Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    I'm doing Clonee 10k this evening , going to take it easy as I'm not good with heat. Did 5k Tuesday and will do 10k lsr on Saturday. Looking forward to race, had horrific race at this last year , was so warm and I hadn't drank any water 🙄

    I do, I have a running vest I use on training runs and I used one back in 2017 when I ran DCM

    I found it fine and worked no problems at all never really noticed it either on my back.

    This year though I am using two small bottles 250/500ml with tailwind for my long runs.

    Hi just wondering best place price/variety-wise to get zero tabs, tailwind, isogels? I haven’t run over a half-marathon distance in ages and have only relied on water for the past few years to get me through my runs. I think Gu was the only thing readily available when I ran longer distances in the past (showing my age here!) Thanks!

    Elevery’s seem to almost always have a buy one, get one half price on zero tabs and high5 gels. I haven’t priced around an awful lot though, their full price is probably not the cheapest.

    I take the zero tabs and gels(never get to take them) in Holland and Barrett. Just remember thinking they were cheap, can remember the price

    Legs were tired/heavy today after the 3 back to back runs and the cycle commuting. No running/cycling today and then LSR in the morning. Hope first week is going well for everyone.

    Enjoying it so far. Funnily enough I did notice a slight heaviness half way through yesterdays run which I thought odd given the pace but I guess its the accumulation.

    One thing that annoyed me, I changed the watch to miles from KMs, distances and pace were fine....laps were still set at KM. So after every 0.6 miles the watch beeped with the KM pace. Sorted now though. :-)


    8m in the morning. Looking forward to it, with an early start.

    Had this issue as well the other day which made for an interesting run. Distance was tracking in miles but pace was still in KMs, :o didn't take long to realise. Sorted it fully for the next run.

    I'm still feeling a bit off - I can't quite shake that nervous feeling in my gut, but all is good so I just need to get on with things.

    I did my club race this evening. I missed out on a PB by 5 SECONDS!!! :rolleyes: But, do you know what? I'm actually glad I didn't PB because Strava only recorded the race as 4.99km so it wouldn't have registered as a PB anyway and that would have been far more frustrating than the current situation :pac:

    I always admire people who are able to publish fantastic race reports pretty much right after they're done. At the moment my recollection of the race is: I ran over the start mat.
    1st km: Oh God.
    2nd km: Oh Jesus.
    3rd km: I don't want to be here.
    4th km: I can't breathe.
    5th km: I can't stop but I feel like I can't go on.

    I'll try think of something better in time for my running log post on Sunday.

    What a lovely morning, got up early and got the 8 miles out of the way.

    Which turns out is my second longest run ever, did it at 8'15 m/m, which was faster than I intended and average heart beat was 158.

    Hope everyone enjoys it today.

    Week one done - just back from my long run at 12.7 miles (not running long runs to plan as had started upping my mileage a bit early). Started just after a thunder storm and downpour and weather was actually perfect for the 2 plus hours. Managed to squeeze in the extra run to follow the boards plan but my strides on Wednesday were 300m strides rather than 50 m as that was our club track session. I will try get into following the plan more closely as we go on but don't want to miss out too much on my club running and the socialising that goes with it! Off to Majorca this evening - it's super hot there so I'm just hoping I can manage to get out early a few mornings for a couple of 3 milers and get back on plan when I come back. 27miles in total for the week. My ankle still sore on long runs - the rest in Spain may be no harm. Well done all on week 1 completed.

    I don't suppose you mis-typed that and it's supposed to read 9:15m/mile? You're very fast, but as you mention this was your second longest run ever, so you need to build endurance. Keep the long runs a good minute slower than today and you'll build that endurance

    Long one in the bag this morning. Went with an old training mate of mine that hasnt been around for a while and it was great to catch up. Slow runs always ensure you have enough breath to have a proper conversation and it flies by in company. I have been working on him to see about getting a place Monday morning but I dont think I'm having much joy :-)



    Still, he's committed to coming on most of the long runs at least which is great.



