Fleetwood has gone birdie eagle, man is in serious form. Surely due a win.

Talk about getting a fast start when it's needed

McGinley just said he's had 14 holes in one, wonder how that compares to other pros? Sounds impressive to me!

The drop zone is more fearsome than the tee shot imo. It's at that distance that you can so easily over or under hit. Land your ball any farther than half way on and you're very likely to be having another go. As Tiger found.

DZ is mown so the shot is in to the grain, too. Makes you wonder why Tiger didn’t just re-tee. Big enough target for these guys from 134 (or at least should be!)!

Will they have another cut tomorrow considering so many look like they’ll make the cut?

Great to see Rory playing so well. Driver off 18th was completely the wrong choice though. Great leaderboard, hopefully will be a good weekend's golf.

It's clear Rory worked hard on his iron play all week. It cost him the tournament last week. I don't see any way he can be stopped this week, his whole game is close to it's best.

I believe the weather is turning against him over the weekend also still alot of question marks about his performance on a Sunday.

Well I don't agree about the Sunday thing. His putting hasn't been good enough pretty much his whole career but he certainly has that sorted now.
You dont win multiple majors with a Sunday issue.

Interesting watch imo. I'd say Li particularly will be fuming as he missed the cut

Yes, they will. 80 players made the cut. They have a 3rd round cut when there are more than 78 players.

Why did they reference the change in rules, is that not just a regular lateral drop?

I thought yellow hazard you previously had to go back behind the hazard, so this relief was previously only applicable to red hazard. But the new rules confuse me greatly, so I’m not sure.

Old rules you had to drop at spot if entry, so for a right hander it would make no sense to drop there. New rules give the club length, so could have dropped there and saved some shots

Yellow line, back as far as you want keeping hole and point of entry in line. Due to the angle of the walkway he could go back a few yards and drop in the middle of the path

Yeah but that wasn’t the point they were making, they were dropping at point of entry and a club length in towards the middle

FFS no they weren’t. Watch it again. They were measuring from a tee stuck in the ground in line with the point of entry. He actually turns to the camera and says he could go back along the path

Todays "coverage" is rubbish. All they're showing is interviews and flashbacks to previous tournaments and stats mixed in with the occasional shot from Tiger.

I dont even know why i'm bothering to have the TV turned on*

Will you relax FFS  I deleted the post about 2 mins after I posted it. And anyway, that club length in from the hazard is new, with the old rules going back in line would have been the only option of the two. FFS.

You could always go back in line with the point the ball last crossed the margin of the hazard and the flag. The difference this year is that you have an additional club length relief area(half moon as I like to think of it) from that point. So in this case, he could drop further out to the players right and have an easier chip.

Same case with Phil 2 weeks ago... hits first OB. Now instead of having to drop at the same point and replay his shot, he now has a relief area of one club length which got him clear of the fence.

Perhaps it's an unpopular opinion, but I find the fawning over Pepperell and how much of a "breath of fresh air" he is extremely irritating.

Completely disagree. He is the complete opposite of most of the PC drones on tour. Follow him on twitter and see why.

McIlroy. Just a sumptuous golf shot, pure poetry.
