Welcome newbie. That's great that you've escaped the morning sickness I'm walking around heaving at any strong smell...so attractive 😳😂

Welcome to the crew Newbie2019, great that you’ve managed to avoid the morning sickness. Onwards and upwards from here :)

We went for our scan on Friday in OLOL Drogheda. All was good, normal size. Our GP gave a date of July 2nd and the hospital have said July 3rd. Both of our mothers are diabetic so my partner has to go for a glucose test in the new year. My partner has been having very bad morning sickness and nausea but both her mother and sister were the same on their pregnancies so it had been expected. Any tips or tricks for overcoming this? Or is it a case of just having to let it run its course?

Morning sickness is the worst. I find if I let myself get hungry before eating I tend to get sick right after. Find it easier to eat little and often, usually something like porridge, flapjacks, brown bread toasted. Also I tend not to drink at the same time as eating as it seems to come up again. Seems worse in the morning as I haven't been eating all night so have something with protein and carbs to keep me going. Also found this ginger cordial which I have with fizzy water. For some reason that seems to work for me. If it gets really bad you can get anti nausea tablets from the doctor. Hope she feels better soon!

Agree with the above, little and often! I'm almost 14 weeks now and still a bit nauseous but nowhere near as bad as I was and no longer vomiting. I've been taking 50mg of vitamin B6 every day since I found out I was pregnant (as recommended by my GP) as it's supposed to take the edge off. Still taking it.

If it's very bad and she's vomiting many times a day she really should get something for it as she could get dehydrated. Doctors can prescribe Cariban (which is essentially vitamin B6 and an antihistamine) amongst other medications. Hope she feels better.

Hope we all had a good Christmas?

Milestone day today for us - I’m into the second trimester. I haven’t felt the last 14 weeks fly by so hoping that continues for the rest of the pregnancy.

Had to buy some maternity jeans the other day too. There’s not a lot of a selection out there :(

I’m 11+5, and have had a second scan so can at least start sharing the good news!
I have some clothes from previous pregnancies, but I’m going to buy a few new bits soon!

  • Registered Users Posts: 365 ✭✭Minnie2017

My preggo jeans were in bits by the end of it all so invested in some new ones. I was still wearing the maternity jeans when little man was 3 months old.

    Not much in the sales

Where's the best place to buy maternity clothes? My last pregnancy was 9 years ago so out of the loop a bit.

I bought a few bits from new look when I had my first, but I haven’t looked at what they have at the moment. I’ve gotten nice jeans from Debenhams, and H&M isn’t bad either I think!

Great thanks Jlm I don't have a noticeable bump now it's just flabby looking. I'm actually joining a gym next week they said they'd do me up a specific program being pregnant and all😂 I really can't afford to put on much weight in fact I'm going to try lose some weight please god

Minnie we have a similar due date, I'm 14 weeks this weekend too. How are you feeling? I feel a bit like my symptoms have gone and I'm not expanding at the same rate as I was a few weeks ago. So hopefully that's normal! I was in maternity jeans a few weeks ago! It's my second and my little girl is just 14 months. I'm going to try get a few maternity bits in the sales, mostly work stuff. I didn't get much the last time so by the end they were wrecked! Going to check out h&m now.

Due July 3, it'll be my girlfriend's second, my first. Morning sickness only a handful of times and realised it was taking B vitamins on an half-empty stomach that probably caused it. Her last pregnancy went without a hitch but that was 12 years ago, so we're being both optimistic yet cautious.

Hey, I’m very grumpy the past few days. Not sure if I’ve just had enough of being
cooped up or whether it’s hormones. My symptoms are much the same. Still waiting on the second trimester energy burst. it’s my second too, My little boy is 15 months so not much between us.

11 weeks tomorrow and the nausea and food aversions are back with a bang. Am soooo tired too, haven't the energy to do anything. Feeling a bit down too anyone feeling the same way? Happy New year to everyone x

I’m also wrecked, but not in an “I need to sleep way” more of a “I have so much to do, and I never seem to make a dent in it” kind of way. I’m off work until Monday, it would nearly be easier to go to work. My kids are going around like wrecking balls, the whole house looks like it’s been trashed, and trying to sort it out is the most pointless thing ever!
Our tumble dryer is broken too, so there’s laundry in various stages of completion EVERYWHERE! I thought the TV was broken earlier on today, I swear I was nearly at breakdown stage, but thankfully I got that sorted!
On the plus side, I’m nearly 13 weeks, Maybe I’ll get a surge of energy soon!

