It should be able to, you can install Silk browser app on it

Why buy the £34.99 4K Version when an 8 year old TV won't be close to that Resolution. You could buy the standard Fire Stick.

    Sure, but:

    1. the 4k is future proof, and 4k TVs are getting very cheap. Bought myself a half decent 55" LG 4k HDR TV this time last year for €500. I paid more for a "HD ready" 32" TV a decade before that

    2. the 4k will hold its value better

    3. the 4k has built in Alexa voice control

Surely the above is worth the extra tenner? :D

Got mine today, the kids and herself are going to love it :D

Yea, it has a web browser so this is easy. I travel a lot and use it wherever I can. You don’t need Amazon Prime at all for this to work. You can sideload anything you like that’s android based. You’ll never watch Hotel tv again :)

The only problem is when a hotel have locked down the hotel tv so you can’t select the HDMI input. Usually a quick google of the tv model will sort that out though.

Yeah wish all hotels were easy to crack, had an lg one in a holiday inn in the UK that after trying various codes only volume would work.
Eventually got the tv back working but no hdmi source

Does it have to be delivered to a UK address e.g. Parcel motel? Amazon won't ship to my Irish address? Thanks

Yes because it doesn't work properly in Ireland because of geo blocking so you have to use a UK address.

It actually works perfectly, you can sign up to Irish Prime Video also on it if you want but Amazon won't deliver to Ireland for some reason.

Have you used it? Last I checked (a few months ago) Prime Video Ireland doesn't work, only UK Prime video.

I'm pretty sure I did - I've actually changed over to Prime UK since as the Irish library was brutal.

To change over to UK all you had to do is contact support and tell them you are based in the UK and they changed it for you. There was a thread on here somewhere on how to do it but it was very straightforward, you just needed to supply them with any UK postcode I think and that was it.

Yeah, it's easy. This is pretty much how I changed to UK via chat:

    ---
Me: I like to switch my account to UK.
Support: are you based in the UK?
    Me: yes.
Support: thank you. Your account is now set to UK.
    ---

    That was it...

I tried to get them to switch me to UK account yesterday and they wouldn't do it. Said I could only work the worldwide primevideo on my laptop or phone, not using firestick and told me how to cancel my prime account:(

What I did was set up a new address on my account. I basically used their own address in Viaduct way in London as my new address. Just be careful you don't order anything to it :D

It's still hit and miss with Prime. Now, I don't have Prime anymore but I use my Firestick for other apps that aren't to be mentioned here. :pac:

Is it easy to set up it and use a US account, watch American Amazon prime?

I got the stick because of this deal, just picked it up at PM.

What kind of Internet speed would you need to run this. Unfortunately we are on a fairly crappy DSL connection that tops out at 3 to 5 Meg depending?

You'd need a SmartDNS or VPN for that, but yes easy to setup.

So just setup an Amazon.com Prime account, change the DNS settings and BOOM I'm in?

    It works now.
Today I contacted Amazon support through help page -> contact us -> devices -> fire stick -> prime video.

I was chatting with the support guy, told him I am in Ireland and I cannot watch on the Fire stick the same content I am watching on other devices using Prime Video application.

He changed a regional setting @ their end and now Prime video works on fire stick.

It was a 5 minutes chat.

I highly recommend you to try it.

I know that switching your account's region to the UK works - provided they do it for you which it seems they won't always do. But my point still remains that Prime Video Ireland doesn't work on the Firestick, only UK Prime Video. This is obviously a restriction of the device's software and why it isn't sold in Ireland.

Purchased one of these in the sale and it's great. Been watching US Prime. I also love that it basically has the freedom of the android box. Makes the Apple TV totally obsolete for me, and also makes it look waaay overpriced.

Currys had them on black Friday evening.

They were looking 90 feckin euro in Curry's I informed them they were retailing for 35 sterling on Amazon then walked away laughing.

Ordered one of these too as have used the first gen one in the past & found it great - especially as i can't install apps directly on my ten year old Samsung TV (soon to be replaced).
Any recommendations for Apps to load into it?
I used Kodi extensively for a while but the amount of hassle finding working streams has put me off it recently.
Netflix is getting most use at the minute but interested to hear what other people are using.
