Disclaimer; per my earlier post, this is my car.

Its getting tested Thursday evening. I fully expect it to pass, so I have taken the liberty of saying tested until May '20.
Any callers will be made aware of this.

    Asking €775
€600 to anyone quoting this thread!

    October '17!
It's been a really really good car. In all honesty I don't need to change. I just had a bit of a hankering for the particular model A6 I bought.

While I understand it is a cheap car it is a pet hate of mine when the ad claims no issues at all and there is one. The blower issue (resistor perhaps?) might not be major, but I would rather list it in the ad, or even better - fix, than just expect the buyer never checked it. Or try to explain it after someone made the trip to look at it.

Not a dig at you, more of a general observation ;)

    Good luck with sale anyway!

^^I very much agree with that sentiment. I find it extremely refreshing and endearing when I see it noted in an ad that there is a flaw with a car and also photos of that dented panel/ torn seat etc. It really gives the impression that I will be dealing with an open and transparent seller. My commentary is probably more applicable to a more expensive car but of course it depends on the nature of the flaw too taking the asking price into consideration.
That said, I mentioned that thought to a few members of the general public and while few agreed with me a few also thought I was absolutely nutsbiggrin.png

Remember though that we're not not normal members of the public. I mean, see what that Xedos has done to some of us!

I know that too BonnieSitution but lets not loose sight of the fact that the general public buy cars from Donedealtongue.png
Lord above its like the motors forum is a secret sect or someit!

On the other hand last time I mentioned issues on the car that was still OK to drive, tested etc I only got 200 for it at the end as I couldn't wait any longer.

So maybe the tactic of bringing the potential buyer in and dropping the price a bit is better than just throwing the towel.

I bought Volvo listed at 1300 for 900 and the seller wasn't even offended, so maybe that's the way to go.

Like I said listing some issues wouldn't bother me as I and many of you have at least basic knowledge and fix things on their own from time to time.

On the other hand you don't want to deal with bangeromics specialists as you will end up with 40% of original price :)

This has now been dropped to €1250. Can't see it hanging around too long now as it's a more realistic price

Still there it seems, think you mentioned the engines are bulletproof in these, seen a similar newer car for only slightly more, a jag x type with a 2.2 diesel and longer nct, anyone know what the 2.2 jag diesels are like, presume belt engines, but in terms of reliability?

Ya, I totally take your point. I listed the issues on here as I know I am dealing with like minded individual!
I chose to leave them off the donedeal advert to save myself the pain of guys calling and wasting my time telling me it's a heap of scrap and offering €200.
Your completely right though, there are some issues and I'll remove that line from the advert in the interests of honesty.
Any callers with a genuine interest will be told about these issues before they travel, I wouldn't let anyone travel to look at a car without first outlining the issues regardless how minor.

I would prefer to get the opportunity to speak to someone about the car before they potientially have a preconceived notion that the car is a heap, thereby wasting my time with low ball offers.
I'm very realistic in the price I think. Advertised for €775 but happy to take anything over €600. I'm certain if someone is genuinely interested in this type of car, if they come see it they'll buy it!

NCT till March 2020, bit of tax, €1250

Could be worth a shot at a grand, would make the tax a bit bearable

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,124 ✭✭✭W123-80's

    I'd love it!
Buy it and tax for a year for circa 2.5K
Waft around for a year in total bliss.
    Sell for €750
Assuming no major mechanical issues total cost €1,750 + fuel for a year in an S class

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,088 ✭✭✭✭BonnieSituation

That is lovely. I'm definitely thinking of doing something like that come the new year W123. It's a solid plan tbf really.

    What could possibly go wrong.

Fuel consumption in a S280 is substantial. S320 is much better. Still a nice car for punto money though.

Sure you're paying that anyway regardless of motor.

    Same as tyres, servicing etc.
It wouldn't have a huge impact on my insurance, but I guess its a factor if considering an S class as your daily!!

I've been watching this and it has dropped from €2k in the last few weeks. Cheeky offer of €8/900 would take it I'd say. These are lovely barges

Rough and ready 130 bhp A6 with NCT till 2020, €750 but I'd bet on €500 most likely driving this away

I saw a set of those alloys on adverts there at the start of the year go for €450

If you get 250 quid off that car from Bill you should negotiate Brexit.

is that a steep price for the mileage? that car was up before or has been since and hasnt sold and I think it was the same price, i don't think the nct is that long although it looks like it'd pass, probably off putting to buyers, no idea what the 4x4 does for it terms of maintenance and reliability? some interior pics would be nice.
Was also a gold mk1 octavia a few pages back too, thought it sold, but it's back up for sale but at a reduced price.
that saab is niiice! be a shame to leave it in the rain, wonder how it fared aftwr 5 years parked up, amazed it passed, one pic seems to show a rusted disc.
I was even tempted by a lowish mileage mk3 Laguna as it is starting to grow on me in looks, and I heard they're reliable.

Only other one on Donedeal is €6500, albeit a year newer. They seem to hold their value pretty well, so I’d say that one is probably a bit too cheap but the mileage will be off putting. I have no idea what they’re actually like to own and/or drive though. They’re popular as first responder ambulances anyway!

For the life of the gearbox, sure... AFAIR it uses a 6 speed Aisin.