    8 miles at 9:35 per mile. Tried and tried to get it to 9:45 but it just kept sneaking back.



    First week gone just like that ! 17 to go.



    Does anyone have any idea how many people returned their entries? I know 2 people that have done it. With 2500 extra places being made available I wonder how many extra on top of that will be available Monday morning.

    Apologies for singling you out - after a whole week spent looking at people running too fast on strava it just happened to be your post which finally tipped me over the edge :)

    Well done this week. I think you can afford to take the paces a good bit easier, maybe nudge the easy runs above 11:20 mins/mi, and the long runs a bit easier than that. I also notice you run hilly enough routes regularly - nothing at all wrong with that if it's what's convenient and you're used to it, but you're average pace can be slower again on hilly days. Also, be conscious of the need to take it easier on warmer days too.

    I would like to see a more up-to-date race time though (apologies if I've missed one), as this would give us a better indicator of your current level. Do you have any races pencilled in during the plan?

    Yeah it is. I've a Garmin watch and when I upload a run to Garmin Connect it automatically pops into Strava too.

    As Mr G said you undoubtedly have to potential to run fast but endurance building is a necessity if you do get a marathon entry. Even 8:30 pace would be too fast. I wouldn't go lower than 9 mins or even 9:30 for now. Without knowing your max and resting HR I can't be very specific about your ranges but it is very unlikely that 157 falls into the Endurance zone.

    Wed - /
    Thurs - 5km
    Friday - /
    Sat - 10km
    Sun - Plan on Sugarloaf/Glendalough weather dependant, if not an easy 5/6km

    I raced Friday (5 miler) and this morning (parkrun) so I'm gonna put my LSR off until tomorrow. I think it's the lesser of two evils rather than trying to cram it in today.
    I also plan to slow down my easy pace as currently it doesn't feel "easy".
    Managing pace is trickier for me as I train in undulating terrain (hilly) so either I'm going way too slow (uphill) or way too fast (downhill) so I have to try to manage it a bit more by feel which is going to be a work in progress.

    Yes the local area is indeed hilly and I suppose convenient.
    Regarding race time I'm happy to finish between 4 to 5 hours.
    I have no races planned yet and would welcome your thoughts on what to book.
    Based in Dublin so ideally Dublin based race.

    Great - they’re built into the plans and the race series races also provide good opportunities to meet up.

    I used this link but just tried it again and now it says you need a code as entry is restricted? I’d say it was a mistake that it opened early and they copped on... now I’m worried they won’t honour my registration ... will send them an email and let you know what they say.

    Ok got a very quick reply back from them and apparently they were testing the system and registration is now closed again... but will be open again tomorrow morning as planned with 2500 entries available.

    I am a bit late to this! Just saw it on Facebook...and have spent hours going through all the posts so far. Looks brilliant.

    Have you raced before? If so what are your PBs? (Date and distance please!)

    I am very very new to running. I am 42 and started last year, running my first 5K on my own on January 1st. Since then I have become hooked. I am slow!

    Best 5K road race 7th June 31:31
    Best Templemore Parkrun 22nd June 32:12
    Best 6k road race 26th May Kyle GAA 40:24
    Best 10K 16th June Kildare Thoroughbred 1:05:33

    5K time gone from 37 to 31:31 since January.

    Do you still need to take walk breaks in your training? (No problem if you do)

    How much training do you currently do ? Distances, how many days a week, cross training - whatever you think is relevant to your current fitness level.
    I have just finished week 5 of the DCM training plan - advanced section. So I am currently running 4-5 times a week.

    What do you want to achieve? Dream finishing time and realistic finishing time? Or just complete it in no specified time?

    Got my long run in today. 18k in 1hr40min felt ok but still have niggle in my groin.. Have half marathon next Saturday so see how I get on in that... Hoping for a registration tomorrow...

    Hi bucky - best of luck in the morning!

    Today's LSR was far too fast, you should slow the pace down by at least 1min/km to 6:30/km or slower. Your run this morning was at race pace for a 3:50 marathon, that is way too fast to be running a long run at. What paces do you do your midweek runs at?
