No more discussion of illegal methods. Next time the thread gets closed. SteM can also take a 48 hour ban.

Where did I claim to know much about it High Horse Brigade? As I said above, I just don't see the value in bothering. I also like to rewind, pause, fast forward half-time, record, etc.
My point above was that some things are worth spending money on. Enjoy your ban! :D

Bans being handed out quicker than Sky can block dodgy streaming :pac:

Honestly though I'd be happy with Freeview and the option to just have the sports channels at a decent price, think it was now tv option that was 30 a month, if it was half that I'd pay.....yes I am a cheapskate :D

There won’t be any more after the next, the thread will be closed instead.

PhilOssphy, take a warning - high horse has been banned and he’s not here to respond, the gloating isn’t necessary

Actually, for those who give out ( with some justification), about having to take out a Sky sub to get access to the Sports channels, the Now TV idea isn't a bad one. 720p on any tv up to 42inch looks very good in my opinion and add to that, a bit of haggling will get that €39 reduced quite a bit. And apparently there are efforts being made to get the 720p up to 1080. No dish/cabling required, just a small stick in the back of the tv, I cant see why all the lovers of the "other " methods of getting the sports channels, don't see Now TV as a reasonably priced legal alternative. I await being torn to shreds now for making the suggestion !!!

She did and she didn't, read the last paragraph, the Premier League still say she's liable to prosecution, my understanding is that if the picture on the screen shows the Premier League logo, the Lions head, it is a breach of copyright. However , that's for a pub, I'm guessing that a private legal foreign subscription for domestic use is legal under EU ruling. But would Canal Plus ,or Bein Sports or whoever sell a subscription outside the country they have a licence for ?

Sky Sports just now ( legal Sky sub !!), see the Lions Head top left and bottom right, it's that logo that gives the Premier League copyright and protection against the EU law about allowing foreign subscription boxes in the UK.

You've got a lot to learn. You can have all the matched in perfect 1080pHD, even all saturday 3PM kickoffs with English commentary with no ads or chat for as little as 40-50 quid a year

    U sure can 😉

While I presume that’s the Premier League Asia Trophy, those are the graphics that go out on the “world feed” made available to broadcasters outside of the UK. They’re not normally seen in the UK itself but the Asia Trophy is always an odd exemption. (Nonetheless Sky now has a PL-co-branded channel and uses the PL logo prominently during coverage).

Yes, it was the Premier League Asia Trophy, I did think it was unusual to have two Lions Head's on the screen.

It's a cat n mouse game yet again that's become interesting because ISP's are being forced to block these servers/services at the core for certain countries.

Will they be able to?, I seriously doubt it. Guys I know who went that route in the UK had issues initially last season but those issues were "ironed out" somehow eventually.

Customers paying legitimately need to know that others are having serious difficulty going the other route, maybe that's all the providers are doing here.

    We shall see I suppose.

Hi Galtee, I'm actually watching it on a new 65 inch 4k TV, 720 is good and it's alot better than standard digital.

€39 is about the highest I can afford, so I will be tempted to keep it.

Will be great if it's 1080 alright, but at 720p the picture is steady and no buffering.

Also I find the now tv equipment is good picture quality, in the past I have found difference between 1080 on different set top boxes, I have both the now tv box and stick and both are good.

That's good to know, that it looks good on the bigger screens, hopefully 1080 isn't far away also.

First I’ve read the posts and I really don’t want to get the thread closed but it is difficult to have this conversation without at least discussing at some level the fact there is IPTV available and the reasons people use it.

Time will tell how successful this is but the fact they are claiming to have blocked torrent sites and almost illuminated it makes me wonder since it’s extremely easy to access and download torrents, no more difficult that it ever was really.

As for streams and IPTV (not the same but this point has already been highlighted), the simple fact is sky etc are just too expensive compared to the alternatives and on top of that no matter how much you are willing to pay you cannot get the service you can through IPTV. If I was willing to pay 1000 euro a month I couldn’t legally get the channel line up I have for example. Liverpool is my team but I watch a lot of other premier league games also and I basically have my choice of game in every round of games and get all Liverpool’s games.

I also watch other sports such as golf so I wouldn’t personally want to be going down the road of individual sports subs as even if one was priced ok they would add up. Though I would pay for a legal sub showing all Liverpool’s games.

