He's only 'stepping aside', not resigning. The sheer neck on that man.

    ...............

'The Board of the Football Association of Ireland met in Dublin today. Following that meeting, the sub-committee of the Board met with Executive Vice-President John Delaney.

John Delaney has offered to voluntarily step aside from carrying out his role as Executive Vice-President with immediate effect pending the completion of an independent investigation by the Association into issues of concern to the Board.

Honorary Secretary Michael Cody and Honorary Treasurer Eddie Murray have both voluntarily resigned from the Board.

The Board would like to thank Michael Cody and Eddie Murray for their long service to Irish football and wish them well after their voluntary resignations.

The meeting of the Board also mandated the sub-committee, set up to review Governance and recently publicised financial transactions, to press ahead with their work as a matter of urgency. The FAI will update Sport Ireland on all developments ahead of the meeting of the Oireachtas Committee on Sport tomorrow.

The Board of the Association wishes to assure members, football supporters and all stakeholders and sponsors that it is expediting all processes designed to restore faith in the Football Association of Ireland.

The Board acknowledges all concerns raised by stakeholders and supporters and is working to ensure that all Government funding is restored to Irish football at the earliest opportunity.'

Cody and Murray gone, Delaney offered to step aside, but is seemingly not gone.

    Slippery, slippery, slippery.

For the love of god, man, just go.

Hopefully they still push on with the audit.

Everyone needs to be made aware that both Cody & Murray already had one foot out the door and were leaving in 2020 & 2021 anyways. They're pushing early retirement onto them to try to reduce the pressure. More sh*te from the FAI.

Dan McConnell said that the outcome of him stepping aside may not have been what he wanted. I wonder did he
    A) stay as his in his role
    B) want a payoff but wasnt offered one?

He is looking for a payoff. No money to give it to him it seems

Stepping aside pending the outcome of the investigation is absolutely bizarre.

There is pretty much nothing that can come out of any half-decent investigation what would justify or excuse anything that's been revealed so far. This can only get worse for Delaney. If he thinks he's going to find it easier to quell public unrest after there's a report then he's either deluded, or the FAI know that the report will be fudge-y.

With the murmerings coming out of Sport Ireland it is hard to see how his position is in any way teneble.

That is an absolutely comical statement - what exactly does it mean?

Not at all. Has offered to step aside, PENDING the result of an investigation.

Looks like will cling on for another while.

Me thinks there will be a few protests/demonstrations tonight.

It could mean after the audit he has to resign in disgrace. If the bloody audit is actually done

Delaney and the board are deluded if they think throwing those 2 under the bus will suffice. Time to organise a march on Abottstown, they need ti get the message loud and clear. Ill take a dsys holiday if it's a midweek one, better as theboffice would be in full operation.

If he resigns he loses his UEFA executive committee position. It is only open to those who hold an active office with their association in one of the following positions: President, Vice President, General Secretary or CEO.

    Tough titty.

He must be seriously deluded if he thinks a report will absolve him. What has come out so far is enough to doubt his ability to govern with accountability.

This is only going to piss people off more

Anyone know how long it would take to do an emergency audit on them?

My worry is if this gets bogged down in a long drawen out process he will survive as the public attention focus will lost interest

He wouldn't lose his current Uefa role until the re-election ...in 2021, I think it is?
He's not entitled to hold the role if he doesn't retain one of those positions at the FAI. If he resigns he'll be forced to vacate the UEFA Executive Committee position and his replacement will be elected at the next Ordinary UEFA Congress on 3 March 2020 in Amsterdam.

Great episode of Second Captains about Delaney. It's crazy that the Saipan thing was 2002 and the FAI are still the same. Ken Early made the point that Delaney will spend €8,000 on a stay in the Ritz Carlton but the Ireland Womens National Team have to change in the airport toilets because the FAI won't give them their own tracksuits.

    Listened to it myself earlier.

That aspect of the whole saga of money just been spent like that - lavishly for the highest luxury - with no oversight or accountability, while the women's team can't even have basic facilities and other members of staff are taking pay-cuts, it really just underlines how farcical the whole set-up was/is.

They really are a contemptible organisation. I wonder is this designed to stick two fingers up at everybody wanting some accountability or are they just genuinely so out of touch that they think this will be satisfactory?
