If Gaybo had some link to Tayto, part/previous owner, done promotional work for them, or it was a major sponsor of the Late Late while he was presenter, then yes, it would have been ok for Tayto to do that.
However afaik, they didn't, so all there tweet does is make it more about Tayto, not his death.

The cynical among us would suggest that it was Tayto trying to get free advertising on the back of a sad event. Some people get up in the morning just itching to be offended.

I saw someone point out how they were trying to emulate the image Disney released of Mickey Mouse comforting Kermit when Jim Henson died back in 1990, that made sense, this did not.

The tayto brand try to position themselves as an icon of the country.
In fairness, they've done a bloody good job!
I can see how they couldn't resist paying respect to another 'icon'.

It probably seemed like a good idea at the time, but it's pretty cynical by a brand to do such a thing.
Would have been better if the CEO of tayto / Largo foods said it .. but then it'd look odd, and you'd question why are they doing it at all.

So what you're saying is that: all the celebs who are speaking on TV and tweeting their condolences in a very public manner are also only trying to up their profile!? In the manner Tayto removed the tweet and apologised very quickly to the people who were 'apparently' upset,.well I think that in itself shows the tweet was a genuine show of respect and a genuine passing of condolences in the death of Gay Byrne.
