Just an FYI. Was in VW M50 Joe Duffy. It wasn't about the eGolf or electric

He was talking about T-Cross and how it landed with no information from VW. Asked about the ID.3

Seemingly they had a training day down in Athlone? I think he said. They had Leaf, i3, Zoe etc etc. All of the VW dealers around Ireland. All got to drive around in the cars and see how they drive, what options they came with etc.

Then got some training on the ID but he said it was limited. No real spec's or pricing or anything but it looked impressive what VW plan to do. Some details on Crozz etc but more or less the stuff you can find on web

He had no idea about the ID launch. No idea about reservation. Was asking me how I could reserve? did I need to ring VW..... Told me I couldn't get it till next year. A little shocked when I said the ordering was in September and that the order was via the dealers. He had no idea they would be taking in trade in cars. No idea about full launch in September with spec's, he thought it was next year

Seems like the flow down of information to the dealers is still not great

What do you mean have options? The list of garages is in the drop down when you order.
I'd say there is a sequence to the numbers, you'd be mighty teed off if you ordered day one and they give you a November delivery date.

I thought it might be useful, even from my own knowledge that VW Liffey Valley will be bringing in a few so should know their stuff.

I am not forcing anyone to share anything. I just thought it might be good to have a thread to share information as we find out. Keep the old ID Neo thread for non reservation information

I am not sure what sequence you want to share from reservation number

Mine starts with IDNeo

Then a load of random numbers and letter. Captials and lower case. Nothing I could see you would use to decipher dates/months etc

That's clearly down to the individual dealer. The dealer I've been communicating with is very much in the loop with information and training. But the person there has an interest in EVs and makes it his business to find out what's happening. He was well aware of the registration process and reckons that April is possible for deliveries, but won't be surprised by a slip of a couple of months.

Part of the reason why it could be good to know the dealers. I use Liffey Valley for my reservation. They are one of the first certified VW dealers and they have a good few people trained including the service staff.

As I said I wasn't in Joe Duffy about the ID but just asked because of the discussion, based on his knowledge I will stick with Liffey Valley

I know in UK people had loads of problems buying eGolf from dealers who didn't have the proper training, wrong charging cables getting supplied etc.

According to Jurgen Stackmann on twitter, 10,000 registrations in 24 hours across Europe.

You would have to think that that's the big rush over and registrations will be slow from now on. It's a long way off 30,000.

That is 10k without doing any advertising. The advertising starts on May 24/25th wasn't it?

I just asked around in office and my watsapp groups. In work two guys are interested in buying the ID but had no idea of launch. One guy is looking to preorder now. Other guy is checking later

IN both watsapp group not a single person was aware the launch was yesterday, again people going off to check....

Porsche have managed 40,000 on the Taycan mostly Tesla owners. 30,000 on a golfish should be no problem.

Put my reservation down yesterday @ Frank Keane Liffey Valley, been considering Tesla Model 3 since it was announced however not at near 50k for base model. VW ID looks pretty promising, really hoping Max trim will be an option for us here in Ireland!

I think it's funny that the ID has 170 hp and Leaf 64 will have 215 Hp.

I'm sure though the handling of the ID will be a lot better.

I didn’t see any HP figures but I remember VW saying the entry model would have lower power to longer range models.

They said that in South Africa....I need to watch again but I thought it was 200+ and 180 when they said 2 battery models

I read somewhere this launch model will be a performance model. Didn't mention specs but I'd assume bigger brakes (red capilers?) Spoiler and a few other body mods and a lunatic button.

The eGolf has huge performance and my one is just 115bhp.....sticking 170bhp and rear wheel drive should make it a excellent car

The eGolf issue is performance over 80km is restricted, that’s why it’s a perfect city car

Even my wife was in last night, she is not a car person, just came out and said you forget how much fun it is driving the eGolf around town

What you mean? You do the reservation online, you just pick which dealer you want to use

The dealers I don’t think know yet how many people have picked them

Refundable up untill order. If you place the order then you get your reservation fee back and you have ordered the car. The reservation fee does not go against the deposit of the car

One up and running, one been built, we have more than the UK running....YES :-)

They have signed up with Tesco UK, 600 stores to get chargers. I wonder would Ireland fall into this? I must ask

The charging bays will be based in Tesco Extra and Superstore car parks throughout the United Kingdom, and will be installed by the UK’s largest independent public charging network operator, Pod Point. Customers will be able to charge their electric cars using a standard 7kW fast charger for free, or benefit from the use of a rapid 50 kW charger for a small cost in line with the market rate.

Really? So each Tesco's will have both AC and DC chargers? Multiple slots each? Good strategy for sure, VW have been pushing German federal government to actually mandate big supermarkets to install chargers.

So this is good news for the UK, but I think it will either not happen in Ireland or will be paddy specs, scaled down crappy version of it.

Most of the tesco stores in Dublin have slow chargers installed now as far as I am aware.....

This is a joint venture by Teso/VW and Pod Point....so we would need the same companies to do it in Ireland....

Oh yeah, not exactly. They are doing at 600 stores...

Tesco had over 3700 in 2017.....so not every store

I would guess the huge supermarket with multiple spots will get them. The small mini markets etc wouldnt have the spot to give over to chargers

16% that's fair enough and in line with what vw is pushing in Germany I'd say, don't think they ask for corner shops installing chargers, would be for bigger stores with plenty of parking.

Don't know what the supermarkets are like further south, but most big supermarkets and decent sized stores up here in the north, such as Spar, Centra etc, have LOADS of disabled spots. I think we must have a vast amount of lame people in the NW.

I know Derry used to have a figure of 11% receiving DLA, or Disability Living Allowance. Over 1 in 10 needed help getting around!

And if the EV charging spots are anything like the disabled spots up here, they will be permanently occupied by ICE cars, driven by able bodies ignorant folk.

The mid range one gets me to mizen or malin head and most of the way home so hopefully won't really need a public charger unless I'm going to either.

To be fair thats impressive. And of course no excuse for folk now to buy into the EVs. If you can travel the length of the country and more on one charge, I'd be impressed ok.

But will it really do this? We all know predicted mileage and range from cars is usually way off true values.

VW have said that every dealership will have a rapid charger available to the public. Probably limited to the brand like the current Audi ones.

You'll get the deposit back. Its not gone in Sep!

Its just not put against the car directly. You order from your dealer and pay them but you'll have the €1k back in your pocket to give them.

I dont think thats right either. Sept is the official reveal in Frankfurt where you get to see the price and full spec. I dont think you will be placing your order in Sept. Early 2020 for the ordering and the ordering window will be open for 2 months to make up your mind.

Fully Charged might, they already got to test drive a very early one in south africa a while back.