Happy new year to all, it will be an exciting one!

    Happy New year everyone.

Us july people are coming out of our first trimester now .. does anyone have loads of energy and glossy hair yet ??

I feel quite down and tired to be honest. I know I should be happy and grateful but I feel sad and upset about things a lot.

Maybe being back to work and in a routine will help with that. Fingers crosed

    Happy New Year everybody!

I'm 14 weeks tomorrow and after 2 horrible weeks of sickness with uti and flu I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, Its been a long 1st trimester, I feel like I'm pregnant ages but I know the next few weeks should go pretty quick!

Hopefully you feel better soon, it's such an up and down time, How many weeks are you?

Haha no definitely no glossy hair and definitely no energy here. Still vomiting. Ah no completely understandable feeling like that. This stage can be really hard can't it? Some days when I get up and the non stop feeling pukey and tired makes me really sad and then other days are fine. Then we got all the hormones going on on top of that and worrying. It's all a bit mad but we'll get there! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,062 ✭✭✭Dixie Chick

Oh Lainey you poor thing with a UTI, what can you take for that ? I am very prone to them and am scared to get one.

Infinite Fart, we will indeed get there. I keep saying to myself "It's hormones, it is ok" but then am crying like a baby over anything.

    I am 11 weeks

Unfortunately I had to go on an antibiotic but I read up that having an untreated kidney infection is worse than taking antibiotics so I didn't feel so bad, I'm drinking lots of water and trying my best to reduce my sugar intake.

I think constipation hasnt helped the situation so more fibre for me too.

    Hormones are a joy aren't they 😀

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,062 ✭✭✭Dixie Chick

The constipation is annoying, I am drinking prune juice which is almost killing me.

Hormones are wonderful. Just don't look at me, or talk to me and everything will be fine lol

The 2nd trimester energy and glow hasn’t hit here yet. I too was feeling a bit down the last week and kinda in a slump. I’m hoping being back in work will help.

I am bet up with the tiredness. I am 11 weeks and am so nauseous. Some days I hardly eat anything, which is very unlike me. I am supposed to be following the GD diet but I can't stomach most foods and feel like I have not slept at all most mornings when I wake up. I am as tired waking up as I am going to bed. Having a 13 month old doesn't help. I had a lovely pregnancy last time so am really struggling. Really need it to pass soon.

I'm 11 weeks and the exact same all I've eaten today are olives I've a desperate craving for them but can't eat anything else. The tiredness is horrendous just feel fat and ugly...sorry I sound like a right moan it's not usually like me and am hoping too it passes soon x

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,062 ✭✭✭Dixie Chick

Ye poor things not being able to eat, no wonder the tiredness is so extreme with it.

I do not know how I would cope with a 13 month old right now.. scary thought.

I am obsessed with orange juice at the min. I am drinking way too much of it.

Wife is 14 weeks, apparently hoovering is bad!?! I thought it was a bit if a laugh to get me to do it but I read it a few places online.

Edit: I can't find anything to say it's not safe to Hoover :( I've already gotten out of cleaning the cat litter box as that is a bit unsafe due to the risk of toxoplasmosis but think I'll need solid evidence to get out of this!

I know women who have to rest shouldn't hoover but for a normal pregnancy i can't see anything to say not to hoover. Sadly !!

Hi all, I think I'll join here too, currently about 10+5 weeks pregnant and should be due 27th July. Booking appointment is 22nd of this month and we can't wait for that day to arrive! Husband is very wary of telling anyone before we get to the 12 weeks, my mom guessed a couple of weeks ago! This is our first, so far have been having mild nausea and exhaustion. I really hope i get my energy back in second trimester!!

Congrats NewMom!! I have been assured by many mothers that we will turn a corner soon !! I am just a few days ahead of you with my booking scan next Thursday. I had a private scan Christmas week and told some family and close friends. The way I see it, if something was to go amiss I would not want people to not know. I also think once you get to 8 weeks that the miscarraige changes dip to 3% and less each subsequent week.

Hi NewMom and welcome. I've my booking visit on the 21st and am due on the 24th so just a few days ahead of you:)
Is anyone getting the panorama or harmony tests done? I'm booked into the rotunda next Thursday for the panorama so a bit nervous about that

  • Registered Users Posts: 365 ✭✭Minnie2017

I didn’t bother getting the panorama or harmony done. We kinda figured we’d roll with whatever fate dealt us.

