So could JD and co be legally and not just morally corrupt....who would have thought it.

Full forensic independent audit please and thank you! No ifs or buts.

Amazing level of brass neck on display here, this guy with an accountancy background obviously has to be aware of where the mess he’s created and overseen is headed. Yet hanging on anyway he can to an untenable position. Incredible even for someone like him!

I suspect this is only the tip of the iceberg. It's all coming out now. This is glorious.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Not sure I understand why the Deloitte news is considered big?Wasn't Conway asked last Wednesday if the €100k loan was reported to Deloitte and he said no? So we've known for certain since last Wednesday that proper records were not being kept. Is it just big because Deloitte have now officially reported it to the CRO or am I missing something else...

On the topic of accounts not being held properly.....surely Deloitte as the auditors should be held to account as they didnt highlight this before now. Seems like they are trying to save their backsides......

Furthermore if all accounts were used....did the FAI dip into prize money paid to clubs for European games when it was resting in their account??? The big questions is then...what else have they been dipping into??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,132 ✭✭✭✭Cienciano

If this is true, the whole lot of them should be sacked on the spot.

Well, there were journalists outside the hotel all day and Delaney disappeared in his car. Unless there's some reason their own meeting rooms couldn't facilitate the meeting, it's just another way of píssing away money. Don't get me started on first class flights and 5 star hotels

my thoughts exactly. easy for them to highlight this now when the question of the FAIs finances were already in the public domain. I would question how they were able to sign off FAIs finances in prior years though.

The committee was due to go into public session at 1pm but the start has been delayed because of this new information and also because it is still awaiting an opening statement from Minister for Sport Shane Ross.
How is that fella still Sports Minister after his embarrassing performance with all that Hickey codology

Signing off on accounts or auditing of accounts can only be done when material is offered to be checked. It stinks here of a case of someone in the FAI either running double accounts for auditing purposes or someone covering up and only offering Deloitte the bare minimum to check...in the second case someone within the FAI must have had a friend at Deloitte.

Id have thought its a big deal as they're 'confirming' systemic lack of proper accounting, rather than a one off 100k.

It is a good day. As long as they are not replaced by equally incompetent and corrupt people

You're right. Focusing too much on the €100k. I'm sure there is far more to come out.

He will be gone by then.....hence the comment in the letter about employment law. He is fighting for his golden handshake....

I won't believe he's gone till he's actually gone. He clearly will do anything to hold onto some sort of power in the FAI, he won't go till he's dragged out like Julian Assange last week

Very possible that the FAI hid material from their accounts, and by extension the auditors. If there's been material that has been hidden or not recorded, then there's a good chance the auditors wouldn't be aware. However, this then becomes a criminal matter for members of the organisation.

Let's wait and see what happens though before we start castigating any of the parties involved. It's pretty apparent now that this is going to happen - board resigning in full is huge!

    This is amazing, simply amazing.

Mark Tighe deserves the freedom of the land for getting this ball rolling.

Mark Tighe should certainly be getting a lot of awards for his pursuit of the story and the service that he has done for football and the tax paying public.
