You don’t see many school buses in dublin in fairness. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen one.
Most school buses are just ordinary mini-buses and coaches hired out for the school run. So, you wouldn't necessarily recognise them.

I refer you back to my post #3027. I only comment when there is something I disagree with. Not for "silly reasons".
I listen most days, apart from today commenting about this "live and unscripted" gig, haven't actually posted in ages. Cheers ;)

Why don't you comment about something you agree with?

Why must it always be negative?

She meant American-style and I've never seen one in Ireland either.

So... nothing to do with political correctness then? Gotcha.

I have noticed this myself lately and a few on here use it fairly liberally.
Being "un-PC" is just a new trendy way of saying bad things and justifying it.

It'd be great to be able to have an opinion, someone been able to counter it without "tagging" each opinion so the idiots listening/watching know who's who.

Totally. But on the other hand, it's silly when someone calls out one's opinion as idiotic, racist, etc. (whatever it is) without the retort being "well you're just PC" or "PC gone mad" or some other deflection.

This is not aimed at anybody in this thread or anything particularly said in this thread except to explain why I dislike PC, non PC nonsense. I'm married to one of the most un PC people I know or know of. I find it seriously entertaining but there is wit and intelligence behind it. And he gets away with some outrageous stuff. What people now tend to call being non-pc is just being stupid. Non PC lable is used to give validity to an opinion which should be challenged because it is ridiculous not because it sends a few 'snowflakes' into pc meltdown. And yes I deeply oppose deplatforming but that doesn't mean every nonsense should be unchallenged.

I am not the only one who comments negatively on this thread. You are right I generally only comment on stuff that annoys me about the show. And I don't do it for silly reasons. I am certainly not a daily contributor here for the sake of it. Before yesterday my previous comment was on 7th March - on a show that's only every single day that is hardly excessive?
It is MY prerogative to comment when I disagree with something, whether you like it or not. I am not in breach of any laws in that regard.

Funnily enough today I agreed with Ciara Kelly on nits! Bring back the NIT nurse :D

A Gentle Reminder (but also a warning)

The Radio Forum is equally welcoming of positive comments here as of critical ones.

As has been pointed out countless times before, it's in nobody's interest for this Forum to become a haven of only positive reviews - or of negative ones.

Nobody has to defend themselves for holding any particular view (again, within the confines of the charter).

Speak your mind, but do so by abiding by the charter. That includes respecting others whose opinions you disagree with.

The lady on today filling in for Ciara was excellent. Very well informed and didn't cut across the contributors.

    An upgrade in my opinion.

I can't listen to the show.
Not one guest on the show can get through a sentence without being interrupted.
Ciara will ask them a question and then interrupt them with her opinion or answer her own question.

Ciara is a harriden. A contemptible screechbag full of populist rhetoric and misinformed ill-conceived waffle. She has a media profile built from the blubber of the overfed and exploited through the manifestation of telly fat-shaming. She's brought that ill-thought insensitive immeasurably stupid half witted analysis and opinion to her radio show. The audibly distinct sigh Pat Kenny gives each time he has to promote her show is telling. Perhaps the most telling thing one might hear on Newstalk.

Susan Keogh so easy to listen to - my stress levels are much lower today - never noticed Pats reaction to the show - dont like his views on Trump but he has no time for feminism

I tuned in to hear what the new presenter was like, and to be fair I could actually listen to her.

Is she in for the week? Might give her a listen tomorrow.

Susan Keogh is a great presenter, listened to the show today very different show altogether she doesn't have a chip on her shoulder.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 611 ✭✭✭redbuck

Its like a breath of fresh air actually having a competent presenter who doesn't interject while the contributors are talking.

Hopefully this is an audition for a permanent replacement.

wonder how Ciara being off - will she find some other outlet for her views while off or just hold it in till shes back- cant believe show was on Virgin media tonight show

...biggest difference is that Susan Keogh actually listens and doesn't make every single topic about her. She doesn't interrupt, interject, shout or rant. She just listens and manages the show in a really professional way. What's the difference between the two presenters? Ego.

Those who don't like opinionated presenters are possibly listening to the wrong station.

Susan Keogh is the presenter of Weekend Breakfast so I very much doubt she will replace Ciara Kelly. Not just yet anyway considering Lunchtime is achieving highest listenership numbers for that time slot.

I find Susan Keogh grand but I think she is better covering more serious topics and when she can prepare herself well. Her interview with Pat Finucane's son couple of weeks ago was very good.

You actually appreciate how poorly Ciara is pervorming in the role when there's a competent replacement in her spot.

Paul Williams was pushed out and I think Ciara is performing as substantardly as he was so it may be time to go back to medicine for the good doctor.

as long as they replace Ciara with another woman - would be like the RTE NEWS political correspondant thing again - claiming discrimination

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,624 ✭✭✭✭meeeeh

    Not gonna happen boys:
However, Patricia Monahan says a lack of female representation on Newstalk “hasn’t been true for a long time now”, adding, “We’ve Ciara Kelly at lunchtime now playing a blinder and has a bigger audience than we ever had in that slot. And we’ve Andrea Gilligan on from 6am.

freudian slippers assume youre a feminist ? if so you will be completely oblivious to hoe bored men and lots of decent women are bored with the constant looking to be offended / moaning of feminists - have female friends and enjoy giving out about feminism around them too . Feminists think all women think like them - thankfully they dont

The show is completely different with Susan Keogh presenting. First we don't have that irritating "I.I.I.I.I.I.I.... a-a-a-a-and... th th th th thanks" thing that Kelly does. I think now that this is not a speech impediment, but more a lack of willingness to wait for the other person to finish speaking before attempting to interrupt. Second, with Susan presenting the other person's views become more important than your own. Everything about Ciara Kelly is about HER opinions, and how she can ram it down your throat. She has no interest in other people's opinions.

If they replaced her permanently that would be a great forward move for Newstalk, but it is unlikely to happen. We can only hope that she opens her big mouth and slanders somebody else, like she did with Dr Stewart. But I can envisage the radio being powered off between 12pm and 2pm for the foreseeable future.

I think the stand ins voice is so dull it would put you to sleep.

Ciara might interject a bit to much but this one is just asking questions off her script with no reaction one way or the other.