I have completely stopped downloading music thanks to Spotify, for 15 quid a month we have 5 people using it. It’s excellent value and until something for 10 or 15 euro a month showing all sports, all matches etc becomes available then people will continue to look for illegal options to meet their needs and budget. I’d would be delighted to pay a reasonably priced legal sub if it provided the service I want and was priced very reasonably but I can’t see it happening anytime soon.

The worst thing is we shouldn’t be having any issue with this as we are not the UK, we in Ireland should be having a service like the US where premier league is shown on a basic pack on satellite and every game is shown. Similar in other parts of Europe and Asia where you can get all the games for cheap or even free.

    Hi Nox,

Yes you make some tempting points, however weather we like it or not that's the price for sports rights.

But many people like myself don't like handing our hard earned cash over to some criminal organisation selling illegal iptv services.

Nor would I hand over my money to someone knocking on my door selling a stolen Liverpool football Jersey at half price for example.
I would only purchase that Jersey from a legitimate supplier.

Secondly I would not trust a criminal knocking on my door, as they may Rob my property, nor would I trust a criminal organisation selling illegal iptv with my financial details.

So I suppose I will just pay for what I can afford legally, or just do with out.

The Premier League/Sky dont want ye subscribing to foreign providers such as Dazn or Nbc.

Whenever I see a Premier League match on Nbcsn they display a message that the broadcast is only for America and not elsewhere.

I would not trust most organisations with my financial details, this is why we have more secure methods of payment than handing such details over.

But I do understand the point about not supporting criminal organisations.

No doesn't matter if it's in Timbuktu if it's proven to be displaying EPL the effected domain is passed on to the Irish isps to block.

'They' in this case are the media companies, and they spend considerable effort in identifying the IP addresses of the illegal servers.
Apparently they do so quite well.

The results of their searches will be passed to the ISPs.

This is how I understand this to work.

Settopbox banned for two days for pretty much doing the exact same thing he was warned for earlier

Just to say about the costs thing, I remember when Sky Sports cost £2.99 per month (1992). But Sky (with good reason) regards the Premier League as absolutely essential to its business model, and has been prepared to pay above the odds to retain it. This has resulted in a massive bubble in costs as successive companies (Setanta, ESPN, BT, and most recently Prime Video) compete against Sky for the rights to packages. And the broadcasters including Sky have had to recoup this money somehow.

I mentioned VPN for which I correctly was warned for.
I then mentioned buy a legitimate foreign Sub and I got banned.
    Why was this for,

Are we not allowed purchase foreign subscriptions from other providers ?

The whole thing is a bit like doping in sports. The anti dopers pursue the dopers by employing highly paid chemists who are pretty smart, just not as smart as the ones employed by the dopers.

In other words as long as there's enough reason to seek alternatives this sort of thing will continue.

Settopbox there is no discussion of moderation in thread. you can PM me if you like but I would suggest that as your ban has been served at this point that we all move on.

So Sky's Sports package with BT works out as €40p/m for SS and €20 p/m for BT. Introductory 6 month offer of €20 p/m for SS and €10 for BT. For €30 it's decent value and I will take this. €60 a month is a bit steep.

As other have said if they could offer every PL game at a decent price this would dramatically reduce IPTV users, surely sale would be up to the too. Don't understand why the PL don't offer a full access package for Ireland. Will still keep the IPTV for games not on either channel.

    I'm of the same opinion.

I'm not willing to sign up to an IPTV service that may not be there in an hour and that God only knows what they could do with your personal or payment data.

And EPL games will never be "reasonably priced" in the UK or Ireland.
They are too big a business, they are very much a premium product.

I don't know but I'm not paying money for something that may be a blank screen tomorrow with zero come back.

I think its a disgrace that Virgin are not offering Bt and Premier Sports to their customers.

Some will have no alternative but to go down the illegal route in order to watch matches they cant watch on cable.

In most cases the annual sub is less than a single months legit payment for access to everything worldwide, with all 3 o'clock Saturday games, in full hd too. It's whack a mole, sites go down all the time and it has no effect.

I'm not promoting piracy but it needs to be said how it is in most cases a much easier option than legit sources. If they want to counteract piracy they need to look at what Netflix and Spotify have done and make it easy and affordable.
