The show is completely different with Susan Keogh presenting. First we don't have that irritating "I.I.I.I.I.I.I.... a-a-a-a-and... th th th th thanks" thing that Kelly does. I think now that this is not a speech impediment, but more a lack of willingness to wait for the other person to finish speaking before attempting to interrupt. Second, with Susan presenting the other person's views become more important than your own. Everything about Ciara Kelly is about HER opinions, and how she can ram it down your throat. She has no interest in other people's opinions.

If they replaced her permanently that would be a great forward move for Newstalk, but it is unlikely to happen. We can only hope that she opens her big mouth and slanders somebody else, like she did with Dr Stewart. But I can envisage the radio being powered off between 12pm and 2pm for the foreseeable future.

…..plus Susan reads out texts from listeners and she has not ONCE started with " Hi Susan"
Every single text that Ciara Kelly reads out seems to start with "Hi Ciara". Amazing isn't it. If you were texting or tweeting a show would you really bother or have the time to say "Hi Ciara" "Hi Sean" "Hi Ivan" "Hi Pat"?
    No way.
Its blissful listening this week :)

I think the stand ins voice is so dull it would put you to sleep.

Ciara might interject a bit to much but this one is just asking questions off her script with no reaction one way or the other.

I think that's a bit harsh on Susan Keogh but she is a bit boring. She filled in for Yates before and it was the same. Newstalk want opinionated presenters because that separates them from Rte and that's fine with me. I don't need to always agree with them but I prefer it to neutral style of presenting.

I don't know about you but I usually say hello when contacting someone I don't constantly converse with. Especially by text. I would think it's polite to do so. I would guess a lot of presenters don't read that part.

Exactly. Nobody else does it.....not Sean Moncrieff, Ivan, Pat K, Tubridy, Duffy, Darcy...….

If we are listening to the Ciara Kelly Show its obvious the texts are for the show. I don't tweet, but when you're tweeting do you really put "hi Ciara/Mary/John" on every tweet? .... I doubt it

Yes, I believe men can be feminists if you know what feminist is.
if so you will be completely oblivious to hoe bored men and lots of decent women
Being a feminist would make me oblivious how?

Also, I contest your logic that non-feminist women are "decent" (whatever that means?)
are bored with the constant looking to be offended / moaning of feminists
You're bored with 50% of society wanting to be treated equally? Well that's tough **** for you isn't it?
    - have female friends and enjoy giving out about feminism around them too . Feminists think all women think like them - thankfully they dont
I don't think you know what feminism is. I suggest you take the time to educate yourself.

But don't you say that of all women, goochy, what with you being the biggest feminist on the Radio forum. :pac:

Finucane does that every week as well "Hi Marian". It's completely disingenuous, and should not be allowed. The texts should be read out as they are sent in, not embellished with the branding of the presenter. And these same people criticize Trump for calling them "fake news".

Do you have any evidence that people aren't texting "Hi [whoever]..."?

50 % of pop. might be woman but remember that doesnt mean they are all feminists and the problem with feminists is they only want equality where it suits them and they go out of their way to be offended - i am nearly becoming as boring as freudian slippers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,624 ✭✭✭✭meeeeh

There is nothing more tedious than someone banging on about feminists in a topic that has nothing to do with feminists. It's almost like the subject was never discussed before and the best place to discuss it is a thread about show that has female presenter. I'm all for people talking about their frustrations but it's a bit boring wgen even their frustrations are so predictable.

You don't listen closely enough to Ciara. She shouts from the roof tops that 51 perfect of the population are female. Women are in the majority! How this wins an argument is beyond me but she uses this information as part of her arsenal in debates

    I'd say that husband suffers.

I hear on the rumour mill that Ciara is spending the week standing on a box on Bray main street shouting out her views to the passing public.

Interview with the friend of Laura Brennan today was excellent. Think her name was Veronica, she spoke very well while still obviously suffering at the loss of her friend.

I'm not a fan of Susan Keogh by any means but I thought she did really, really well when Veronica was starting to dwell on 'regret' of not seeing Laura in hospital this week by cutting her off and saying she didn't need to think like that.

Its called being a feminist - sounds like hard work - Ciara will give herself a heart attack someday she has so much anger inside her .
saw picture of her husband - opposites attract - looked like a harmless fella

    Again, I'm not angry.

EDIT: Wait you like like 360 posts, the vast majority of which are in radio... what, in my 18,267 posts and 12 years as a poster here indicates I'm "angry all the time"?

Honestly, believing that women should have equal rights to men is not at all hard work, it's just a belief. We don't all meet on Sundays to bend the knee to a magic sky god or anything; just kind of think it'd be pretty cool if my girlfriend wasn't subjected to unequal treatment and pay just because of her sex.

Chances are they are doing different jobs - never heard feminists making logical / valid comparisons - the fact Rte 1's female ex political reporter sued rte because she was moved to another dept says it all.

their contract says they can be moved after a few years but she couldnt take that - if she had of been replaced by a woman she probably wouldnt have minded - think shes writing books now - cant see her getting a job in media again.

good to see Sarah Mc Inerney off the tv and radio

    https://abovethelaw.com/2018/03/another-biglaw-firm-reports-dismal-gender-pay-gap/

I have first-hand experience of it in my firm - I know for a fact that a female co-worker who is at the same "level" as me both has a salary that is around 10% lower and frequently gets a lower bonus... in fact her 2018 bonus was not insignificantly lower than mine despite higher billable hours (although in fairness my firm does appreciate that I travel a lot).

There is plenty of evidence in the legal, medical and corporate worlds that men and women doing the same jobs are not equally paid.

I received a mail in work yesterday telling us about an accelerated development program. It's one of many programs they've introduced exclusively for women in the company and designed to get them into senior roles ahead of their male colleagues.

Yes they are that blatant about it.

I wouldn't mind but my last 3 bosses have been women and my last 2 hires were women.

And here we are, posting on a thread about a woman who was a GP and followed her dream to became a radio presenter. A woman who's done very well for herself and good luck to her.

Please spare us this nonsense about unequal treatment and pay.

here here , can never understand how it is the professional women who bang on about womens rights - not housewives who have more reason to ?

They want loads more women to become doctors etc. but maybe other women dont want or are not able to be doctors
