Laughed out loud at Ken's 'Tony Blairs jet fighters of peace' comment :D

Of course fails to mention that the reason this was happening was because Serbia wouldn't stop pounding the s**t out of civilians in Kosovo.

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.

All political symbols should be kept out of professional sport in my opinion, you have people from all different countries and backgrounds participating so its just asking for trouble.

Agreed but I'm pretty sure the FA got FIFA onside with it by saying it was just to raise money for a charity...

No of course Ken didn't because all western actions are bad in his world. The Serbs were engaged in ethnic cleansing and were commting war crimes.
The sneering at areas of Britain for voting for Brexit and conflating it with abuse McClean has received was more lazy, condescending rubbish.
He really is a lightweight with delusions of grandeur.

I'm all for more Brit bashing. They get off too lightly normally and I don't think he said one thing wasn't true.

I'm pretty sure he's referring to the Beef Tribunal. In 1991 when things were really bad in Russia, the EU paid an Irish company (which was being paid to store beef) to take the beef that was in intervention out, stew it, stick it in cans and send it to Russia. The company decided to sell 10% of this beef to its own customers and replace it with rotten offal. Including beef hearts that were so old they had turned green.

Fintan O' Toole wrote the book on it - "Meanwhile back at the ranch"

I think you will find he has given the 'east' and equally hard time in the past as well. His treatment of RT is one example I can offer.

Wow that's an obscure one. I'm a bit older than Ken and have always kept up with current affairs but that doesn't ring any bells with me.

Anyone know where the full length of that interview with Dunphy can be got? The one where he's is speaking of that England Ireland game when he was a kid! They've taken a few clips from it but that was the longest single extract I've heard from it...

That's from one of the first few episodes of Second Captains I think.

Cheers I'll take a look back through the archives.

Whatever people say about Eamo - he's one of the best story tellers I know.

As far as I remember it was back in their Irish Times days

I don't think that's great comfort to a child with bombs landing all around him and civilians getting killed, Matic was 12 apparently.

I have to agree with Ken on this one, I think more foreign players will look at the history of colonial uk and maybe decide the poppy is not for them.

I don't like David McWilliams. Can anyone tell me if it's worth listening too?

I'm undecided on McWilliams. I used to be an admirer of his work but he does have the aura of someone who is living off past glories. He has been put on a pedestal ever since he rightly predicted the downfall of the economy. In fairness, he got that bang on, and credit to him for doing so, but I'm not a huge fan of his recent stuff. I found the podcast interesting, but also found a lot of flaws in his hypothesis. Def worth a listen though

It depends. Why doesn't he appeal to you? I think he's an intelligent and perceptive enough dude, but he does come across as smug at times, but I can put up with that for the main part because he does have interesting things to say. I wouldn't agree with all of those things, but I don't mind hearing them.

Basically him and Ken agreed on very little, but it was a chummy and civil conversation.

I enjoyed it. Don't necessarily think Ken entirely disagreed with him but posited opposite viewpoints that I think McWilliams argued well enough..

I would agree with Ken though that the lessons of previous wars are being forgotten..

Jaysus lads, David Sneyd was hard to understand at times.

I think David McWilliams interview was great. I think he argued his points very well. Don't think he's been put on a pedestal at all over the years to be honest and doesn't act that way. Check out his interview with blindboy recently, I Like his take on society. Would love to hear Ken critique a Kids book for the craic some time to be honest. His interviewing style can come across at times like he's grilling his guest. Even if he might approve of what they're saying! :D

Yeah he was good, mcdevitt and Ken seem to want Kenny for the Irish job. Could be the right man, who knows, but serious health warning with it coming from two lads who wouldn’t cross the road to watch LOI.

I guess the new book club slot will be sports books only?

Should be good all the same, but I find a lot of sports books to be quite bland and would love if they tried a few non-sports books.
