I have a face tattoo, hand tattoos, wrist, arm, chest. I work for a large multi national in the IT sector. I can feel people looking at my tatts all the time.

Its funny as they expect me to talk and act a certain way based on my looks. But I am in fact the opposite to their expectations.

I look down on people who look down on people and who think they are better than everyone else such as the OP.

I earn more money than you, probably have more respect in the workplace and Im covered in tatts. Go figure.

    How much money?

Not at all. I have a discreet tattoo myself on my back shoulder blade.

But I think tattoos are becoming too common these days - like piercing was in the 1990s. Complete face and neck tattoos are a complete turn off for me. And crappy tatoos are awful and of course tattoos will look crap as you age and your skin sags.

This about the 10,000 the same thread has been done. I've fairly heavy coverage.

I couldn't give 2 ****s what anybody thinks. My tattoo's were gotten for me. No one else.

If people are that shallow that they have to judge someone with tattoos then they can **** right off.

The whole “ tattoos will look awful when you’re old” thing never bothered me.
Does any 90 year old look as good naked as they did in their 20’s?
Saggy skin is saggy skin, just coloured differently if tattooed.

Location, quality and subject matter determine all.

Head, neck, hands are bad places for tattoos although I do find some finger tattoos funny and discreet.

Seen a lot of very poor quality tattoos that can easily confused with prison ones. Don't know how people pay money to these people after being mutilated.

Subject matter is down to personal preference of likes and dislikes can be over looked if the two above are appropriate but certain subjects to me are just tacky. Pictures of family high on the list of a sign of a poor social background and I feel the same with names of wives, parent, children etc... the same way.

I'm sure those people don't care about my thoughts but they probably fit in with their social group and don't want to be any where else.

The op has commented that the fact that some people have ink and as such that's as far as they'll get in a career.

I know 2 ceos who have almost full body suits, 2 very senior managers in well known companies that have extensive coverage as well as plenty of "pillars of society" that have plenty of ink so the argument holds no water.

I adore tattoos and I enjoy seeing how upset pearl clutchers like the OP get over them. It's quite hilarious.

Live and Let Live, sweating the small stuff is a bit OTT, somebody having tattoos is not going to pay your mortgage or affect your life in any way

Anytime I see a girl with a tattoo on their neck, behind their ear or around their wrist I think deli worker

    Based on my deli experience

Why do people get very visible tatoos?

Any other change to your appearance is not so visible really. And probably not so permanent too.

Why not? There is nothing wrong with it. Some people seem to have a problem with how others live there life. But frankly. They need to get over it, and live their own.

Better to have an opinion than to be told to shut up and conform with the latest fad. Pity tats are indelible though. I reckon many will regret them later in life. But hey ho.

I think they can be removed using laser(IPL) therapy but for large areas of the body, both arms for example, this would be a painstaking and vastly expensive process.

Won't happen in a bank or Civil Service or that kind of set up really, but maybe they are ceo's of edgy new kids on the block type companies.

I know you will come back and say otherwise. That's fine. But I really doubt it in the mainstream TBH. Visible tats are not expected or welcomed in certain occupations.

Anyway what you are saying is only hearsay anyway. As is my observation too let it be said!

Having a chuckle reading the thread.

X: What do you all think of tattoos?

A: I don't care what you think of my tattoos. They're for me.

    B: I don't really like tattoos.

    A: /loses the plot

    :D

Don't have any myself but some tattoos do suit some people, but on some other people they look cheap and make them look like a scumbag. I wanted one in the past but never bothered to get it. I think having a tattoo on your arm at age 60 would look awful they are ok when you look fresh and young.

I adore tattoos and I enjoy seeing how upset pearl clutchers like the OP get over them. It's quite hilarious.

This is a great example of the reality. People who say their visible tattoos are really for them is actually BS they like people to comment and look. They like the positive and negative. They think they are getting a rise from certain people and love it.

What the OP is trying to explain is they have connotations and they don't like them. There are real connotations, a homemade tat suggests prison as does bad quality. The are also fad lead with says a lot when you see a butterfly tat stretched all over the place on somebody in their 40s.

I have no problem with people looking at me and passing judgement it is human and instinctive and most people assume I have ink due to my appearance. I don't have to show it

No, that's not what the OP is saying, you're just extrapolating.

People do get tattoos visible or otherwise for themselves but the truth is most tattooed people like how narrow minded people like the OP get wound up. It's certainly a handy filtration system. And anyway, what's wrong with liking positive feedback? If I get a new dress or shoes it's for myself but if someone passes positive feedback there's no harm in enjoying that.

can you imagine old folks homes in 50 years time, yuck!

Tell me more about the Da Vinci masterpiece you're going to resemble when you're in your 80s. At least people with tattoos will have something interesting to look at other than liver spots.

I think it’s more the assumptions made about the person and their character etc. because of their tattoo that makes people “lose the plot”, not the fact that their tattoo isn’t liked.
