Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Square Mile are a top roaster and having 350g is great especially if you are brewing espresso where you always waste some dialling in. I really don't find that expensive at all for quality coffee. Have had some phenomenal beans from them in the past.

+1. Worth mentioning that Proper Order coffee in Smithfield stock Square Mile and get fairly regular deliveries so typically can pick up bags within a week or so of roast date. I stock up with a couple of bags whenever I'm passing.

I've another KG of that Yellowbourbon stuff if anyone is interested. No reply or intermittent at best from some who asked for one.

If price isn't an issue, who is everyone's preferred roaster to order from?

I've enjoyed all the Bailies and 3FE I've gotten, and am very fond of Soma, Three Fools and West Cork in Cork, and have a few nice looking Cloudpicker bags to gets through but if I was going to buy one or two bags from a roaster (Irish or international - open to suggestions!), who would ye recommend?

It might be a once off so spending a little extra per bag might be an option too if needed!

    I like the barn.

    Koppi.

Had some nice stuff from the foundry in Sheffield recently.

Currently working through a roundhill roastery order. Quality.

I'm a big hasbean fan too, any of their "higher tier" stuff is very consistent

I think Badger & Dodo do excellent beans at a good price for the quality. I love the Guatemalan and the Ethiopian is also very good.

Got around to opening my bag of Puncheur from VeloRevolution last weekend, smells strong but gives a nice smooth taste

    https://velorevolution.selz.com/categories/cycling-coffee-bottles

    €6.99 for 250grams.

Haven't opened my bag of Sprinter yet.

Coffee and Cycling the perfect match!

It's my local. I order by text and they roast mine to order ;)

I've never ordered from them online. Give it a go, the offer won't last for long. My 1kg is usually €28, the last one was €16

Great price! Any recommendation from the beans the sell?

Scratch that - you've linked directly to it - I need to learn to slow down reading.

Great deal. Ordered some Colombia Narino, Yirgacheffe and Nina. I thought this might be the same brand as 'The Art of Coffee' shops around Dublin, but they don't seem to be related. Funny that neither party has found issue with the branding, but looking forward to trying the coffee. Thanks for the tip.

Yeah as I've said my usual bean from them is Fusion but last week I called in a picked up some Nina that was on offer at 16 for 1kg. I've never tried it. It was on the shelf and roasted 4 weeks . I think she said they roasted in advance for the ploughing championships and some other promotions, it'll be back to roast to order once they sell.

Ordered Yirgacheffe and Fusion ,both decent beans, roasted to darker profile ( too dark for my liking ),probably great for milky drinks.
I had some feelings there are some robusta beans in Fusion blend , could be wrong though.

I started ordering from https://www.ponaire.ie/ who are based in Tipp' and much better value than paying €15 for 250g anytime I'm passing 3FE.

Their European blend is my go to when I can't find a good price on something else. Very consistent.

would it be advisable to stay away from any type of beans for a domestic Delongi machine?

It could be just coincidence, but we had an automatic Delonghi machine in an office I worked in - on 2 separate occasions, the grinder got clogged twice by oily dark roast beans.

About to run of of beans soon and might give these a try, cant get the free shipping though even when I pick 500g back. Keeps trying to charge me 5 euro postage....

I think free postage is for amounts ordered above 500g (so 1kg and up). It's a very poor way of wording it in fairness.

I tried that, adding a small bag of green tea. Still wanted postage...

I've tried it there again and it works fine. You need to order a minimum of 1kg beans to get free shipping, rather than 500g beans and another product.

Any good deals out there at the moment?

can anyone tell me the name of that coffee that gets good reviews, supposed to be a sweetshop flavour or something like, could be making it up!

