    2006 "Jumbo Breakfast Roll" by Pat Shortt playing with clips of multiple cranes on the Dublin skyline and builders all working away, then cuts to Bertie saying the boom is getting boomier.

    After that it's all recession sh1t for a few years.

    I'll definitely watch it.

    The 10's probably won't be made for another few years, it'll take a lot of trawling through archives and expensive to make.

    It's sort of too early to really frame the events of the 2010s in the fuller context of history. We will only be able to begin to do that in the mid 2020s...

    But...for me the most notable events of the decade were -

    Aftermath of the death of the Celtic Tiger, rescue of the Irish banking system, moribund property market, negative equity and mortgage arrears, ghost estates, NAMA, rising unemployment.

    The near completion of our inter-city motorway system - transforming Ireland from a country with atrocious road infrastructure to one with Western European standard roads. A generation after the rest of the West, but better late than never.

    Conclusion of the social revolution that began in the 1990s with the same-sex and abortion referenda. An openly gay Taoiseach. All utterly unthinkable just 15 years earlier.

    Rubbish pop music.

    Right wing backlash against the liberalism of the 1990s. Brexit and the election of Trump. Immigration debate. Continuing Islamist terrorism against the West.

    The passing of the Voyager spacecraft, launched in 1977 to explore the outer planets, into interstellar space. The Voyagers will still be travelling through the galaxy long after our Sun has died and the Earth is gone.

    TV3 or whatever the feck there called nowadays done there version of the 10s already. It was good but didnt have that reeling in the years feeling

    Looking forward to RTEs version of the 10s

    Sporting wise

    Soccer- we have the Euros 2012/2016 and our wins vs Germany and Wales (2017 WC qualifer) and hopefully we have qualifying for the 2020 euros in the 2019 offering. The rise of LOI teams in Europe (Rovers and Dundalk qualifying for the Europa League group stages). That Brady goal vs Italy will never grow old

    Rugby- a few good moments and hopefully more to come. The 2x wins over the All Blacks, 2x 6 nations titles and the grand slam. Leinster European wins

    GAA- dominance of Dublin footballers with Cork, Donegal and Kerry and Kilkenny/Tipp with the odd other team winning (Clare, Galway, Limerick). In the 2019 version the curse is ended Mayo win sam lol

    Lots of society milestones and state visits

    Cant wait for it. Surely every episode will be repeated

    Glad to know I'm not the only one looking forward to this programme coming out, it's the one program RTE do really well.

    I always watch the repeats but I enjoy the 80, 70's and 60's ones the most for some reason

    I even have them all on a hard drive, they can be got on Pirate Proxy, I put them on in the background on a usb and into the tv often when I'm on the computer, it's nice in the background.

    They should re-edit the '00s series with hindsight before doing a '10s one - some content would be covered rather differently now, e.g. any coverage of the '00s trial and then the death of Michael Jackson. Everything economic crash related also.

    What do you mean re Michael Jackson?
    The facts haven't changed since then, he was found Not Guilty in 2005 and his death in 2009 caused a huge global reaction and was one of the biggest news stories of the decade. To cut those events out or reframe them in light of allegation made in the 'Leaving Neverland' mockumentary would be totally unjustified.
    Should they also have to re-edit the 1970, 1972, 1979, 1983 and 1991 editions which features Jackson's music?

    One of the most remarkable weeks in politics in the 2010s is now rarely spoken about, but it was a couple of days that were genuinely GUBU.

    In just a few days in January of 2011, it was revealed by a Sinn Fein TD that Brian Cowen had had a series of personal contacts with Sean Fitzpatrick, former CEO and then-Chairman of Anglo Irish Bank. The Foreign Affairs MInister (Michael Martin) publicly turns against him, the party is divided. Five more senior ministers resign and the Green Party pulls out of Government. The Taoiseach struggles to fill every cabinet vacancy, since he doesn't have the Dail numbers to put new Ministers in Government. Only 7 remain, the absolute constitutional minimum. This leads to a farcical situation where MInisters have multiple portfolios, e,g, Eamon O'Cuiv is the Minister for Defence, the Minister for Social Welfare, and Minister for the Environment all at once.

    Pat Carey is Minister for Communications, Energy, Natural Resources, Community, Equality, and Gaeltacht Affairs. Mary Coughlan is suddenly MInister for Health and MInister for Education.

    Some of the resignations weren't even principled. Harney, Smyth, Dermot Ahern resigned because if they waited any longer, they'd stand to lose large a proportion of their MInisterial Pensions under the incoming Finance Bill.

    This week in Irish politics is now largely forgotten. The turmoil and chaos is hard to believe, looking back. We were a rudderless ship.

    I'd agree.

    It was an illustration in how things can go pear shaped in a way you wouldnt have thought possible.

    One other point relating to the above - there were a lot of Fianna Fail lads appointed to Ministerial roles for a two or three week period only, as things were falling apart.

    I'd love to see how that impacted on their pension rights.

    That period of late 2010/early 2011 will go down as the lowest in our history as a Republic;

    The political chaos, bare-faced lies told to the public re The Bailout. ministers resigning to protect their huge pensions when IMF/ECB dictated austerity was being imposed on the country, Cowen's attempt at 'Jobs for the Boys', FF first backing Cowen then a few days later trying to get rid of him.

    Utterly shameful.

    It didn't affect them, since they were already in Cabinet, and you only get one Ministerial pension, regardless of how many portfolios you have. Even the Taoiseach doesn't get a salary increase/ additional pension for taking on a portfolio.

    But there was a pension scandal, that Harney & co. orchestrated their resignations -- quite openly -- to avoid the pension reduction that was about to be activated in legislation. I never believed that Ahern and Noel Smith or Batt O'Keefe were particularly principled politicians, but I have no time for anyone who tries to say Mary Harney was a Minister with Integrity, after she pulled that shenanigan.

    • The video of the Dad trying to do a news interview when he's interrupted by his swaggering daughter and then a baby.

    • The Harlem Shake, Twerking, etc

    I wouldn't be so sure about these making the cut.

    RITY is predominantly focused on significant Irish events with a nod to exceptional international stories.
    All of the above were interesting for a couple of seconds (in the Andy Warhol sense) but none of them in particular were lead stories on main evening news bulletins or have an Irish focus.

    Maybe some viral videos such as the 'Bat in the Kitchen' in Kerry might get a clip included.

    In the pop culture sense, Brian Dowling winning Big Brother, Jedward appearing in Big Brother and Maura in Love Island will probably feature. Garth Brooks will definitely be in for the gigs he didn't play.

    Ireland Major Golf Champions will all feature in their respective years as will Ireland beating England in Cricket World Cup and playing first Test Cricket Match.
