    Another connections

    Vanity Fair
    Animal Farm
    The Jungle Book
    The Far Pavilions.

    Two complete guesses -

    1. All English novels by English authors

    2. Something to do with war/colonial themes? Animal Farm is Russian Revolution, Far Pavillions is India, Jungle Book is India and Vanity Fair is set in the Napoleonic wars.

No to all, but IrishZeus is the closest but not hitting it.

Animal Farm and The Jungle Book have talking animals in them. And if Vanity Fair is set during the Napoleonic wars, Animal Farm has its very own Napoleon. Basically, I'm still lost. :/

Something to do with films made of the books? I'm hopeless on actors and producers and stuff though.

I loved reading The Far Pavillions.

I think New Home has it. Is Napoleon the common factor?

Were they all published as serials before being published as books?

I know this is the case for the Jungle book, and I think Vanity Fair but I'm not certain on the others

    They were indeed.

    Your question, so.

This is driving me nuts! I love it!
I get River for some, Ethiopian for some, Kick for some, but nothing for them all.

I'll mull this over for hours now.

Question about that question - is it mummy as in preserved body, or mummy as in mother?

I had paper for some. Can you elaborate on them all?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,740 ✭✭✭✭looksee

Blerk - there was supposedly a type of paper that used the wrappings from mummies.

Banana paper is pushing it a bit - you can make paper from pretty much any vegetable fibre - I went through a paper-making phase, which was quite entertaining, but you really can turn all sorts of plants into paper.

You could have used cartridge and sugar in your list too...

    giphy.gif

Apparently Egyptian mummies at one stage were used in the US to make paper!

You could've added elephant dung to the list, too. Cotton, Banana (for the reasons Looksee mentioned) and Bank were the ones who made me think of paper. Then something clicked in the back of my head about the mummies, too, and I figured that was enough to hazard a guess.

    As for laid paper,
Laid paper is a type of paper having a ribbed texture imparted by the manufacturing process.

    Question to follow.

What do these people have in common?

    Brian May
    Shaquille O'Neal
    Peter Weller
    Greg Graffin

If you don't get it with four, I'll add a fifth person and that'll give it away.

    Height?

I must live under a stone - I have never heard of any of these people!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,887 ✭✭✭IrishZeus

Are they all Hall of Famers? Shaq is for basketball and Brian May is for music. I’m not sure if the other two are.

(You’ve brought back fond memories of watching Peter Weller in Robocop as a kid!!)

Is it academia? I know 3 of them have some academic teaching qualifications but not sure about O'Neill.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.
