      Animal Farm and The Jungle Book have talking animals in them. And if Vanity Fair is set during the Napoleonic wars, Animal Farm has its very own Napoleon. Basically, I'm still lost. :/

      Were they all published as serials before being published as books?

      I know this is the case for the Jungle book, and I think Vanity Fair but I'm not certain on the others

      Blerk - there was supposedly a type of paper that used the wrappings from mummies.

      Banana paper is pushing it a bit - you can make paper from pretty much any vegetable fibre - I went through a paper-making phase, which was quite entertaining, but you really can turn all sorts of plants into paper.

      You could have used cartridge and sugar in your list too...

      Apparently Egyptian mummies at one stage were used in the US to make paper! :eek:

      You could've added elephant dung to the list, too. Cotton, Banana (for the reasons Looksee mentioned) and Bank were the ones who made me think of paper. Then something clicked in the back of my head about the mummies, too, and I figured that was enough to hazard a guess.


      As for laid paper,
      Laid paper is a type of paper having a ribbed texture imparted by the manufacturing process.
