This talk about Ferrari having and illegal car is getting ridiculous.

The crux of it really is how much they've gained, in such little time. That's really it. If they'd gained it piece by piece, nobody would mention it.

Red Bull did it in the 2nd half of 2013 and won every race from Spa till year end. They didn't perform like that up till then

Ferrari has had good pace all year but only demonstrated it when it could. They could / should've won more races only for the usual safety cars, bad weather and luck. China, Azerbaijan, Ricard, Hochenheim are examples.

I think it's more so the gains they've made comparing last years car to this years one, have been, abnormal, in the context of F1 development. Again, as long as it's legal, which it has proven to be, I'm perfectly fine with it, and all credit to them. It's really nice to have an intra-team battle, as opposed to the years of inter-team battling we've had up to now.

Red Bull used to say they had no one advantage, that it was a combination of small advances in all areas of the car. I wonder if this is the case with Ferrari, or is it something more fundamental in one particular area.

Mercedes had the best engine and best chassis after the rules changed. Williams and Force India were wellnup the pecking order inbthe forst year of the new engines. Its taken Ferrari a long time to catch up. They do seem to have taken a big step forward recently. It has really helped Haas and Sauber too. Haas shares a lot of parts with the Ferrari so its surprising they havnt been able to challenge for podiums.

I would guess alot of the complaints are due to Ferrari signing that Laurent Mekies guy from the FIA.

It was said that he had knowledge of all the cars inner workings and the other teams must be fairly pissed off that they were allowed sign him.

That would be my guess anyway to why other teams are saying the car is illegal, I doubt that it is illegal, surely if they were cheating in any way it would come out eventually.

Well if next year's Renault is as good as this year's Ferrari, we can certainly pin some of it on the F.I.A thanks to Marcin Budkowski.

Is it time to stop F.I.A employees going to individual teams for a minimum of say 5 years?

Why not, back in F1 and they have to crawl to him. They need experienced he has it. This time he is more in control

1 year is loads really when you consider the rate of development.

2 to be on the safe side, but 5 or 10 is just ridiculous.

Agreed, 5 or 10 years is ridiculous because the technical side is constantly changing but it would never happen because it would infringe on people's freedom of movement

Look at paddy Lowe to Williams. He clearly had the Mercedes knowledge and went to team still running the same engine and they went back ways.
Assuming there is not a scheme to take over Williams ongoing.

Michelin won't apply to become tyre supplier for F1, mainly because of the requirements of degradation tyres.

21 race draft calendar for next year including a German Grand Prix has been published, subject to approval by the world motorsport council

Any idea of where they want to hold it? It'd be nice to go back to the Nurburgring.

    This too shall pass.

Article a few days ago said there wasn't a contract in place but there was a handshake deal done between the management of Hockenheim and either the FIA or FOM at Spa.

And then how are FIA going to get anyone competent to work for them? It would be a career death sentence in a very specialised field.

It was certainly an issue in the past when teams got away with all sorts because the FIA officials were not experienced or knowledgeable enough to understand half of the tricks that the top teams were using.

Hockenheim is announced for 2019 already, there's the possibility of them alternating with the Nurburgring after that though. Seen a few rumours floating around to that effect

Can't blame them really if they think it goes against how hey want there brand to be seen and what there brand stands for.
I do not think it has done Pirelli any harm do. Has it ?

The tyers blowing up on 5+ cars every race a few years ago did damage their brand. They were forced to design tyres to those specifications and then it backfired on them.

There’s a 25 min interview with Alonso on the chequered flag podcast. Looking forward to listening to it today.

Guy Martin and Jenson Button are on Channel 4 at 18.30 or 19.30 on the +1 in the F1 special where Guy races the 1983 FW08 C Williams that Ayrton Senna first drove and Jenson is in a Williams six wheeled prototype that never raced before. Its very good. Well worth watching. Watched it myself this morning as had it recorded from the first time C4 had it on.

    Live long and Prosper

You know, I reckon Lance Stroll could be a decent oval track racer.

    This too shall pass.

His dad will have to buy an Indy team to find out

I'm trying to figure out how the teams will shape up next season so this is what I've come up with so far. I can't think of who will go into the Torro Rosso. I can't see Williams letting Siroktin go when he's a pay driver and the other Williams driver I'm thinking will either be Russel or Ocon.

    Ferrari - Vettel and Kimi
    Mercedes - Hamilton and Bottas
Red Bull - Verstappen and Gasly
Force India - Perez and Stroll
    Haas - Magnussen and LeClerc
    Torro Rosso -
    McLaren - Sainz and Norris
    Williams - Russel and Siroktin
    Sauber - Giovannzzi and Erisken

Think this answers the rumours about JEV returning

If Vettel wants to win the championship, I don't think he can keep on making mistakes like he did today.
