Lyanna Mormont taking down the giant was met with a big sigh from me, smallest girl kills largest enemy - yawn. But they ****ed themselves by putting a giant inside the walls as no one could realistically kill it or maybe just maybe it's now a perfect chance for Tormund to back up his exaggerated story behind his name.

Overall I enjoyed the episode but there was still plenty of things that annoyed me because of their sheer stupidity.

    - Their use of the dragons was terrible during the battle, at one point Jon and Rhaegal are sitting on the wall of Winterfell while everyone is getting killed, well the no name characters are.
    - Sam just hanging out being useless, spends the whole episode on his back like a turtle and somehow survives.

Why do you watch TV shows then if not to enjoy them and have that enjoyment benefit your life? The preferable option is always enjoying what you’re spending time doing. But now we’ve got people who are determined to go through every strategic move with a fine toothcomb to find flaws in it for the sake of...what, a few likes?

People who enjoyed it: got taken on an 80-minute thrill ride last night in an episode that satisfied years of watching this show/following this story.

People who nitpicked: didn’t get any of that, feel annoyed about all the time they put in, but their reward for staying up til 3.30am was that they got to post on the Internet, feel clever for about a second and get a few arbitrary likes from strangers.

Bit of a **** way to live for me, but each their own I guess!

Yeah most of us that didn't mostly enjoy last nights episode but loved all seasons leading up to this, just decided that this season we would go against the grain to get likes on boards.ie. It couldn't possibly be a case of the shows logic, script and storytelling have taken a nose dive

I watch shows as a form of entertainment, nothing more nothing less. I already said it was a good episode, didn't think it was great personally. I enjoyed some parts, thought other parts were a bit too Disney and full of plot armour. Not coming on to tell people the way they watch the show is crappy, how judgmental, bit of a **** way to live :D

This was it for me. We, the viewer could see everything unfold and the fight for the throne almost felt petty and pointless in the face of such an existential threat as the Night King. Yet it was the Night King who was pointless, all the mystery and supernatural power irrelevant.

Very good point: a few seasons back it seemed that the show was about the folly of man bickering about little things while an unstoppable and all powerful and horrifying tsunami would show up that folly for what it was. By going out with a whimper, it does take away from that - like a horrifying alien invasion, where the camera then pans out and you see the aliens are just ant sized.

The original actor who played the Night King was Joe Chill in Batman Begins.

Was good. Enjoyed it. Battle was bit hard to follow the large battles, it being so dark. Difficult to make out who was getting stabbed or chewed on. I heard the non-HD version was even worse.

Still though, loved the music. Surprised of this outcome so early in the season. Be very interesting to see how this now also plays out.

Couple of things I'm insure about..

    1) Is there only one dragon left?
    2) What happened to the white wolf?
    3) Does the North even have an army anymore?

Now that's an interesting bit of trivia haha. They should've kept him. Not that it really matters now....

... I wonder if his disappointing passing alludes to a bigger villain? I wonder if The Three Eyed Raven could still have nefarious purposes?

Just hoping for something meaty at this point :P

Considering the quality of writing throughout the episode, it would have been consistent for Arya to say "You should have a rest..." to the night king, before her jamming in the knife. Then following up with "You look shattered!".

Would have driven home the direction the show has taken.

At least the Night King knew Theon was a main character, so he could allow Bran to verbally redeem him and allow him a bizarre heroic charge. Thankfully, this stalled time enough for Arya to teleport past a horde of White Walkers and Wights, and re-enact Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.

Fair play they could have dragged that out to the finale and went with the obvious ending.

Having this episode as the 3rd out of a 6 episode season is brave imo

Because I was expecting the white walker war thing to be the very last plot to be done for the show.

At least this way characters won’t be tied up in a war but will end the show on a more grounded level.

God bless drogon also thank god he survived my heart was pounding for him when all the walkers were stabbing him:(

Incredible episode the 1.20mins just flew right by and I was so tensed up when it was over I need a lie down LOL

Tell me about it. Draw and stand there, what do you think you're achieving rushing the final boss???? Him effectively killing himself doesn't even make sense, he was leaving Bran completely alone.

Goddamnit lads I was really looking forward to this episode after the last two talky ones... :(

I'm so glad sites like IGN and posters here complained about the darkness.

I was banging the brightness up on my TV.

    Good ep.

Bit shocked it's all over with the walkers.

    Shocked how many survived.

Kinda wish they'd don't this in ep 2. Alot of the defenfe for ep 2 was how important it was to have scenes with these characters before they all die....bit that didn't really happen!

I was also glad it wasn't just me who was unsure if a dragon died or not. It looked like the NK one died , that one of Danni's died after being mobbed.

Guess the teaser clears it up.

I truly cannot believe they gave Arya the kill on the Night King, who she has never interacted with before. Jon Snow was literally resurrected by Melisandre in order and kept hinting at his eventual destiny. And if they were going to swerve expectation, how amazing would it have been to have Jaime Lannister, the Kingslayer, be the one to kill the NK and for that name to be a source of pride rather than shame.

The plot and characterisation of Arya has been bad beyond belief since Season 5.

Hadnt thought of that with Jaime, would have been a really clever way of ending it alright.

There's still 3 extended episodes to go yet
I wonder/ hope do the writers have a sting in the tail for us yet re: winters coming , army of the dead, Brans 3eyed raven act. Or is that the end of fantasy land and it's now back to plain old medieval warmongering back where we started .

I thought it was a very good episode. My only real grip was the constant character teleporting. I've become used to films/tv shows where the hordes of baddies form an orderly queue to take turns trying to kill the outnumbered good guys and this rarely bothers me anymore. The teleporting though was a bit frustrating, none more so than Jorah coming to Dany's rescue.

Question - did one or two dragons survive?

I mean, the Night King and his army literally exploded. Hard to see how they keep going with that story line.

Ah come on, it's been shown now that Melisandre foresaw Arya being the one to kill him, all the way back in Season 3. Plus Bran giving her the knife she'd use back in season 7.

There was a few potential people for who would kill the NK in the end, but GRRM has never been one for choosing the obvious option.

Yeah i get that ,It just seemd such an anticlimactic end to a threat that's be hovering menacingly in the background since the get go of the program.

How has it been shown? They added a line of dialogue in this episode to do that! There was 0 set-up for it before that.

GRRM??? THERE IS NO NIGHT KING IN THE BOOKS. So you can be assured that he would not have randomly had Arya Stark kill him.
