    According to The Journal "Activists and Unions"(doesn't say which Unions) are calling for a mass walkout at 3pm this Intl Women's Day to demonstrate/call for:

    An end to gender-based violence and harassment;
    Closure of the gender pay gap;
    An end to precarious conditions in work and housing;
    Solidarity with the struggle for abortion rights in the North.


    The activist is Ruth Coppinger.


    A bit of a mish-mash of objectives but enough variety to draw a figure worth reporting about or to justify sending a photographer along. Safe to say i won't be downing tools to support them. What about you, TGC?

    Just a random observation, not very important:
    I was listening to Newstalk there and a woman was talking about noisy people on public transport.
    She said she tends to go up the people and asks them to turn down loud music.
    She says her partner tends to dislike her doing that. The presenter asked why and she said "he's the man, so I suppose he'll have to deal with any consequences."

    Not, strictly speaking, discrimination, though it is possible there is some positive discrimination.

    San Diego-Based Group Wins U.S. Suit: Male-Only Draft Unconstitutional

    Even though America hasn’t had a military draft since 1973, men — but not women — are required to register with the Selective Service.
    A federal judge Friday said that must change — calling the system unconstitutional but not requiring women 18-25 to register*.

    U.S. District Judge Gray H. Miller in Houston agreed with the San Diego-based National Coalition for Men and granted its request for summary judgment in a class action suit.

    That said, i wouldn't accept a draft to go liberate some Country from its oil reserves or to install some puppet leader.

    I’d be in no rush to be drafted either. But it’s a question of equality. Also if there are women in the pool, the chance of any individual male being drafted should be reduced or they might reduce the age range. There are lots of women in paid positions in the military and indeed in Ireland, I think women are not excluded from any paid positions.

    I have a friend who served in the Irish Army and the females got out of a lot of duties and manoeuvers (however it's spelled) by telling the NCO they had cramps or period-related trouble. A handy card to play.

    Well, it's the most common one isn't it - playing the "I'm a woman!" card when faced with the prospect of dealing with the consequences of one own actions. I've seen it so many times I've lost count.



    As for the "well being" of her partner, it's not just that she can't give a passing p1ss about it - she's clearly very conscious about the fact she might very well be actively putting him in danger...and she's almost proud of it.



    That guy should get aways from her ASAP.

    "University College Cork has developed a new campaign for International Women’s Day where women put forward other women to highlight their achievements.

    Balance would be doing the same for men for International Men's Day, but I don't recall anything similar and doubts they will do it.

    Seems pretty sexist to me, not to mention nonsensical. If half the population gets it, it's not much of a priority. And if a woman is travelling with a man, is she supposed to thumb her nose at him and rush ahead to take her "gender priority"?

    International women's Day in 2019 in the West is about as necessary as international fast food day for obese people.

    Women have never had it so good. It's ridiculous that feminists are out there pretending like they live in some sort of oppressive society. I'm perplexed that society isn't waking up to that fact. How much longer will this mass delusion continue.

    So...please help me understand: I've seen a poster for that "If she can't see it, she can't be it" campaign while at the gym; it's the one that depicts a little girl watching on a youngish lady playing some field sport.

    I was frankly positively impressed by the message, as I saw it as an invitation to WOMEN to be positive, active and actually set an example...an extremely well communicated message, delivered in a non-divisive way that would basically gain the support of anybody with half a brain.

    Which begs the question - have I got it wrong?

    Course you haven't got it wrong: what would have given you that idea?
    A very nice ad, timely, apt, and well placed. Let's hope it succeeds.
