Wonder purpose of bran and Tyrion cosy chat

Possibly just a 'x hadn't really talked to y' yet issue and given that neither would be fighting, maybe it was one to get out of the way.

That said, he seems to be the only one who was interested in talking to Brann that we've seen on screen.

Wonder purpose of bran and Tyrion cosy chat

I bet he was asking Bran about the Night King, trying to find out any details that may help in the battle. I feel like Tyrion has a major part to play here.

Last night's episode was a perfect example of that. All of these characters, many of them ostensibly rivals. The potential power battle between Jon and Dany. It was all there on screen. Yet we're treated to yet another bare arse and Ser Davos' stale dialogue ("I think I'll have that drink"). I mean seriously, it's just awful.

Many would disagree. I thought the tension being released by humour throughout was a stroke of genius.
I think some fans have expectations verging on the ridiculous. This episode was about highlighting that they are in fact human, and what it is that they are fighting for.

Was that the first episode that occurred solely in one location?

Wonder purpose of bran and Tyrion cosy chat

As someone on Reddit pointed out, it's probably just a callback to the second episode where Tyrion said...

"I hope the boy does wake, I'd be very interested to hear what he has to say."

I was oddly moved by Sansa and Theon reuniting.

Battle of blackwater? Think the battle at the castle black too. And the BoB? Maybe the first non battle episode to stay in one location

Watchers on the wall was all in the one location

Ah yes. Thanks for the reminder. Genuinely forgot those episodes were solely in one spot too :)

    Positives:

Tormund waffling on about being suckled by a giant and everybody else wondering WTF?
    Theon Greyjoy and Sansa reuniting.
    Brienne getting knighted.
Lyanna Mormont being as hard as nails.
    The building sense of foreboding.

    Negatives:

Loads of conveniently interrupted conversations that leave us nowhere.
Danaerys somehow being unprepared for Sansa to ask what happens to The North after the war.
Arya and Gendry seemed totally out of character. It was needless and added nothing to the story.
Bran just sitting in all the right places as usual, wordlessly and omnipotently. No matter what door anybody walks out of, Bran will be right there, staring off into the middle distance.

Overall, dipped into cliche a bit more than usual - in particular the interrupted conversations. But I thought the pacing was alright. It was, in a way, a vehicle for us to say a goodbye to some characters that will be dead by the end of the next episode.

I've my issues with the last few seasons, but that was such a simple scene that they nailed. There were a few manly tears alright.

I'm really interested that by the way it's going now the Night King might be dealt with by Episode 4 and Cersei might be the final "enemy".

Anyone else think the 'Battle of winterfell' could be a false ploy and the Night King accompanied by a large army of the undead will march to Kings landing instead to bolster his numbers first?

I don't think that is going to happen because the NK could easily fly to KL and turn everyone to ice. If he adds 1 million to his army and they attack Winterfell from the south, not a chance would Winterfell win.

I wonder if we'll have any of the living die during battle be reanimated by the Night King and have to be killed by a close 'live' ally.

Brienne dying and Jamie having to kill her in dead form. Beric dying (and I'd HATE that) and the Hound having to kill his dead version. I guess one likely one would be Dead Viserion being taken out by one of the live ones.

Wonder if Nymeria might return also in the battle..

    I was thinking the same

Thought it was a great episode
Lots of future issues with who will sit on the throne:
Dani knows Jon is a possible heir
Arya knows Gendry is Robers son
Sansa and Dani hitting a wall over ruling the North

I think Dani was bothered when she seen Theon choosing Sansa ...like a lot of others have.

Next week is going to be a killer ...not sure if I’m ready for it.

It's horrible having to wait a week for the next episode, so many potential different outcomes makes it impossible to predict.

I think the Sansa scene more so demonstrated to Dany that Sansa and the Starks are so loved and respected in the North and may push her to accepting that the north is out of her reach for rule.

    I thought about the Night King travelling south first (or even deploying half and half) but I think it fails on a few key issues;
    1) They march incredibly slowly and even with GOTs propensity for convenient travel times, it's unfathomable to think they'd march that far down given their trudging walk.
    2) Winterfell is very central on the map when you come south off the wall and it would take a lot to get around Winterfell without being noticed and a bit contrived by the screenwriters that they went around it.
    3) Word would have reached Winterfell from the numerous places between it and King's Landing that the dead were there. There's too many places with some semblance of people.
    4) Bran would know.

This is proving to be a steaming pile of dung. It’s very very weak and soooooooo drawn out for the sake of it. Usual pathetic 8th series forced humour with Thormund looking to ride Brianne.....max lolzzzzz NOT!

Great episode. It forces me to think back through all the preceding seasons to all the interactions the characters have with each other.
Theon especially has had such a rollercoaster story arc with so many characters.
I know some people think it's all a bit wordy and hammy to have main characters just having the chats, but it ties up their stories nicely I think.

The scene in front of the fire just shows how far everyone has come.
They've all been enemies and allies at one time or another. All have traveled the length of the country, faced death, loss, pain and anguish and finally they end up in the same room having a pint.

I think many are going to die next week.

I have watched it since season 1 and would be on the point of giving up tbh. This is rubbish. Is just milking it’s popularity and the fans are lapping it up like the brain washed zombies of the Night Kings army. Knock yourself out bro’ but you are fooling by yourself at this stage.

Yep, us and the 17 million people who watched and love the show are wrong.

You are correct, oh enlightened one...:rolleyes:

Guarantee you'll be back next week with more withering commentary.

This episode was perfection. Incredibly thoughtfully put together.

Thank you so much for sharing that. It matched my experience / thoughts of this episode 100%. The writers gave me all my feelings exactly like they intended to. Masterful.

Don't say "tbh" when you know well you'll be watching the last 4 episodes. After 70 hours The Night King is literally outside Winterfell and you would have us believe you're not interested in what happens?
