Early out of work for a steady endurance 90mon spin. I was so looking forward to it all day long given the weather.

I picked the wrong route, left at wrong time and met any amount of traffic, meh...
    still good to brighter evenings....

54km around the North County. Chilly enough. Wish I wore the jersey that I had on yesterday, and vice versa.

Went up Howth head yesterday and today, up through the village and down. My first times this year, which I'm a bit ashamed of! Both days were amazing though, gorgeous weather, little wind and the perfect temperature.

50 km. Santry Ballyboughal, Oldtown and back. Rear derailleur was giving me jip and I can't adjust it for the life of me.

    Lovely morning for it

Snap...I was out at 09:15 Santry, Knocksedan, Ballyboughal but took a right after Keoghs looped back around where Dennigans is and St. Margaret's and Santry...nearly got killed outside Aramex by a 40ft truck:eek:

Train from Connolly to Portadown, back along the canal to Newry, onto Omeath, over the Windy Gap to Dundalk and on to Clogherhead and Drogheda.

About 105 KM all in. Highly recommend it.

    Map of route is here.

Canal to Newry is gorgeous and dead quiet, some local access, met 2 cars in total. Excellent surface, interesting history, plenty of information boards.

Canal entrance is 200m from train station in Portadown.

Greenway from Newry out to Omeath is closed for another 2 weeks as they are testing the river bed in preparation for a possible new bypass.

Plenty of services in towns on the way.

Enterprise train has bike compartment in a Guards van which is usually at the station end of the platform in Connolly.

Dublin - Portadown was €14.99, Drogheda to Dublin was almost the same !(??)

    Bikes are free.

Alternative would be Greenway from Omeath to Carlingford and around the peninsula via Greenore to Dundalk.
Or cycle to Greenore, ferry to Greencastle and back to Newry via Warrenpoint.

77 kilometres, drimnagh, tallaght, brassington, around the lakes, and back.
A lovely day for it, no breeze, probably a bit too much, too soon for me, but a beautiful part of the country.
    I had forgotten two things
1 how for it is around the lakes
    2 how hilly it is

Loved every minute, and will probably pay for it on Sunday.

First commute of the year - Dundrum-Drogheda, usual R132, appoximately 58k, average 22-23 kmph. Legs jelly, back sore, feels like I am back to square one over winter. Oh well, I have six months to build it all back up before winter comes in again.

Maybe a cycle south this year instead of north for the holiday Positron?

Speaking for the R132 I saw some people with numbers pinned on running it earlier, had to google when I got home. Seems they are doing an Atlas run 173km Dublin to Belfast.

Ah that's what it was, I was wondering. Saw someone walking near Cock Tavern, and another further up at AppleGreen and two more near Southgate. Everyone looked in their 50s or over. Fair play, 173 kms!! Something to aim for in about 10 years!! :o

Quick 47km spin this morning, averaged just over 30km/h but it was quite flat. Only passed one other cyclist in shorts, loads out in winter gear.

Was it me?? I had shorts but gloves, everyone else in full tights. Wasnt that cold...

60k out from dublin, lap the gap via ballinascorney and kippure estate, back in via featherbeds and stocking lane. Was away early so roads were quiet, but was some amount of bike traffic going up stocking lane as i was coming down at half 9 - great morning for it.

Nah, I was out around NCD. Loads of people out in full gloves and leggings, spotted a few in overshoes too. Was 13 degrees at noon avoiding to the car.

Knew I should've gone mountain biking today. Coming down Cruagh road nearly got wiped out by a car overtaking another cyclist on the first left hand bend you come to as you start climbing after the short descent. Car completely on my side of the road. Luckily for me I always take that corner wide due to it's negative camber.
Couldn't believe the amount of people heading over the feather beds in just shorts and a jersey. Temps up there were in single digits and that's before you take shaded roads and downhill sections into account. I was well wrapped up and still found it chilly up there.

Nice spin out west this morning, grand and mild, shorts and no gloves, bit drizzly in spots but calm... 63km @ 28km avg

    110km in fabulous Spring weather.

Unfortunately there were 2 deliberate close passes, the drivers on both instances pointing at the cycle lanes (which was either a cobbled village path or else filled with people on family rides).

The first was on open road (70kph limit) with clear view for several hundred meters, an easy overtake. The second was entering a village. The driver followed me through a junction, right up my ass because there was a car approaching and he had to accelerate to make it through in time. I offered him a very firm hand gesture.

Heart is still racing from the last close pass. What the **** is wrong with people.

Actually I did a recount and it was 4 in total. Nice. New record

105 Km from Edgeworthstown to Ballinacarrigy and along the canal to Maynooth, train home from there.

Plenty out cycling and walking, chilly enough at times, the sun was never out for long enough. Pint and sandwich in Mary Lynchs.

136 km at the Stephen Roche Atlantic Challenge, super spin very well organised. Much better organised and supported by locals in Kerry.

Weather was perfect , God dam weather last week was horrible and I was a bit worried but perfect .....

A guy came off quite badly over a wall, I was talking to ambulance driver later and she said he would be ok thank goodness , looked bad ....

Living in Kerry 20 years and climbed nearly every hill except connorpass so was great ...

    Very well organised indeed ..

Kerry and Tralee in particular is better set up to handle events that size. Talked to a few locals after and they were curious about it but very pleased to see it there. I think it could be one for the calendar going forward.

Here's a photosphere I took at the top of the Connor Pass which wasn't too bad a climb at all. I found the big long drags after Dingle much harder.

I saw the ambulance at that crash too. It was at a sharp right bend I think after a fast descent. Hope the guy is okay. Was passed by a few ambulances actually.

Heading towards Snowtown. Went up that after as was feeling good and got a 2nd best time. Was with a guy who always beats me on the hills, but today I beat him for the first time ever.

Same. Decided to go out for a spin over lunch given the sunshine coming in my office window and hit the first hail stones on the back road to Tibradden, followed by glorious sunshine on Tibradden, followed by far worse hail stones coming down Cruagh. Shout out to the guy in the lorry that patiently followed me down Cruagh at a lame pace in the crap weather without attempting any silly passes, many very decent drivers out there too. I looked like I'd got measles when I got back in :)

i think i managed to escape the worst of it, but did get my timing spectacularly wrong and headed out into a 5 minute downpour of hail. and it was sticky wet stuff, not the sort that bounces off you.

6am Tuesday Tabata turbo which was awful then a 10 cycle to work when I got hailed on, not a good start to to the day.

Left work and spent far too long in LBS waffling forgetting I had to get a key cut, dash to woodies then got hailed on again.

No spare to cut my key so got soaked a second time for no good reason. Ah well.

Not used the commuting bike since the freehub went a few weeks ago, only round the garden with the kids. Jumped on this morning to find that as soon as I exert any pressure on the pedals, it starts skipping. After 2 km, turned back to get the other bike. That was hung up in the shed with no wheels, and could I get the rear wheel in? Lots of swearing later, I removed the QR skewer and managed to fit the wheel.
All this faff made me 30 minutes late for work, and I need to go back to the LBS with the freehub problem...
