What’s the fashion like in your gym?

I’m old school, pair of shorts, T-shirt and a good pair of trainers.

More and more I’m seeing lads wearing yoga pants and string vests. Lads with such small t shirts even nipples aren’t covered. Women going around in hot pants and bra things. It’s like the gym is something COMPLETELY different to the thing I joined almost 20 years ago. I mean do you really have to dress to get the most attention?

There was a girl there last week, good looking girl, hot pants, see through white top and clearly no bra. Seriously off putting, great in a night club, not so great in the gym.

People can wear what they want to be honest. Each to their own and you don't have to look at them. If the girl is comfortable and wants to dress like that it is not really infringing on you or your rights. Not sure what you mean by "off putting" either.

I completely agree though that gyms have become fashion parades now, but it doesn't bother me.

Agreed. There was this guy yesterday with a sideless tshirt. I'm pretty sure he had cut it smaller. He was strutting around, look at my tattooed muscles

An instructor at my gym is a pain in the arse. Camp as hell and is "besties" with a group of girls who go to some of the conditioning classes I do. When he's not taking the class he'll frequently barge in and just start talking to them and disrupting the class or taking videos for his (personal, not the gym's) IG stories without so much as asking permission.

I actually don't wear anything, saves with all the putting on and off clothes, and let's face it, who can get a sports bra off after shoulder day?

    Really handy for shaving too.

I'm shorts and T shirt myself, though it might be deemed "fancy" by some.:D

Young lads (16-25) seem to be either all about the tracksuit bottoms and string vests look you mention above like they're on Love Island or some shoyte like that; or GAA shorts up their holes complete with big thick GAA socks and GAA top. I should mention the guys with the string vests rarely if ever have the pyshiques to carry off such a top but each to their own I guess. The Tapout phase thankfully seems to have come to an end.

I can't personally understand how anyone could actually do a workout with tracksuit bottoms on, but I guess if it works for you fire away.

As for the laydeez, I've rarely seen the attire you describe.....but I do wish I saw more of it. ;):pac:

Any pics of the last girl you mention btw - asking for a friend.

I just grab shorts and whatever top is handy from the drawer. Sometimes its a vest top (running style not sides missing), sometimes a compression/undershirt type. Sometimes my jiu jitsu gear out of handiness (Like This).

I agree that the obvious peacocking is a bit much. But if people find tight crop pants and sports bras/vests comfortable then they are welcome to go for it. They are more functional for trainingthat T-shirt, depending on what you are doing.

Trainers might be old school, but most of them are useless for lifting weights in tbh.

Ive a collection of various 100% cotton t-shirts for the gym that are all plain. Used to wear whatever I had. Realised that the stretchy 'breathable' material t-shirts I used to wear were crap for keeping the bar in position for low bar. Also found myself sliding upwards on bench.

Shorts are whatever basketball shorts that were on sale the day I wandered into sports direct.

How so? Last winter I pretty much universally wore tracksuit bottoms to the gym. I mean so much that one time I wore shorts and one the lads just shouted over he has legs! :D

Wait till it happens when you're doing squats. You'll just be praying to not feel it running down your leg. :pac:

Just can't wear them! I find they get in the way and my legs get too warm wearing them* even in a freezing cold gym. I have no problem with anyone wearing them though. Well, except maybe with a string vest cut down to your belly button.......

*that said I can comfortably wear flip flops 12months of the year pretty much no matter hoow cold it is. I was wearing them to the gym during the early days of the Beast from the East - got some funny looks then alright but I just don't feel the cold in my legs for some reason.

There's a word for that, it's called "oversharing". :pac:

    With regards to Gym clothing.

    I have been going to my current gym for about 4 years now. During this time i have seen beginners going through their 'Cycles' which roughly follow as below;

    - 1 - 6 months: Starts lifting... normal clothes, clueless about lifting and little to no muscle.
    - 6 Months to one year: Resorts to youtube for instructional videos and discover the world of pre workout, instagram and stringers.
    - 1 - 2 years: gains some (but not alot) of muscle which results in an over confidence about their physique. Starts to wear stringers and swallow pre workout powder for everyone to see the in dressing room. Clueless form... arm day everyday.
    - 2+ years: Matures somewhat, learns the value of training legs and starts to wear normal clothes again

I've head that, wasn't too bad until I remember that just because I have headphones on and can't hear it doesn't mean everyone else can't!

If theres 3 smith machines but only 1 bench press station in your gym I would be reconsidering the gym...

It’s my backup gym. Handy for pre work workouts as it’s right next door and I get discounted membership

Shoulder press at a bench press? How does that work?

Sorry, didn’t mean to say bench press. I actually meant squat rack.
He had dragged a bench over and was sitting in front of the rack so he could take off the barbell for seated shoulder presses.

Don't have a problem with that at all then. Different workout to using the smith machine.

If you want to think like that, could apply the same logic and ask why you didn't just do your squats/bench or whatever it was on the smith machine.

Its a power rack he was using it correctly!

I worked out wearing workout tracksuit bottoms once. It was incredibly uncomfortable and warm.

If he was doing a big shoulders session, then yes, absolutely. You feel the smith machine should have been fine for his workout. Don't see why you can't apply the same logic to yourself

Why has he done something bad?
Strangely I can’t help but like him even though I hate showing off and he basically does that for a living.
He just seems alright and I admire how little he cares about anyone’s criticism.

I never had an issue with the machine, where are you getting this from? He sat at the machine for 35 minutes, I said the very same in my first message

Four Brazilians sitting around chatting very loudly,... I'm all for integration but piss off to a coffee shop and have a chat instead of clogging up the floor.

So you just mentioned the 3 Smith machines for reason whatsoever?

The implication was very clearly that you believe he should have ****ed off and done his workout on the smith.

Was it ... was it you?
I didn’t imply anything , I mentioned the smith machines as I didn’t want to use them. If he sat at a smith for 35 mins it would be the same.

Two in my gym today were recording each other's legs workout.
Some other guy and me were looking at them like wtf...

    It's leg Instagram day
