Bit harsh considering if you were trying to evade tax you wouldn't have called in the first place.

True but no doubt if the revenue person had come across in anyway as being unsure, it would have been seen as okay to go ahead.

............just waiting on a surprise Vat audit now.

You mention you have a Ltd company and are also a sole trader, I reckon you aren't too far down the ole list that REAP throws up to be honest :pac:

I've had one before spent a heap of money on something and they owed me a measily €1400, took an audit and 4mts of badgering them to get my money back. When they called the audit I had everything with them in a few hrs on the same day.
They seem to leave you alone as long as you don't have a vat reclaim. I've a good accountant so an audit wouldn't phase me in the slightest.
I should be able to ask a simple question thought without fear of intimidation.

If you have an accountant who is on the ball, it would have been much more sensible to ask the question there instead of asking revenue.

Thought it was the quicker option usually a simple question turns into an hour conversation. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I'd say they get pissed off getting asked for advice which they probably don't see as their job to give over the phone. That might explain the snotty response.

Wouldn't worry about too much else to be honest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,106 ✭✭✭✭drunkmonkey

Why do they even have a phone line then. It wasn't snotty it was more listen here buster don't you even dare or i'll come down on you like a ton of bricks. Not worried, should rename it the public bollicking instead of public service.

probably interrupted a tea break or something,

i know of someone who did this and never got caught, wouldn't recommend it though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,106 ✭✭✭✭drunkmonkey

She said I was 100% going to get caught as I asked the question so they will be watching for it.

This thread resurfaced yesterday, seems to conflict with what I was told https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057625782

To be honest the vibe I got was if I didn't ask the question to them I had a defence but now they'll be watching me. It wasn't a plesent conversation, more like a giving out to and now your card it marked sunny.

did this guy actually provide a vat no or not, if he didnt then i dont see what he did wrong

Sorry to hear you got such a bollocking, I would have thought a question like that was fair game but obviously not, i'll think twice before ringing them myself now for anything like that.

I suppose the only thing he did wrong was not declare in Ireland that there was no VAT paid on the sale in the UK, but not sure if there is an onus to do so. If anything, its the dealer in the UK who will be up the creek, as they returned no VAT on their sale with no external VAT number to back it up.

    yes agreed.

I think there are people without vat numbers getting away with this by simply buying a nearly new car in UK, using for 411 to export it free of vat, run up the mileage and wait til 6 months old then present for vrt with hand written receipt stating it was bought from j blogs no 1 Belfast street for X amount and taken into country yesterday by road.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,106 ✭✭✭✭drunkmonkey

Has to be plenty at it, pick any receipt in your pocket and give that vat number.
Still remember the guy that used to give the ESB bank account number and sort code for any DD he was signing up to, it was the one of the bottom of their bill, got away with it for years.

You don't need a vat number. It is legit for any person to export a car from UK less vat once it qualifies as a new means of transport. If the car is no longer a new means of transport when presented for vrt, they won't ask for vat but I imagine you wouldn't want to show them that you took it out of UK less vat.
That's why I figure people are just producing hand written receipts to delete the UK vat transaction.

Annnnnnnnnnnd back to the point of this thread, MarkN and his new car.

Doesn’t look like Mark needs a new car anytime soon judging by the different cars he’s getting to review lately.
But if I had to guess I’d say g30 5 series will win out in the end.

He's had his fun in in the R&N, want to see him take a 335d out for a jaunt.

Government have put a 50k ceiling on the 0% bik benefit for running an electric company car.
I have a feeling a lot of people will be looking for their deposit back on the Audi voodoo had his eye on a few weeks back. I also guess Tesla in Ireland aren’t happy.
If you already have your 100k Tesla bought I’d say you’d be pretty pissed off now as it is unclear if those who already bought last year will now be caught or will possibly be exempted.

It’s ridiculous what they’ve done with the BIK cap. The message is clear with what they’ve done, they’re only happy for you to go green as long as you don’t desire much more than a Leaf or an E-Golf. Crazy!

I can feel the draw of a car again, especially this week as I have been sharing the one car with the wife so it’s creating issues. I’m back in stuff from Monday, I’ve a Civic Type-R coming first week in November, a few cars booked in for 2019 already including the new model Audi A6 first week in Jan. €15,000 of extras on it!! I have to say, if anything was going to turn me from BMW it’s that A6, it’s bloody gorgeous.

In the meantime, I've been testing the new model Honda CR-V this week!

Have you the new peugept 508 booked? I'm intrigued to see is it a arteon bester at least.

I've been doing some work with Windsor Motors and they've Peugeot so I will certainly ask! Lovely looking car.

Watched your review of the Honda. Bit of a Mat Watson/car wow vibe in an Irish context which is a good thing.
Not gone on the styling at all of the car but I am sure its a good runner.

I agree with you about the EV changes.
I'm guessing the jealous civil servants don't like seeing people in Teslas at half price.

50k limit is fair enough if you can still buy a 100k car and get the bik benefit on the first 50k.
On the other hand, if all benefit is lost as soon as the car cost goes over 50k, it is a joke.

    I think it’s the latter.

    Decent if it's sound.
NCT a potential worry but a testdrive & poke around would mitigate much of the worry.

Mileage is particularly good. I haven’t checked VRT as it won’t allow you select transmission on the drop down. Can’t be too bad!

I'd say you would be paying close to the same again in VRT on that Phaeton which would put it close to what is is being asked for this very low mileage A8:

Was just thinking the same. Amazed at a8 prices lately. Seriously considering a 3.0 diesel quattro next

Along these lines, VRT high ish in comparison
