Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Competition Discussion

As the competition thread is just for posting links, starting a thread for related discussions/questions.

As per the post that opened the original thread, it is for posting competition links. Recently, there's been more chats than links making it difficult to check if a competition has been shared already. This results in duplicate competitions being posted and way too many email notifications.

The likes of Gormal and others very kindly put in a lot of time and effort collecting, checking and sharing competitions. We don't want to make it harder.

Most seem to be happy with posts saying thanks to OP if you win. Nothing stopping you adding a link to a competition with it though :) Afterall, it doesn't work unless ppl contribute.

It'd be great if we could keep questions on delivery of prizes/t&cs/answers and chats here. Only share links and wins on the original post.

    Hope this works for everyone!

I love winning stuff so always up for a chat about what's been working and what's not.

Ah very good. Anything that's been working for you?

I only ever win small things, either on local radio, twitter or Instagram. I gave up on Facebook competitions years ago. Wins a win though and it's still lovely when a prize arrives. Magazine competitions where you have to email in seem to be easy enough to win as well. The dream is to win a holiday :D

I think Twitter is one of the best social platforms to try win competitions. You can search for specific things you want to win

Mind me asking how you search? I switch between ppl you follow and local filters, with general search terms like "rt win" "giveaway" etc. I'm not living in Dublin so probably missing most of the Irish competitions.

Theres definitely more results in the people near me when in Dublin alright. I also type in specific terms like win kaleidoscope, win rds and click latest and all/not restricted. It's good for winning tickets e.g. bloom, taste etc. I'm also sneaky and if you come across someone who does a lot of comping on twitter and I search their twitter handle, making sure not to like or rt their tweets as that's really annoying.

Does your Twitter need to be on public to win on the competitions?

I won on the New York bagel competition. First win in about a year of entering everything. Everything except Facebook and instagram.

  • Registered Users Posts: 99 ✭✭COD4132

Instagram seems to be where i'm getting wins from havent won much but got a BBQ from Insta.

Must revisit Twitter as seems to be a lot of success.

Almost every competition will ask for a retweet so needs to be public alright.

Yes. The cost of entering is free marketing for the brand on Twitter.

Use general terms and switch up your search settings. I use people you follow anywhere and anyone but near you. Anyone near you doesn't work great outside of Dublin e.g. Rt win, retweet win, giveaway, giving away, competition, win tickets

Use specific terms and search for all and click latest. I sometimes have to click between top posts and latest as often no results comes up at first e.g. win rds, win aviva, win croke park, dublin premiere, ireland tickets, win one4all, win bloom, win taste, etc

I find twitter is best for winning tickets mainly. Generally there aren't many comps on twitter. I think they're migrating to Instagram but I find Twitter easier to search

Thanks for that smallgarden, I love winning movie previews etc

I have never searched - do you need to use # or @ to search well ?

I rarely to never use them. If you know of a specific movie you want to see you can search dublin/cork preview or premiere, irish premiere, etc.

Sometimes google is good too. Win tickets, competition, win plus specific term etc and limit it to past week or month and if in google.ie you can limit to pages from Ireland

Does anyone know if you can enter Pigsback competitions more than once? Is it a once per day kind of thing?

Ya, you can enter once per day. I've been entering for years and never won anything on it. I probably haven't been consistent enough with daily entries though.

I've seen a few on the competition thread mention pigsback wins in the past.

  • Registered Users Posts: 309 ✭✭lillycakes2

Would pigsback expect you to answer daily to win? I don't think I could do that ! would wreck my head . ive never won with them either

I gave up on the PB ones, because I entered one and then got marketing calls from O2. Nipped them in the bud, because my number is unregistered, asked them how they got my number and to remove me from their lists or I'd report them.

No expectations. Just the more you enter, the better the chance you have of winning. I don't have the patience either.

That's dodgy. PB has been a sinking ship for a while so not too surprised to hear that.

Did you order anything recently. I got a pair of fake raybans when I ordered shoes from what turned out to be a sketchy site. It was tracked post to prove they'd sent the package
