You cannot rewind live TV using an external hard drive

The hard drive doesn't start recording the channel when you start watching it

Rewind only works when the hard drive is built in, for example on Sky+ etc

    you can on my tv

How r u getting the UK iPlayer to work?

I am not sure. I got an IT mate to sort it in the end.

Re the connect box: I said before that there was no way for it to remember how much of a programme you had watched. There actually is after playing around with it recently.

If you click on the history tab at the far right it will bring up the programmes you have previously watched. However, as there is no individual user login, if somebody else watches the same programme as you it will remember where they were at, can't do both.

Still no ads on the box. I wonder what is up?

It is a shame that there is only 7 day catchup. The iplayer has 30 days.
The great series 'The Killing of Gianni Verace' is on the rte player at the moment but you can't catch up on the first episodes.

That is a rights issue as well I suppose. They have to pay more to hold the UK programs for longer. We need another 60 million licence fee payers for that!!

The more that use the box, however, the better it will get. The software guys need feedback from the box to improve it.

Also If people are using Humax for UK channels I don't see why the saorview people can't integrate a satellite option to reduce this.

On my H model Samsung you hit the play button to activate timeshift and you can pause or rewind or record and it adds the entire program (or rather the amount stored in timeshift anyway), hit stop to go back to live TV and stop again to exit timeshift completely.

I believe rte are showing some games from the world cup on the rte player only.
I wonder will the connect box be showing them?

They will be on the bbc or itv anyway I guess.

Thanks to cheating collusion from the likes of Germany and Austria in the past the final matches in each group are played at the same time.

RTE will be showing the 'B' match on News Now.

A shame really, it won't be in HD there. Isn't that the channel that they are scaling back? It is still staying I presume, just with less 'news'.

Is this the only official Saorview connect box?

    https://www.did.ie/powerpoint-saorview-connect-box-black-dxd7025svc-dxd7025svc-prd

Can you record and watch something different at the same time? Are you restricted to recording sat and watching Saorview and vice versa? Can't watch one sat channel while recording another sat channel?

Yes the only Connect box. You can't currently record anything on it until it gets some future update, at that time you will need to connect a storage device to it as it doesn't come with one inbuilt.

Hi sorry for the newbie question but does this box take a satellite connection for UK channels? I've read the last couple of pages but I'm only on a short lunch break!!

Are you limited to recordings? As far as I can see it only receives 1 sat and 1 terrestrial connection.

Is the Saorview-FTA still a good proposition as opposed to Saorview Connect which seems to have its shortcomings. Local supplier advised me to get the dish/aerial for FTA+Saorview. Thanks.

You don't need a Saorview branded box for this set up. I have a dish and aerial.

Does anyone know if there are other boxes with apps on it like catch up services?

Retailer didn't mention branded box, just a simple dish for FTA and smaller aerial for home stations, those station are all I want. Is your reception ok? And would windy weather cause you any concern (although the ones I've seen seem to withstand inclement weather). Thanks

It has two tuners that can receive both sat and terrestial, so you can view one channel and record one. Not sue if you can watch a recording and record two programmes. [Probably not because of the throughput on the USB device.]

As currently supplied, it has two sat connections, one terr aerial, one USB, and RJ45 for broadband. If connected to a sat dish for Sky, it will tune to UK TV but no full EPG.

    Currently priced at €149.

Yeah reception is great. Get the free HD channels.

    Hi.

Is there any updates on when the series link feature will be available for Saorview Connect?

    Thanks in advance.

I got a Saorview connect box last night. My gripes:
    1. Sat and Terrestrial channels are completely separate, and you have to go into the settings to switch modes.
    2. Satellite channels are just a big list, does not seem to be an EPG for sat channels. Does this mean that we won't be able to schedule recordings on sat channels? Will have to wait and see for the software update.
    3. The on-demand section is just a menu with two apps, RTE Player and TG4 Player. No 3 Player. How to add others, All4, iPlayer, etc.
    4. User interface is laggy. Not as smooth or as polished as you would expect for something that's twice the price of a FireTV 4K.
    Very disappointed.

Currently I have a standalone box and have the Saorview and Sat channels on one EPG. Is there any point updating to this box? I'm interested in having the catch up apps but maybe it's not worth it?

You can't get iPlayer or all4. These are only available to UK TV licence holders.

TV3 is not available yet as no agreement has been made I imagine.

Sounds like you'll be taking a step backwards in the EPG department. You need to play with one first. There's a reasonably positive video about the box here, but interesting to see the comments at 4:44. I'd be far more pessimistic, in that the way the software hangs together leaves a lot to be desired, to be honest. It's an attempt to get satellite, terestrial and on-demand into the same box, but it honestly feels like 3 boxes. on-demand apps in one mode, Saorview in another, and terrestrial in yet another. There's no integration at all between them.

The on demand apps are not an issue. They are always separate to the main epg. It is the same on freesat.
It couldn't be easier to get to that section, just press the 'on demand' button. The catchup is also available from the epg (not tg4 yet).

Thankfully the ads are gone from the rte player on the box yet the player still has issues with crashing and not loading straight away. That is probably more the fault of the rte player team rather than the distributor of the box.

I am tempted by this box now the price is dropped to €149.

    However:

1 It needs recording which is not there yet.

    2. It should have an internal HDD - maybe the Mk II.

    3. It needs to be crash proof - which reports suggest it is not there yet.

    4. It needs a better user interface - why is it so hard to switch from one input to the other? It should have a 'favourites' list where the stations are listed in your order and that is all you have to do :- 1 - RTE 1 2 - RTE 2 3 - TV3 4 - BBC 1 etc.

    5. It needs faster hardware and software - but doesn't everything..

So, still at the disappointment level with it.

No, all I want is a reliable way to record RTE. It would help if RTE kept there EPG up to date. The RTEplayer would be nice if it worked reliably - which it does not on my TV.

I have Freesat - works well, except the idiotic channel order*, with no facility to change it - it is not even possible to delete unwanted channels like the shopping ot God channels. But it is Free.

Licence I would have to have anyway - which I do have.

Sky is of no use to me anyway, as I have little interest in sport and I have Netflix for films and box sets. I do not think Sky is good value for anything.

*Why can Freesat not have logical channel numbers? Why can they not put HD channels in prime position? Why can they not switch from HD to SD for local content? [Rant, rant, rant, but it is free and we do not even have to pay for a UK licence.

I guess those questions are rhetoric :)
My answer would be .... proprietary sh1t designed to limit what users can do! :D
