    ffs polls are fake news

if any "exit-pollster" asked me who i was supporting i'd tell them nothing or tell them a lie
It's true that some would lie to pollsters, particularly when they've voted for the "unpopular" one, but the results are too far out to believe that so many would lie.

Casey getting 3 times the vote of the Sinn Fein candidate would have been laughable 2 weeks ago.

You are free to give your vote to whomever you think would do the best job. In this case that job was representing the Irish State.

If you think that the country would be best served by someone who happened to blurt out some stupid statement in an interview then that is your choice.

If Casey really believed in campaigning on the substance of the statement, he wouldn't have needed a few days to assess whether he'd continue.

The problem isn't Casey or his statement. It's the signalling that someone can potentially gather significant support by simply spouting populist rhetoric. We laughed at other countries when it happened.

    You are getting it

    What's happening here

He is the AH president anyway :)

Casey's vote (No1s) will be biggest in the usual troglodyte areas, the triangle of squinting windows - north Cork/West Limerick/South West Tipp, the border Boondocks, and the cultural void in the middle.

Squinting windows lol, come on Harry we both know we live in the capital of squinting windows :)

I don't want Superman Casey to sort them out. What I would like is for the relevant authorities to start doing their jobs for a change. Take their unfortunate horses off them, prosecute them when they break the law, stop giving them free housing, stop indulging them. But you know that already, don't you?

Liberal elite pc maga yada yada yada.

If you want your voice heard then go speak to your local councillor and chat to the local td they have open offices and raise your concern on the doorstep too.

Don't be a fool and measure yourself off stupid internet memes from other countries.

The president had no power here to do what you think they can do. It's not a protest vote it's just silly.

If you want yourself heard its in your power. If you aren't doing it then you are as lazy as those you chose to give out about.

And it appears there are alot of lazy People in here.

Well the polls were bang on. 1 in 5 people voting for Casey was clearly reflected in the posting on this site with 4 out of 5 people not wanting him as president.

Yes, yes, we'll definitely listen to the 20% that voted for the idiot. Just like we listened to the 28.5% that voted for Sean Gallagher in the last election...

I suppose all these property damaging and safety-threatening travellers will have learned their lessons from the vote and never do those things again now? Because they know that superman Casey will sort them out

I dont think that's the point.

The populist view largely reflects the feeling that not is enough is been done and its a problem that is not going away.

Given the traveller community forms 0.6% of Irish Society yet the respective male prison population is 15% and the female is 22% highlights extensive problems.

His other populist soundbite was against the welfare class, so it wasn't a one trick pony move. Casey wont have won the election, but he has possibly given an early indication of what non liberal strategies should be come a GE.

Leo did say send a clear message. So somebody going from 2% to 20% kind of does.

I think there could well be a "shy voter" effect with Casey and he could get 3 to 5% more than the exit polls but not enough to catch up with Higgins.

The two exit polls are similar and they have been fairly accurate for previous elections (8th vote, 2016 election).

I'm talking in general terms obviously. You may well be well read, cultured, have both a native intelligence and a taught intellect.

I doubt it. Lets see though.

Of course the areas that will not vote Casey in Dublin are the very last places you are likely to see a halting site, even though halting sites can go anywhere.

    One of the great unanswered questions is;
How many of the boards posters who selected Casey (in the poll above) voted for Casey?

I'd say a few Casey voters put in multiple votes here as they did with Journal.ie etc.

As a matter of fact, Listermint, we have had quite a bit of trouble with travellers. Going to the authorities and the council did SWEET FECK ALL. Nada. Nothing. But if you want to launch into those diatribes and fire insults around left right and centre, go right ahead.

They can only do that if they have multiple usernames.

Been thinking this, I am really going to start looking at the local people around here and what they really do for the place. More so than I do already.

Council elections next year. Start there. Our politicians answer to us, and we can vote them in or vote them out. We need to increase voter engagement and actually get people caring about their vote & where it goes.

I voted for the little fella who is designed for the Presidency - a mix of Arts / Culture / Sport / Gaeilge

But I nearly did not vote. (Nearly forgot about it as well)
It was the most pointless election in years.

Michael D. runs rings around the rest of them.
To be honest the impression I got from the rest of them is that they are just using the election to increase thier profile - good career / business move.

The standard of the debates was laughable, beyond amateurish.

I think they should have another referendum in seven years time to do away with the office of President it serves no real purpose, other then being a very expensive nursing home for former politicians.
Or others who try to use it to increase thier profile.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.
