Mercedes have an equivalent electric model just released and Bmw have an ix3 coming too.
Would you not be as well off though in a loaded second hand g series 740d though for a lot less purchase money?

Diesel doesn't suit me at all and a 5km commute had electric written all over it. I'd only be interested in the latest G 7 series which are still coming in at mid €40s for anything nice, which is all money up front, plus all the high running costs on top.

VAT cant be recovered on a non-commercial vehicle. I think the company has to own the vehicle to claim the accelerated capital allowances, so PCP (for companies) or HP wouldn't work

5km commute has 911 Turbo or a bicycle written all over it.

Even more pricey and 0% BIK is for full EV only. :)

It's bizarre how much that makes sense. :D

Article on the Audi in today’s Irish times.
Audi saying they have a good few deposits in Ireland.
Saying 85-90 k for basic model.
I wonder if those fancy camera mirrors will be standard? Doubt it and not sure if I’d actually want them as I imagine a fortune to replace when damaged.

Technology for the sake of technology - these mirrors are useless as they improve nothing on the standard glass panel; Actually they're worse as they're bound to be heavier, need energy to work, can suffer malfunction and, on top of that, they don't have the depth perception and parallax of standard mirrors.

To anybody thinking "but DRAG!!!", it won't be a factor unless you're driving constantly at 200kph.

Can just imagine the scrotes lining up to kick them off, no thanks.

They're not standard. I've already gone off the car, back to looking at V8 G10 7 Series. Mines for sale from this week if anyone knows anyone who might be interested, have yet to list it.

I think you’re going to need your own thread for this....

You should start it in the ev and hybrids forum. I can just imagine the responses from some of the regulars there when you go from “I want an electric Audi” to “actually I think I’ll have a v8 instead”

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,661 ✭✭✭Voodoomelon

It's laughable really, I change my mind non stop, but for some reason have made up my mind 100% to sell this week and i'm pretty much set on a G10/11. I think I always was, but I let things like expensive EVs distract me. :D

Actually they completely remove the blind spot which is to blame for countless accidents every day/month/year in Ireland because people wrongly solely rely on their mirrors.

You think people check their mirrors?

Lads are any of you Vat registered, i've 2 vat numbers so could buy it as a sole trader or through my Ltd, just wondering how it would work, from what i've read I don't have to pay the vat to vrt it and also don't need to pay the UK vat as it's vat qualifying.

    Here's the car https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/2015-bmw-640d-msport-grand-coupe-auto/18632500

It's then a company car and BIK is chargeable at the new value of the car which would be extortionate. Pay for it yourself and claim expenses back from the company for business use.
Being vat registered is no help unless you're buying a commercial.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,104 ✭✭✭✭drunkmonkey

Yea but if I buy it using my sole trader vat number I can't be liable for BIK.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,661 ✭✭✭Voodoomelon

As a sole trader you are essentially the business so you will still own the car as opposed to the business and you are liable for VAT.

I'll be using the business money to buy it and it will be used for business purposes.

The revenue website says that Vat is not liable on a imported car as it's over the 6,000km 6mts rule.
When it enters the State, a vehicle is a new means of transport for VAT purposes if either of the below applies:

it is less than six months after its first registration
it has travelled 6,000 kilometres or less
    For example:

Vehicle is five months old with 8,000km - chargeable to VAT.
Vehicle is seven months old with 5,000km - chargeable to VAT.
Vehicle is seven months old with 8,000km - not chargeable to VAT

Yes but surely you know that as a sole trader, the money in your business account and all liabilities are in your name. Hence "Joe Bloggs trading as ACME Stores" and Joe Bloggs are one and the same. Hence the car will be yours and in your name, a sole traded business cannot own a car, it will be your name on it and will be treated as such. (from a Revenue point of view)

Yes but the revenue aren't looking for the Vat. Don't see anywhere where they look for vat on EU imported cars.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,738 ✭✭✭Heres Johnny

Just looked at the ad there. What is a VAT qualifying vehicle? You can reclaim UK VAT?

Surely then Irish VAT would have to be paid if imported here (even though it's technically here already)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,104 ✭✭✭✭drunkmonkey

According to revenue no it's not vatable. Just spotted another thread on it and the chap didn't pay the vat. I know it's not a requirement for NCT.

The way I see it, you would get through the registration process without them looking for vat however using an irish vat number to take it out of UK vat free would be similar to paying vat and claiming it back which would be legit if it was a van or some such for business use.
I don't think it is correct to do this for a car and it would certainly be discovered by revenue if they don't deem it correct and then you would be up sh1t street. I wouldn't go this route without full professional advice.

If you are vat registered and the car is vat qualifying then it should be sold to you with zero vat out of the U.K.

Now some companies still charge the vat and you claim it back from U.K. Revenue due to a lot of people using fraudulent vat numbers.

Spoke with the Revenue Vat section, the lady did not mince her words, under no circumstances am I to use my Vat number to buy a car vat free from the UK. Seen as I called they said they will find me and I'll have to pay the vat. So much for a simple enquiry, just waiting on a surprise Vat audit now.

This thread resurfaced yesterday, seems to conflict with what I was told https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057625782

To be honest the vibe I got was if I didn't ask the question to them I had a defence but now they'll be watching me. It wasn't a plesent conversation, more like a giving out to and now your card it marked sunny.

They may just look into you now if you do import a car even without the vat dodge.
I'd be buying my next car here on an irish plate.
There are loopholes in vat system that mean dodges like this are being done and I'd assume that is why revenue are a little sharp about it.

Bit harsh considering if you were trying to evade tax you wouldn't have called in the first place.
