So I plan on doing this today. All my games are Cloud Save compatible and I've backed them up, so I deleted the user on the Switch linked to my account. I guess that's all I've to do before trading it in?

Also, I've a few scratches on mine, not on the screen itself, just the black bezel to the side, does it make a difference? They're only really noticeable in direct light.

Side note - I really don't get how gamestop are making any money off this!

Gamestop make very little profit from selling new consoles as the majority goes to Nintendo, but on second hand consoles they make close enough to 100% profit. Have a look at their site they are selling 2nd hand consoles for €319...

Doesn't mean many are buying though

    Makes sense.

Lord knows why anyone would be second hand for a tenner less than a new one, though, but whatever, I'll happily take my new Switch (I hope!) and run. :pac:

I forgot to give them the controller thingy that the mini controllers go into from the side of the Switch. Noticed there was dusting that my other controllers are on it.

Basically, if they make €20 per console normally and If they get €30 from the trade in person, and €20 profit from the second hand sale. They have made €50 not €20.

Plus it just gets people in the door and maybe some pick up some other bit too.

The usual GS bull****, worst for consoles anyways where Argos and Smyths is there.

Say what you want about GameStop but if you get the right one with the right staff, it can be brilliant. I went for the Switch switcheroo in GameStop Wilton earlier and Mike there is a class act. Having read this thread, I had backed up my saves, deregistered myself and the kids, formatted the console and set up a test account. I even had the original box so everything was nice and easy for him to check. He spent about 5 minutes checking it out and was happy with it. He was telling me that stocks were low, they had no grey and only got a shipment of Red/Blue that morning. That's the one I wanted anyway.
We were chatting about Link's Awakening, I hadn't preordered it but he mentioned that he had ordered an extra collector's edition just in case someone turned up really wanting one. I missed out on getting this a few months ago and really wanted it so to say I was excited was an understatement! So I have that preordered now and I'm happy out.
So, while I don't agree with Gamestop's pricing in general, for customer service and a bit of gamer to gamer banter, Gamestop Wilton is a great spot.

Swapped today, sound lads in there. Hopefully the store keeps going. Even though I was baffled by the prices they were charging i did get the new console, wolfenstein young blood for €12.

New unit feels more solid but that might just be just from lack of use. The screen is pinkish but all the colours look nicer.

But the wi-fi seems worse if anything.

Really? Mine didn't look pinkish in store when he had me signing into the ID. Although I haven't used mine yet so maybe in game it does?

I'm very happy with the screen, I might be wrong but it appears a lot brighter and more vivid in comparison to the old one.

So what's the exact procedure to get stuff off the switch before you trade? I'm happy that all my stuff is cloud save.

Same as this now, been playing it in handheld a bit over the last few days and I think it's a big improvement. A lot brighter and haven't seen any pink tinge in-game. I have the black theme on mine so haven't checked to see what if any, tinge is on the white on the eshop screen and honestly couldn't care less how that looks as long as the games look good on it.

Trying to trade in mine today let's see while they take it.

Tradding in yashis crafted world with it any idea wbag I should get for it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,383 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

It's only noticeable on pure white screens at under 70% brightness. And it's a tiny pink tinge. It's a warm screen so pink, the last one was cold so was blue. Very hard to see at full brightness.

In game the warm looks way better for vibrant colours.

You can do a transfer in shop but it takes ages. Best off just back up saves, de-register from the store and factory reset it.

Lots of downloading again that takes a while but leave it docked overnight and make sure no game is running and it will be done.

If you have a SD card you need to format it in the new one anyway.

    Traded mine in there.

Had a crack around the heat vent, right joy con does not hock properly I had no clue it done that,

So they took the controller from the new switch and I have the one that does not hock right with my new switch.

Traded in yashis crafted world as well.

So my new switch and I also got sonic racing as well as 50% off for 6 euros how bad

New console acquired. Had linked my account on both, ao transferring user data wasn't working. Just transferred save data for Splatoon.

At this rate, hope they don't release BotW too soon, if I'm getting a new console every time a new Zelda releases. Would be an expensive handling

Is there any way to check how much credit is on your gamestop card? I got a silver/grey card for the trade in + €2 but already had an Orange one with two traded games + boost. I am going over today, but was wondering if I could check it online before I went over.

Traded in today, and also got 25% of pre-owned MarioKart 8. Awesome deal.
Apparently valid on Switch Lite pre-orders too...you'd end up with €70 credit.

Traded in mine today. Apparently the last one available in Limerick for now. None in William St, only reserved ones left in Parkway and I got the last one in the crescent. Great deal, very helpful staff in William St and the Crescent.

My Gamestop said they had just got more stock in

Got mine in Blanchardstown, and it was the last one they had in stock. Probably going to start getting tricky to avail of the deal before it ends at the end of the month, glad I got around to it this week.

Just got mine in Gamestop Henry St. Took them about an hour to test it. Mine was in perfect condition so the exchange was painless.
Thanks to everyone in here for the help in making the switch!

I traded mine yesterday in Dundrum. It took them about 15 mins to do the test and the staff were great. Very smooth experience and a great deal overall. I do not get to use my switch as much as I would like due to work, family etc but this upgrade is a no brainer.

Got mine today in Cork, fantastic deal. Had my console set up with a test account for them, they did 3 mins of testing flicking through the menus and clipping the joy cons on / off etc.

Also traded in BOTW as I was only 1 divine beast down after 6 months of intermittent play too hard a game for the limited time I have to game these days.

Got astral chain to go with excited to try it seems a new concept.

All in €70 and a very happy customer.

I traded in my switch last week, but due to work and other things I never got around to setting it up.
I am after using my credit to buy Super Mario Odyssey instead of LOZ Links Awakening, so was looking forward to playing it.
I am hitting a stumbling block setting it up though.

    Screens:
    1. Select how you would like to add user (create new/import a user)
    2. Do you still have the console that you'd like to import a user from? (No/Yes)
    3. Was your nintendo account linked to a user on the original console? (No/Yes)
    4. Please link to the same nintendo account that you were using on the original console. (Link to a Nintendo Account/Later/View Details)
    5. A system update is required. A system update cannot be performed during the initial setup of the console. To perform a system update later select * (system settings) => System on the HOME Menu.

Then it brings me back to create a new user for the console or import a user.
Any idea how I can get my old account on?
If I create a new account, can I update, and then delete it and make my original account the main user?

Just make a user, then do the update. Then once in the main menu after updating, click the profile picture and there is a " link to account" option. That will get the old account.
