Has anyone played Fortnite on this? Looking at it for the young fella who's a fanatic

The RN5 doesn't have the specs required to run it, so doubt anyone has.
OS: Recommended Android 8.0 or higher, 64 bit
RAM: 3GB or higher (Recommended 4 GB)
    GPU: Adreno 530 or higher, Mali-G71 MP20, Mali-G72 MP12 or higher

Don't think it will work for this phone by default.
I signed up back in the day and to-date the phone isn't supported as far as I know.
(There might be some workarounds to circumnavigate this, but I could be bothered).

It does however play PUBG nicely (although the young fella probably just wants FN).

Quick question, I don't see it mentioned. Does this have wireless charging?

Nope - hasnt even got NFC (well mine hasnt) - I dont know if NFC or Wireless Charging goes hand in hand or connected in any way , but just letting you know the redmi note 5 has no NFC like most of the other androids on the market now these days

Just ordered one from Argos. Would a 5 pro case fit this one?

Definitely not, as it has a metal back.
Wireless charging requires a glass back and then also the wireless tech inside to enable it.

yeah, i never thought of that but correct it has to have glass back - has the note 5 got a metal back though? because my 32/3gb feels like its got a plastic back - not metal

Note the model sold by Argos is the note 5 plus, and not the note 5 pro.
    You can Google the difference.
    Plus v Pro
    Snapdragon 625 v 636
    3GB ram v 4GB
    Camera could be different.
In general the Pro is somewhat better than the Plus.

you will have much more info if you go to UK argos website as well as picture of the back of the phone and reviews from buyers - 99 UK Pounds on UK website and would be unlocked to any network (works out 112.26 Euro )

You sure it would be plus? - because the name for it in China is 5 plus - and the global version would be pro - cannot see Argos selling the china version because i dont think that would have google play on it

I could be wrong but i think it would be Note 5 Pro on Argos

    snapdragon 636
    64/4gb
    4000mah
    20mp selfie camera
    12 MP, f/2.2, 1.25µm, PDAF
    5 MP, f/2.0, 1.12µm, depth sensor

It's definitely the 636 CPU in the Argos model. Or at least it is if the description is correct.

Which would mean it's the Pro model.

No such device as a Redmi Note 5 Plus.

You maybe thinking of the Redmi 5 plus sold in India as RN5, which resulted in the adding the 'Pro' onto the name for this device sold there.

The Global version is just called Redmi Note 5, although 'pro' appears in device info.

My bad, thanks for the clarification guys, should have posted that AFTER I had my coffee ;)

They have a few mistakes in the description, so it could be any number of phones depending on what part of the description you choose to believe :D

This evening for some reason my phone screen has started suffering from image retention, for example, I used Tinder for a few minutes, and when I went back to my home screen, I noticed that there was a slight imprint from Tinders navigation bar that was left on the top of my screen.

Is there a way to stop this from happening again or do I need to replace the screen/phone?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,123 ✭✭✭biebiebie

That's very unusual for an LCD screen.
Could be very inconvenient too being Tinder !!

Happened to me the other day on done deal too. I closed it down and it didn't happen again. I must say it's the best phone I ever bought.

They use an LCD screen that isn't of a very high standard. The budget phones usually have to save somewhere on materials. Sometimes it's the battery, inferior ram or the camera etc..
The Redmi Note 5 and Mi A1 (and others) use a mixture of panels, sounds like you got one of the lower quality ones (usually Tianma Panel).
Check what panel you have, by either
Typing *#*#6484#*#* into the phone dialer
    Or
    using this app under "Display"
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.finalwire.aida64

If you change some of the settings on your phone, you should no longer have any retention.
    If you go to
Settings -> Display -> Reading mode
and turn on reading mode and adjust the 'adjust' slider down a little.

If you have root, you could try this app
Also, custom kernels with kcal support in them, like insigniux

Edited - you could also try this app

This is common on my Rednote 4 also, last app used leaves a touch of a ghost imprint. Doesn't bother me

I use sa2ration with root. The screen is far more vivid and colours pop much more. Much more pleasing to the eye IMHO. Don't know why xiaomi doesn't offer an option like this .

When you plug in, pull down the top menu and you'll see a banner where you can choose what to do

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,041 ✭✭✭✭Andy From Sligo
