What are they like to drive? Would of liking to see more mondeos.

Shocking, I can’t imagine a Mondeo will be in the fleet for sometime unless the CAB lads seize something worth buying. I seen today they seized an estate 520D wouldn’t be surprised if that ends up being bought

I seen that two weeks ago, seems a waste having them for training although it seems to be the trend considering nearly 6 years ago they had the 3litre mondeos doing courses

Black unmarked Honda CRV / Toyota RAV4 on blues along the Quays this morning, only caught the back of it from a distance hence the question of its ID

Yeah, struggled to keep up with the landcruiser on the N4. Through sandymount pearse street then on to the quays

Seen that land cruiser few times, moves when it needs to.

Seen 2 days in a row running through Rathgar at speed. Similar time both days funnily enough.

Training maybe, it has serious pull considering the weight it has to carry. (The equipment that is not the occupants)

Down by the Brazen Head and along the quays? All I saw in the distance was what I took to be a CRV judging by the amount of chrome around the reg plate area..... Have to go to Specsavers !

Yeah i wasn’t so far away from it, we turned at watlin st, they are specialist units. we were just special in our own little bubble 1.8tdci hatchback there was a collision at the turn we were suppose to take earlier than that. It’s why it went down further.

I passed an 07 unmarked red Mondeo saloon in Dublin 8 today. Had the usual lights on the front bumper, but curiously only 1 ariel and an NCT disc in the window, as well as a long out of date tax disc. I thought Garda cars were test exempt?

Patrol cars are exempt from mandatory testing.

They do this to look ordinary, many at this over the years as single tax disc holder stood out s mile.

Running the plate through motortax.ie will usually yield what it is, no find for the rate is generally a legit Garda car. Normally they have full current tax disc as otherwise car will be clamped or towed.

Oh yes, old school they fitted bumper lights to near all 2006 and all 2007

Clear lense, quite big like rectangular size.

That’s right, they looked quite big

That’s right, they looked quite big

That's the typical era Mondeo, focus, Vectra etc....

Not seeing as many these days but they have held up well compared to the 2010 avensis and I30/i40.....

    Dirt them Hyundai

Might it have been an Insurance Disc? All cars should be displaying an insurance exemption disc beside the tax disc.

Also, cars can be NCT'd voluntarily if there are concerns about its roadworthiness. Not sure if they get issued a disc though, but I presume they would....

Garda vehicles are exempt from all the above...

They are issued a tax disc but exempt is printed on them as they are a state vehicle....

I don't really understand your post.

    The state covers any liability.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,647 ✭✭✭BaronVon

Yes, but now they are issuing insurance discs of exemption for the cars. Same way they are exempt from car tax, but they display tax discs, they are now doing it with insurance discs. Probably some sort of optics thing for Joe Public....

No, it was an NCT cert. There was a 3 cert holder in the windscreen.

Noteworthy too, there was an 08 Mk4 Mondeo estate behind it, with heavily tinted front and back windows, that had small LEDs in the grille. The car was a Ghia spec with alloys. My first thoughts were that it was a removal hearse, but maybe not?
