Natural fitness, starts with dedicating every bit of your spare time in the gym, on the road, on the training ground. It also involves personal sacrifices to not eat/not drink like the rest of your friends. Very easy to ignore when you are in your twenties. Doing all that, having natural skill and an ability to perform as a unit in a team is not someone everyone can do.

You don't need a dedicated fitness coach to tell you this. They are not a new phenomenon.

I don’t think you realize what natural means. Anyway, best of luck tomorrow, enjoy the day.

You are acting as though the Dublin county board got funding that would be equally available to all counties. That's mot the case.
Most of the larger counties could

I do understand. These threads wouldn't exist is people understood the extreme sacrifices that even naturally skillful players have to make, what development funds were for, and how they have nothing to do with the current panel.

Aye, best of luck tommorrow. I expect the game to be tight and edgy. The expected deluge of rain will slow the game down considerably.

In fairness, this is taken as read for every inter county footballer... I dont think you can really claim that this is what is setting them apart...

Well enlighten us so. What is the cause of it? Steroids? Are they blending up cash and drinking it in a smoothie? Is it genetic engineering?

This Dublin team are like Man City, just a group of talented, hardworking players that got to where they are through sheer grit and determination. At the end of the day it’s all just a couple of lads chasing a bit of leather around a football pitch and whichever team has the most heart wins. Coaches, statisticians, nutrition etc. has nothing got to do with it. Where were the people 10 years ago complaining about Man City’s money when they couldn’t win a title?

If man city weren't given the money they'd still not have a title ...

That's not a great analogy, Man City bought their players and pay them huge sums of money to be professionals.
The Dublin players are home grown dedicated amateurs.

These third world countries that have never won an Olympic medal just need a bit more determination and grit. Then they could rival the US in the medals table.

Exactly. Dublin has a very talented squad of players who don't travel to training the distances others do and that is a benefit.
The money helps but the talent and commitment is unquestionable

Any sensible person should be able to acknowledge both. However, a lot of Dubs want to stick their head in the sand and a lot of others insist the Dublin players aren't any good, which is insane.

which is largely dictated by a larger population.

any walk of life, the bigger the pool the higher the chance of getting a rockstar.

good/bad i dont know, remains to be seen

The population argument can be a bit misleading. It's only an advantage if enough people are actually playing the sport. However, if participation in Dublin is up, then it is an advantage.

not trying to mislead. there's prob not the data available to give a proper answer, but at its most fundamental, the larger the pool the greater the chance of great talent

Oh I wasn't suggesting you were. I agree with you. I am juat saying that because population doesn't always help.

Dublin’s population is a bit misleading as there are a huge amount of people living here with no affinity for the city, county, country or sports here. Lots are young workers staying for a few years who add little to nothing from a sporting POV. Now I wouldn’t be claiming that in s poor mouth kind of way as obviously we do have a larger population that consider themselves Dubs than all the other counties and those counties often have a completely different problem with their young leaving but the numbers aren’t quite what they seem.

Yeah, if you look at the population alone, Antrim should dominate Ulster. But of course, a lot of them are unionists.

that's interesting, I wonder is that ever taken into account when distributing funds?

The only people who’ve lost interest had **** all interest in the first place. Haven’t been to a final since 15 & I’m just as excited if not more for tomorrow than 2011!

And this 'interest' is also 'subjective'. I live down here in the west and if Galway were in a hurling or football final the whole town would be covered in Galway flags & buntings. If Mayo were contesting half the town would be covered in Green & Red.

When Tipp were playing KK two weeks ago very little interest was shown and in fact one of the pubs was showing a Sky soccer match. If Donegal, Mayo or Tyrone were playing Kerry tomorrow I'd be watching the Gunners and Spurs myself and switching over for scores intermittently.

The match will be a sell out, there is plenty of hype in Dublin and Kerry and the RTE audience figures will probably be released next week.

A Dublin win please and feck the begrudgers.

Money is the root cause of it.

    Same with Cork in Munster

Would a full time strength and conditioning coach help? As a lot of counties don’t have one.

Lead a horse to water and all that, keep it up, each post gets sweeter😂

Money is the root cause of it.

So the millions spent on the prep of the Mayo squad, often outspending everyone else has been a waste?????

And a lot of people living in Dublin are Culchies who head home every weekend as well as foreign nationals who have zero affiliation to the GAA, my son has 4 teachers from Cork who would be anti Dublin to say the least, so no benefit to Dublin GAA.

Never outspent dublin on a per-game basis, as you already know, as this has been discussed several times already on here. That doesnt take into account the 17 million extra either. Not that mayo has anything to do with the point anyway, but its a handy diversion for you I suppose

But they have. You keep the diversion going, it suits your agenda

A lot of the money Mayo spent was on trasnport related costs. That's sonething Dublin rarely have to worry about.