I’m sure they’ll be fine Ziggy, and you’ll get so much extra reassurance from it too. Are you going to find out the gender while you’re at it?

I think it's just cos of my age and previous losses if it comes back clear I'll be finally able to relax a bit.
Think I will actually I've a feeling it's another boy though not sure why.

    Hi all

Happy New Year, got into the second trimester yesterday delighted- nearly everyone knows now need to tell my boss was gonna tell him today but he has called in sick.
All good super tired and struggling to climb a stairs these days. Need to get back to walking and eating healthier- the pounds are piling on. Is anyone doing Slimming World while pregnant.
So finally got my date for my booking scan which is next Thursday- I will be 15 weeks- gotta love Kerry University Hospital. Hope the next few months fly by.

Bought a few maternity items on sale which was great and need to get some bras... otherwise its decluttering and waiting.

    How is everyone?

hi again everyone, and Happy New Year! hopefully the next few weeks will bring a surge of energy for everyone. I'm feeling really worn out and my mood is low..working night shifts doesn't help and my partner works away so I feel I've a lot to contend with, but I'm grateful nonetheless. 2019 is going to be mega busy!

  • Registered Users Posts: 365 ✭✭Minnie2017

That’s mad dove, you’re going for your booking appt next week and I’m going for my second appt.

I’m finding this pregnancy is flying by. I think that’s coz the little lad is keeping me on my toes. I’m having another hormental day today - been on the brink of tears all day and feeling very meh. Which is unlike me.

Can i ask what style of maternity wear people buy? (I suppose it's mostly personal preference!!) I was in Dunnes yesterday in Stephen's Green and they had a black and very dark blue pairs of over bump skinny jeans for 25 euros so i picked up a pair for later on. My own jeans are starting to be a little tight and am wondering do people buy the elasticated waist jeans and wear those for a few months or wear the over bump. I'm so confused! I went into mothercare to see if they had the waistband expander thing in stock, they didn't and the lady said they fly out when they do come into stock. Where i work it's casual wear so don't tend to wear trousers etc.

    Hi Newmom

I bought a few jeans over the bump in red herring- they were fab- hopefully they still fit me. Got tracksuit pants in asos- have worn them for last 2 year so need to reinvest.
I went into swamp before Christmas and got this very stretchydress, handy to wear with tights and leggings. I bought a pair of new look black trousers so handy just for work. And I used to wear stretchy dresses (baby no 1) at work so will be reusing them.
If I wear black jeans with a black stretchy top I bought a few coloured blazers (went up a size) and they worked perfectly for any occasion. Maybe I wasnt that fashion forward but was comfortable. I also had a few kimono tops to go with jeans and wore vest tops under them.... Been from Kerry relatively limited with maternity wear...
Telling work on Friday! Finally can breath and get rid of the scarves :p

  • Registered Users Posts: 17 NewMom19

Thanks a million Dove2011, just had a look at debenhams there and good reductions still on some of their jeans still in my size - yay!

I have only told my line manager and the boss in work as i had to have a H&S risk assessment done, my boss said most people here wait until they are about 16 weeks to tell, ha! I reckon it will be fairly obvious by then!! I'd say a few people are suspicious anyway, I can't stomach coffee any more and have been drinking various teas the last 2 months, plus not drinking at the work Christmas party. Anyway, as you say, it will be nice not having to wear scarves and big cardigans after i tell them!

I got a few maternity leggings and tops in Little woods, must have a look in Debenhams.
Is there such a thing as maternity knickers? My belly is starting to hang over my regular pants it's awful looking 👀😳

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,818 ✭✭✭jlm29

Had to buy a bigger pair of work trousers today- I’m pretty sure I wore the other ones until at least 22 weeks the last time -gah! I have maternity ones, but they seemed a bit massive when I tried them on a few weeks ago, though I think it might be that they’ve got a much wider leg, so they seemed huge.
I really need to leave the Christmas eating habits behind me, or I’ll be positively ginormous by July

Last time round I got great maternity drench knicks in H&M but they don’t have them anymore. If you spot any good maternity undercrackers that don’t look like granny pants let me know.

I have the bump hang too and they’re starting to press against my section scar which isn’t the comfiest
