I always have a little apprehension when i see a brand new "newbie" on the range. I don't just mean new to a range setting i mean new to guns, everything. They wantt to have fun and you want them to enjoy themselves, but your heart would be in your mouth with some of the things they say, want to do, etc. because while it might seem fun from the movies, it's really not safe.

Of course there are the rare few that you simply cannot help. As the saying goes "You can't teach stupid". Of course this also applies, and sometimes more, to "experienced" lads that think they know it all or have been around so long as to think they don't need to maintain a high level of range protocol/safety.

Case in point.

Anyone remember "The Bush tucker man", i think it was shown on RTE before they went even crapper then they were before. I always found it good, much better than the rubbish that passes for outdoors/wildlife programmes now.

Seeing as the end of the first world war is now almost 100 years ago, i have been re-watching this excellent bbc series, "The Great War" from 1964 . Its amazing, how this war started the 1916 uprising, the russian revolution, and the rise of communism, The huge growth of the Usa, leading to it becoming a superpower and of course sowed the seeds for the second world war, and led directly to the world we live in now.

If i were paying 3,500 for a "match" rifle that can only do 1.5" at 100 yards i'd ban it too.
