Some of the right wing reactionary snowflakes on this website are virtually tossing off at the thought of someone being “offended” by Mr Tayto, even though not a single person has said that they found this Tweet offensive. Blowing their beans far too early.

    "virtually tossing off"
    "Right-wing"
    "reactionary snowflakes"
    "blowing beans"

is this honestly your response to some people saying that "people would be mad to get offended by a tweet from tayto?

Turning reaction to a tayto tweet into a right vs left row. Jesus wept!

Bit like yourself when I correctly predicted that any football team for this website would be full of nerdy lard arses? Or when I pointed out that it’s pathetic that you’re still dining out on starting a crisp discussion months ago? Stop trying to be the “crisp guy,” Crispguy, nobody cares.

Its geneuinly paying their respects, a small little gesture from an Irish company to an Irish legend.

But no , some people will have you believe that dr evil who runs tayto had a big meeting in his lair when Gay died to see how they could sell more smokey bacon on the back of his death.

    Give over ffs

Terrible mistake from the Tayto company. Should have renamed them Gayto for a week instead.

What the hell is wrong with people?

Gay Byrne is/was a national icon, larger than the person himself was. So for one Irish icon (Tayto) to tribute another is only commendable. You would think every poster personally knew the man, cop on would ye?

Mr tayto is a brand character for a multi million euro crisp company, Gay Byrne was a real person who touched the lives of the entire country in one way or another during his decades as a broadcaster and public figure, they arent the same thing......

I only seen and heard of it in this thread. It does come across as a bit sarcastic.

Ok so, just to be clear, are the morally outraged here outraged at mr tayto hanging his head or just tayto tweeting anything?

If tayto has just tweeted their respects at the death of Gay would that also be clever marketing or is it the image of poor Mr Tayto that has upset ye so much?

I'm sure RTE won't be shy about flogging advertising during the numerous commemorative specials it will air about Gay Byrne. They'll make far more off his death than any Tweet by a crisp manufacturer will generate.

Why does Mr Tayto have a mobile?

    In case Jonnie Onion Rings.

If anyone wants to pay their respects whether a company or not so be it...
Of course it's advertising and sure of course these big companies will do anything to get their name out there.

I don't get why some people are upset by this. I think a very thoughtful and nice tweet by Tayto.

    Snowflakes were upset no doubt

If Gaybo had some link to Tayto, part/previous owner, done promotional work for them, or it was a major sponsor of the Late Late while he was presenter, then yes, it would have been ok for Tayto to do that.
However afaik, they didn't, so all there tweet does is make it more about Tayto, not his death.

So what you're saying is that: all the celebs who are speaking on TV and tweeting their condolences in a very public manner are also only trying to up their profile!? In the manner Tayto removed the tweet and apologised very quickly to the people who were 'apparently' upset,.well I think that in itself shows the tweet was a genuine show of respect and a genuine passing of condolences in the death of Gay Byrne.

It's better a public service broadcast make money from Byrne's death than a private company, yes.

    Down with Private companies.

Did anybody else ever see the resemblence between Mr Tayto and middle age Ronnie Whelan?

It was pointed out to me years ago, and I just can't shake it since. A side by side where they're both smiling and they're uncanny.

So how the crisps are cooked is why there is an obesity crisis? Think it's more do with the amount of them people eat..
Incorrect, but the 'way they are cooked' (as with similar products) realtes specifically to the elevated Acrylamide levels (potential health risk).

However, yes the (nutritional value) would likely add to the obesity crisis due to 34.3% Fat content. Also E621, E635 and 1.5% salt won't be a health bonus.

Guess it could be classed as simple 'junk food'?

Likely in years to come (like smoking, alcohol) advertising restrictions will be imposed on the ever cute charachter that is Mr Tayto, for making folks: fatties.

There is much to be offended by with this.
However last year the Christmas boxes had 20 packets and this year they have 18.
