I thought he resigned as CEO? If so, no package is necessary. Whatever chance his cronies have of hanging on to all their juicy little perks, they will be run out of town if they try to pay an 'ex gratia' payment. Besides, JD is no good to them now, why would they bother.

He probably has more interest in making sure the bodies stay buried. Revenue take a very dim view of lax expense accounts.

I’d say he has plenty on people that won’t come back on him. People don’t rise in those organizations without learning a trick or two on keeping others in line

Why would Revenue have anything to do with this?

It’s none of their business if the FAI board were happy to sign off on their CEO’s exorbitant expenses. The revenue have interest in tax issues. Why would they have any interest in an expense account? Utterly and completely a non revenue issue.

Some of the posts here show complete unawareness of what is happening with this situation. There seems to be a constant idea being promoted that Delaney is on the hook for fraud or financial misconduct or something .

Just to be completely clear if you are a CEO, your expenses have to be approved by the board, once they are, you are in the clear.

Revenue have very very clear and exacting guidelines on what is, or isn't, a legitimate expense. Cash advances, petrol bills and meals at your local pub are most definitely out. I'm sure though, JD reimbursed the FAI for anything that wouldnlt comply. ;)

Because if they declared things as expenses that should have been BIK or taxed under another bracket it's tax fraud...

if they are not accounting on his expense account for BIK, the revenue will be very interested.

Fair enough, hadn’t considered the BIK angle. Think petrol bills are very much an example of legit expenses.

There’s plenty of people I work with who put their food down on expenses while traveling for work. How does that fit in to being legitimate?

Having meals down your local pub like JD did or ordering takeaways in isn't travelling with work or legit expenses.

People travelling with work that they can demonstrate is legit is fine otherwise it's BIK and an issue for revenue.

does eating in the pub across the road from your gaff count as travel?

It's clear you don't understand how expenses work in terms of the Revenue Commissioners interest in them.

Petrol bills are not legit unless all the patrol is consumed on work travel and there's no private travel. If there is private travel, that element has to be declared. I'm assuming here that he wasn't getting mileage also if he was getting the fuel paid, but it's the FAI so that's a big assumption!

Food/meal expenses while travelling for work are legit expenses. Within reason of course

One last "f*ck you" to the entire country from that board of wasters giving that criminal one last payday. It's unbelievable that he'll get a payoff from a board that should be out the door behind him.

Is there nobody with the power to stop this? The MOS maybe? Revenue? Someone has to step in and halt all of this pending a full investigation.

Drip feeding the press from within to get JD out the door or a whistleblower is doing a very good job. Keep it up lads.

Not at all surprising. As I said on here a while ago I've been offered a free ticket to just about every Ireland game played over the past few years. All I had to pay for was a seat on the bus. Never went obviously.

There are buses of people going up from Sligo for every game. All free tickets.

I think Sport Ireland and the Minister may have a lot of questions if he gets a large payout.

They will know that the optics of "guy does wrong, gets ball of money after he said he would resign" will play out badly in the media. There will be a public perception that it eats into money that could be better spent elsewhere.

Expenses to be tax deductible have to be "wholly and necessarily incurred " make no mistake about it, someone's ears in Revenue will be pricked with the expenses revelations, cost nothing for Revenue to initiate a Full revenue audit on both FAI and John Delaney personally. They can only generate money for Revenue, no matter how squeaky clean records are, its unusual enough for Revenue to find nothing

I’d like Sport Ireland to say whatever payout he gets that amount will be deducted from the next grant the FAI do get.

It would certainly be interesting to know where an organisation that is seeminly living hand-to-mouth is going to get the cash required for the payout of someone at Delaney's income level.

As I posted earlier, you don't have to pay a severance package to someone who resigned his position and JD is not in the VP's job long enough to have acquired any rights whatsoever. Is he going to tell us he didn't really resign as CEO after all?

Nothing typifies FAI mismanagement of matters so perfectly as events over the past month. It is textbook how to lose any semblance of power and authority and become a target for criticism across the board, and sanctions.

    It's all been delightful.

Great episode of Second Captains about Delaney. It's crazy that the Saipan thing was 2002 and the FAI are still the same. Ken Early made the point that Delaney will spend €8,000 on a stay in the Ritz Carlton but the Ireland Womens National Team have to change in the airport toilets because the FAI won't give them their own tracksuits.

Being told JD and his lawyer were at the board meeting today. Seems he is trying to hang in there. Mate also told me Conway has wanted rid of him since he took office....told not to be suprised if Conway was the grass.
