I’ve seen a lot of things said about the county board here over the last while and I never comment much but what transpired today in Walsh park was despicable. A very severe injury to peter Penkert of mount sion with what could be a career threatening injury descended into a farce. After snapping an arm, he was eventually stretchered off by members of his own team. There was no ambulance on hand or order of Malta which I heard after are only €100 to secure ( I may be wrong on that)
Anyway, after getting stretchered from the field they were advised to put him down on the floor of the toilets where approximately 20 children stood over him to peer obviously out of curiosity. An ambulance was called which had to come from Kilkenny to assist so he was left lying on a stretcher in the toilets which didn’t have proper lights working for over 40 minutes. Word that’s filtered back tonight is saying he’ll be lucky to play again suck is the extent of the damage. How can we ever be seen as forward thinking county when our basic services at county semi final games are in the Stone Age. That amongst many other things.

Why was he put into toilets?

Because there was no ambulance or order of Malta at hand. So was basically in limbo after being carried off and then were advised by Walsh park officials to bring him there. It was literally a circus. An ambulance was called but had to come from Kilkenny to get him.

You can hardly blame the gaa for the ambulance service...?

Unlikely, They haven’t pissed it before and haven’t won anything yet. Realistically what you going to have if they went up, a senior game Ballygunner A vs Ballygunner B?

As it turns out FMW and Ballyduff couldn’t be separated in the relegation final yesterday so it might all work out, no one up and no one down this year

Have to agree 100% with this sentiment - totally unacceptable that there was not an ambulance or first-aid of any description on duty in Walsh Park, probably none in Fraher Field either. These were county Semi Finals where there was expected to be large attendances and it should just be a matter of protocol to have the Order of Malta in attendance, irrelevant of the cost, which I understand is only a couple of hundred euro at most. €15 a head in and we cannot afford to spend €400!!!

The organisational skillset of our county board reached a new low in my eyes yesterday, they hadn't even a blanket to cover the lad, or stewards to stop the kids crowing around him - don't be surprised if photos and videos start appearing on facebook. As for the assured actions of our county secretary during all this, talk about a rabbit caught in the headlights, player welfare my a...e, I have seen better preparations at children's blitzs.

How do other counties handle a sitaution like this?

How do other counties handle a sitaution like this?

As Tipperary have an A and B senior championship with 16 teams in each, Thurles Sars 2nd team that won the intermediate went into the B championship but both Thurles Sarsfield teams complete in the mid senior hurling championship and could have played each other. The 2nd team would have to win the B championship to compete for the Dan Breen.

In Galway you can't have two teams from the same club competing in the same grade. The team being promoted is replaced with the next eligible team. I think this would be the case across most counties.

Christ that’s absolutely disgraceful. I’m lost for words but not surprised by those clowns running the show. There was no services available in the Fraher Field either yesterday only the first aid officials from the 4 competing clubs. To be honest they shouldn’t be left away with this as health and safety is and should be a basic requirement for all players. As a matter of interest are there defibrillators in both grounds?

If hosting an event of that scale you should have basic services in place or on standby. That includes Gardai and emergency services. Not only the players, but if something happened to an attendee.

Best wishes to the young lad.
A poor reflection on our county board that this was allowed happen during a senior hurling county semi final.

Time for some serious soul searching to take place within the administration of the county. That story on the Mt Sion player is horrendous. Absolute shambles of a set up...until our own house is in order we are going absolutely nowhere. Christy Ring himself could come back and manage the team but if this is the laissez faire attitude in the county then we are screwed.

Did the same not happen in the Mount Sion V Roanmore group game in Walsh Park. I think it was Even Curran that received a nasty injury, and not even a stretcher in place, he had to be carried off the pitch and then left wait for an ambulance.

How the order of malta/civil defence or Irish Red Cross are not present at these games is beyond me.

Voluntary organisations with the require skills. Thankfully often then not they are not needed which is great.

€15 yesterday, good crowd at it and not any first aid to been seen other than those involved with both sides.

I'm sure providing any service will come with a cost but surely player welfare must be catered for.

feel sorry for Peter Penkert. He was badly let then down by those meant to protect his interests.

I hope mount sion crucify the county secretary.

Penny wise pound foolish and all that....

An incident like this has been a long long time coming, thankfully it was not something as serious as a neck / heart issue. The lad will live thanks be to god and thats not being flippant.

Order of Malta, Barrick Street band all these basic basic things have been neglected over the years. Infact i remember dermot keyes coming down singing the anthem one year.

Maybe now people are starting to realise how hopelessly out of depth some people are in the county exec?

You’re completely correct, the exact same thing happened in the Mount Sion/Roanmore game earlier this season. Except it was Edward Cullen and not Evan Curran who received the injury.

As expected, Liam Cahill to be proposed as #Waterford's next senior hurling manager at board meeting this evening. Michael Bevans to be named as coach with possibility of Stephen Molumphy coming on board as a selector. Two-year term with option for a third. #GAA

Surely someone with first aid training at the match?
And just tell the crowd to fcuk off away

Should there be an ambulance present at every game at all levels then do ye reckon? How many ambulances/paramedics would be available at any one time in Waterford?

Seems like a big ask to me. That there are no trained personnel on hand to assist however and worst of all that he would be brought to a toilet instead of a medical room (is there nothing of the sort in Walsh Park?) is scandalous. Hard to assess the damage I would say in the immediate aftermath so hopefully the injury is not as bad as feared and he gets back playing again.

Was a privilege to see Austin Gleesons first half performance yesterday, he was unbelievable.

Surely we should be getting our 'week off' in the middle of the Munster Championship for next summer and not start a week later or week earlier than the rest of the teams

I think I read when this system was being introduced that the Munster Council's intention is to run the same set of fixtures every year, only with the first round fixtures being moved to the fifth round the following year (and obviously with home advantage reversed).
This means our schedule for 2020 should be:
    Round 1 - Tipp (h)
    Round 2 - Limerick (a)
    Round 3 - Cork (h)
    Round 4 - bye
    Round 5 - Clare (a)
There will be two-week gap between Rounds 2 and 3 if this year is anything to go by. A quirk of this system (if they stick with it) is that it means we'll start with a home game in Round 1 every year from 2019 to 2022.

Be interesting to see who will referee the final. Thought both referees were good yesterday but will any of them get the final if they got the semi final?

Not sure about this. What did Dungarvan get the penalty for?