Good deals in terms of subscriptions? Have you tried Gustatory? https://www.gustatory.co/pages/speciality-coffee-box-subscriptions

I have been with them for a few months now and am subscribed to what they call Plus 87. Its a package with some proper stellar coffees in, and from those I've received I cannot complain. In terms of a deal, I compared around before I subscribed with them and saw that match up with everyone, if not a bit cheaper. Really no complaints on the price of coffee at all from me, so maybe worth checking them out for both quality and price?

Has anyone else had experience with them? let me know as I would be keen to hear. Cheers

I presume you are going via parcel motel etc?
The blend option looks decent value at 3 bags pr month
    https://www.gustatory.co/pages/blended-espresso-and-filter-speciality-coffee-subscription

But you do have the PM fee on top I guess.
Which subscription option are you on? There is nearly too much choice LOL :-D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,110 ✭✭✭✭cnocbui

Looking at the 3 bags per month option plus Parcel Motel it looks to be roughly €11.31 per bag. My latest order came to €7.65 a bag inc postage. I am rather eagerly awaiting it's arrival.

I subscribe to Gustatory's 3 bag package each time. Yeah, you're right on the postage as they're English based, but I subscribed to their plus 87 as it delivers their best coffees at a discounted rate than RRP anyhow, so you save in that aspect. With their international postage and the discounts, I reckon that it probably evens each other out, but I gain on receiving the awesome coffees each month, so im happy!

You reckon the blended one looks good? Will check it out

Well the blends one works out at about €10 per bag on the 3 bag option including parcel motel, and they do say teh bags range from 250-340g - if you got one 340g one it would be decent value but they may not be that common. Considering you are getting beans from different roasters and can expect to pay a premium for that, its not bad.

Thanks, just signed up to try this. I really need a good subscription. I still miss Pact from when I lived in UK. The coffee wasn't amazing but I never ran out of coffee, and never had too much.

My cheap coffee has arrived from Luxembourg. Haven't tried any yet as I need to finish the last few beans of the current stock. I better hurry and drink some more. ;)

I'd never heard of pearl beans before, so this should be interesting. I imagine India would be one of the few places where labour is cheap enough to make it practical.

I know there was some conversation about Square Mile and people thinking it was a bit too pricey, but I picked up a bag of sweetshop in Vice earlier and it's lovely, 350g bag for 16.50 so around the same price as 3FE if you're buying single 250g bags.

Is this normal? Have never ordered decent coffee before that didn't have an exact date on it

Getting 2 bags monthly of their blended coffees for espresso.
Just received a gift subscription to 3FE so getting 250g a month from them also at the moment. Hopefully won't run out of coffee again too soon!

Everytime I try out different coffees its a pain when you end up with one thats not very nice. Do you guys persevere with a blend you dont like or just throw it out ? Also, any tips on knowing what kinds of coffee you like ? I often find I can like a coffee one day and find it not really nice another day.

It's rare I'd come across a coffee that I bought that I just couldn't drink.

    How are you brewing?

Pretty much any beans can be made taste woeful if brewed "wrong"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,684 ✭✭✭Glebee

I used to get subs from coffeangel, Badger & Dodo, now i just use Lidl. I could never really justify the price difference. Some of the cheaper beans are very nice imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,865 ✭✭✭dball

which beans from Lidl are you getting results from and how do you brew?

They have a range of Bellarom whole beans in a brown 255kg bag at the moment. Currently use there ethopian whole bean. Was not gone on the other regional ones (cant remember what they were). I think it great. I know people tastes vary but i cant fault some of the lidl beans although i got a few poor items as well such as the xxl bag of Bellarom beams. Not great imo. Any time they have their 1kg Italiamo blue bags on i grab a few bags of that. I think its very decent. I use a Delongi magnifica bean to cup machine.
Every now and again i get a 250kg bag of premium beans and although they taste nice, i cant justify the massive price difference.

I use I think de longhi (will double check tomorrow) machine that does all the work. Put in the beans and it grinds and pours out shots. I usually add some
Warm milk and some caramel syrup (I know a real connoisseur doesn’t do this!)
