Anyone read that article by Stephen Hunt about how he wants John Delaney and the FAI to come out fighting?

    https://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/international-soccer/stephen-hunt-it-may-not-be-a-popular-view-but-id-like-to-see-john-delaney-and-the-fai-come-out-fighting-38012351.html

"It may not be a popular view..."

No kidding. What is wrong with this country?

Personally I think it's a very clever piece but the clickbait headline does Hunt no favours.
In fairness he makes some suggestions, gives praise where it's due but also asks plenty of questions.
Essentially he's saying what everyone else was saying during the week but wording it differently. What he seems (to me anyway !!) to be saying is that he'd prefer if Delaney and the FAI had answered the questions during the week rather than falling back on the "I'm saying nothing" defence. If they had done that maybe we'd be some bit closer to what's really going on.

Unfortunately the headline as always 'grabs the headlines'. A lot of people reacting to it haven't even read the article and even those that have, most don't seem to assess it from a neutral perspective.

Whats a neutral perspective? Are some people exactly neutral reading stuff? Fair play to them. I read it and it might have been a decent piece if Hunt hadn't ridiciously described everything as a football match, ".....just waiting for them to give him a tap in" etc etc. There's a reason questions weren't answered, it's because it would lead to more of them. During Delaney's tenure, questions on anything have been a big no-no.

I highly doubt that article was all Hunt's own work and he sure didn't write the headline.

I'll think because you'll find that all sporting organisations, be it FIFA, UEFA, OC, FAI etc etc, are all rift with corruption.

Too many people in those types of organizations work their way to the top but have the wrong backgrounds for the type of administration they do. There is no need for the people at the top to have involvement at lower levels or be backed by the different leagues or groups within the organization, they need competent managers who know how to work toward targets. It’s sometimes better to be s complete outsider with no pre conceived notions or loyalties about the existing setup.

I also would like to thank John Delaney for his idiotic behaviour over the last few weeks particularly

The desperate Saturday night fever injunction attempt

The utterly stupid “I’m sayin nuthin” star turn from him in the oireachtas last week

Good man John. Couldn’t happen to a nicer fella.

Why is it that these folk, when they get to a certain position, think they are untouchable.

Can't they see how much the public have turned against them?

Why fight against such a huge opinion, they ain't ever going to win

I can think of 400,000 reasons why he would try to drag it out.

Drip feeding the press from within to get JD out the door or a whistleblower is doing a very good job. Keep it up lads.

No wonder the FAI had no money.

because they surround themselves with yesmen and people all too willing to get their snout in the trough.

and make no mistake, every single one of them clowns who celebrated this despicable, contemptable person's actions when he was lashing out bags of cans, buying pints and singing rebel songs at jolly knees-ups are also responsible. The idiots who shushed Monaghan United fans for calling him out, more interested in being the craic having madlads along with their very dear leader, drinking out of shoes, oh what fun they had.

Irish EPL fans who've ignored and shut down complaints from LOI fans ever since these person took the reigns because they don't really care and this is just the "outrage du jour" for them.

They always cheat. They always lie. That wasn't a soundbite. That wasn't an opinion.

    Fúck them all.

Dunphy denied being a friend of Delaney then Brendan o connor said “didn’t you attend his 50th in mount Juliet” it was all over the papers at the time

Eamo replies “maybe I did half the country went to that hahah”.

Personally I’ve lost a huge amount of respect for him over this issue.

Was his 50th an expense. :P

Mount Juliet for an Irish football CEO . Staying in touch with grass roots John.

Touched on earlier . But when he started bringing his girlfriend to work and was on the lash at work . He had completely lost touch. Just something a real CEO doesn't do.

His late late appearance at that time was cringe.

Disappointed with Dunphy . He normally calls these guys out very well.

Who exactly has dunphy ever called out apart from easy targets?

    - Every Irish manager we ever had, the idea he pushed was that the only thing holding Ireland back was a succession of unfit managers and was lapped up by idiots.
    - Glenn whelan,
    - anyone who opposed Roy Keane when Eamon was writing his book. Easy back then because Roy was the people’s/mob’s hero. Harder more recently when he’s seen as a bit of a head case.

John Delaney held a position as the FAI CEO for 15 or so years and at least he has faced so sort of election.

Eamon Dunphy spouted ****e on the RTE for 40 years and never faced much push back from his buddies on the panel or from RTE bosses and when he finally did and got pushed out the door he’s been bitter about it ever since.

What’s he going to tell you about Delaney and the need for change.

I don't think anyone here is paying too much attention to what Dunphy has to say.

I like Dunphy, he's entertaining. But really, I think it's been proven time and time again that his "expert opinion" shouldn't be taken seriously.

Doubt if it will be acceptable for Delaney to hold on to his UEFA gig, if he's not fit to be member of FAI how in Gods name can he be fit to hold office in UEFA , last week a German FA member had to resign from both German FA and UEFA over a 6k watch, buttons to Delaney gravytrain, he probably wouldn't wear a mere 6k watch.

Also interested to hear if FAI were paying into a pension scheme for Delaney, should come out in the wash too if they were. Truth is we haven't a clue what he was on including exps.

Having a generous contract with a generous personal expenses account will horrify the UEFA bigwigs alright.

If Delaney had been exposed by a Sunday paper of accepting 6k watches he’d been out of job by that Tuesday. It’s straight up accepting of gifts which is a BIG NO NO in the corporate world.

As far Delaney’s pension; Yes of course that will be paid for by the FAI. Unless he has contravened any rules that means he is not entitled to a pension which it’s very unlikely he has.

Delaney will sail off into the sunset, either way, with an epic pension and his reputation intact with at least some of the soccer fraternity.
There'll be a lot made of it in an effort to sweep a few things away with him but I hope the reports that are ongoing get to the bottom of the issues that have been raised in the past few months.

That's only the start of it. There's his FAI credit card, there's the first class travel, five star hotels everywhere you go. The lovely 'per diems' that go with high office (what a quaint term), the entry to world class sports events in the best seats. Your employer paying for your petrol, your meals out, providing cash. The staff to work out all your travel arrangements. The gifts from hosting organisations (I saw JD's 'commemorative' gold medal that the South Africans struck for all the FIFA heads at the 2014 World Cup group stages draw - it was the size of a side plate). Sponsors gift ...... the list would be endless. Plus, imagine the fawning that, for example, the Qataris would do for your vote?

.... and there is of course the guarantee he'll not be kicked out without some sort of golden handshake.

I wonder will the "John Delaney " park be renamed "Disgraced John Delaney" park :)

Which is madness, as he has signalliled that he is resigning.

But no doubt the FAI will try to divert a huge chunk of money his way. Might not wash with the Minister or Sport Ireland.

Any stewards that try and take down a banner need to have a long hard look at themselves.
Having said that, the gardai throwing out that TD at Cork in relation to their banner turned out great, gave it loads of publicity.
