TOD is a big loss. I know people love Cloete but when he's not effective at the breakdown I feel he's a bit anonymous. He's not a great tackler or carrier and he's ineffective at line out. Exeter shut him down and it was quite obvious Tod was far more effective when he came on.

He is indeed a big loss, he's a tackle machine who gives 100%. I'm not sure Cloete is fully fit yet. You get that when a guy comes back from injury, it usually takes a few months until he fully ignores the injury. But make no mistake, he's a baller and a quick thinker, he'll definitely come good soon.

In saying that seven is such a specialist position because of the extra pace needed, so we really need to try to sign a replacement for Tommy ASAP. Tough position to fill, because sevens need to be like any back row, but faster.

It's very significant that Munster get Castres to Limerick first. A win there (as expected) and Castres will be disinterested to an extent. If Munster had to go out there first of all, it would be a very different kettle of fish.

Exeter have come up short yet again. No wins from the opening rounds; they're a really good side to watch and have come very far but they're miles from being in contention in Europe still. They lack the top end class in their squad.

I can now see Munster finishing on 22/23 points which should be enough for a home semi final.

I dont think so, Saracens and Leinster are the 2 top seeds now,
If Munster could be 5th or best runner up is the only way they'll get a home semi or play Leinster in the semi which is the same as a home semi

This is the worst take I've seen on the red card.
Yes he's a Yank, yes that's "bro" in his name, unsure if he voted for Trump ... probably did.

That isn't what happened, but you can be sure players are looking at this and thinking about drawing fouls and penalties in the future

Well his views are as backwards as AC Slater sitting on a chair.

    Return of the JJ
The tackle situation is strange now. As i understand it, the directive now is that the tackler needs to show that they are bending at the waist to lower their shoulder height.
Cipriani stood upright and his shoulder hit scannel in the face. Scannel was leaning forward (so he's a bit lower) but not by an unreasonable amount. So by the letter of the law that's a red card.
The later incident where Carbery collided with Twelvetrees is an interesting case though. For the moment lets ignore the fact that Carbery is changing direction so twelvetrees had no time to react. Because of the height difference between the two and Carbery's low body position his head contacts with Twelvetrees' chest. in this case if the tackler had tried to bend at the waist the contact would have been a lot more dangerous (shoulder/head or head/head).
So how do you judge that?

No exact details but there is 5 backrows in that list. Botha and TOD will be huge losses as Stander and PoM are gone til December now most likely

Bunch of muppets! It is something that referee's do need to be stronger on though as it's often the reason for a gap appearing in a defense around the edge of a ruck

Worse than Cipriani refers to his high tackle, not the clearout

    TOD's injury update

Meanwhile, there was a positive update regarding Tommy O’Donnell’s leg injury, with x-rays confirming that the flanker did not break his leg against Gloucester as first feared, but he sustained some serious ankle damage.

Not necessarily good news. Sometimes a clean break can heal quicker than ligament tears, which is what it looked like to me in the slow mo.

That's very much a glass half full update. Serious ankle damage could easily be a season ending injury.
