Good question. This is one of the greatest problems with ecstasy use in Ireland. Testing kits should be compulsory in clubs and at concerts and gigs. It would definitely benefit users and make it safer for everyone.

Between 2004 and 2015, 117 people died from ecstasy tablets in Ireland.

Another 89 people during that time died from what are known as new psychoactive substances, or legal highs, such as party pills and synthetic cocaine.

So over 200 families needlessly impacted. Scary numbers.

But ( and before I read on past your post!) they are exempt. It will never ever happen to them! eejits

There have been two high profile cases in the news this year. One death one near death. Both strong teenagers trying drugs for the very first time after being talked to as drug users are talking here. Peer pressure

All deaths can be avoided if we regulate, test and educate.

Any examples of this? I personally have never heard of a story like this, only from what we were told in school by teachers.

Could happen if someone has some other medical condition but that would be an anamoloy.
    o

The teenager who died recently. cannot copy paste .. Look up Jack Downey.

No underlying condition, and there have been others. I found pages on google .

These drugs can and do kill; why take a risk for what? a high?

This is why testing facilities need to be at all gigs and festivals now and we need start educating young people. Nobody taught me anything about drugs I had to learn it all on my own. We can never stop the kids from taking drugs so we have to make it safer. It's only going to get worse unless a common sense approach is adopted.

Education comes in here and people that choose to take party drugs need to be aware of overdosing and what levels are considered an overdose

You are talking abut illegal drugs... Illegal and damaging, not jelly tots, and not necessary medication

all drugs have side effects. always unpredictable often dangerous

Why not just stop them? Be adult and responsible.

    But addicts and drug users?

Yes. Because the war against drugs and just say no campaigns have not worked so far. You can bury your head in the sand and leave things exactly as they are or do something different, which is it going to be?

Both the cases I listed were one single tablet. By teenagers who had never taken any before. In bothe cases no one else was badly affected by the same batch. Russian roulette.

Very lazy argument in fairness. A really awful scenario when someone accidentally dies when using drugs, very sad.

I can never bring myself to blame the drug though. The drug has no conscious you see. I blame society for alienating users and not providing them with the correct information to enable them to be better advised before taking them.

It is worse to turn your back on a problem rather than confronting it and addressing it. It is negligence that causes the deaths, not the drug itself.

I have a heard a contrasting different story in both cases. Have some more respect for both victims, they deserve better than being used to validate your argument. It is distasteful.

That's good to see. I'm a few years older than most college students now but it worries me how much mdma use in particular has shot up in recent years amoung 17 - 23 year olds. It's much more commonplace on normal nights out now, more than when I was that age. It can lead to serious mental health issues if you use it too often.

Oh DEAR! wondered when this tack would emerge!

No head in sand here; the only way forward is SAY NO to drugs. If you tried it? All of you? No one is able to stop you it seems because you are so attached to illegal drugs? As long as you demand drugs they will be imported and sold and will damage and kill. I care deeply about young folk and families. Lacerates seeing the deaths and damage. from breaking the law.

Closing on this here. Please, stop drugtaking. Set an example to young folk .

This, is very true. Over using on a regular basis can lead to short term negative mental issues.

This needs to be conveyed to anyone considering using it. Especially younger users who have no experience of negative side effects.

People are never going to stop taking drugs. It is part of who we are as humans. We've been doing for as long as we've existed. Children as young as toddlers enjoy the altered state of spinning around and getting dizzy. Laughable that you are saying you aren't putting your head in the sand. We need to deal with the situation we have in front of us. Prohibition doesn't work.

the website I referenced earlier Spun Out, which you dismissed out of hand as propaganda, covers that very angle quite well.
