I'm asking your opinion. Why can you not give a straight answer? Do you believe there is a majority will in this country for abortion for any reason up until 12 weeks, seeing as you're the one pontificating about democracy in action?

My opinion doesn't matter, and neither does yours. The majority have spoken and it's a Yes to repeal the 8th.

No one forced to vote yes in MRBI poll either

This vote is going to kill Fianna Fail. They stand for nothing now. FG will push ahead in the polls. Expect an election very soon - probably in September. Why wait for the budget? No need now. Guaranteed to be an election. FG will capitalise and their new buddies in SF.

Abortion isn't the only issue you know.

Indeed. And I hope most people understood they were voting for abortion on demand.

You make it sound like a woman will run into A and E shouting I want an abortion now!.

What's the odds there will be a legal challenge within 2 weeks. The guys and gals in Iona only like democracy when it goes their way.

Course there will be something. And some independents will stall the legislation etc.
What kind of person do you need to be to do that when the country has spoken and another woman or two or a dozen are having their health ruined as they scheme is another thing.

Can’t believe people are celebrating on social media. I think it’s very sad an innocent human at 12 weeks old or before is defencless in the womb. It’s way to broad for me.

Except that legislation hasn't been passed or anything yet and the unborn still have the protections afforded under the Protection of Life During Pregnancy Act 2013.

Oh absolutely. They will see it as every day they delay the implementation is another day of babies saved. The problem with fundamentalists is they don't care what anyone else thinks or wants. They think know what's best and they think God wants them to fight to their last breath to defend that position. There is still a long and dirty fight ahead.

Because women in Ireland are finally free to choose. That is a reason to celebrate.

Look: You still have a choice. You can choose to not have an abortion. No one's going to make you do it. No one's even going to suggest it. But you have that choice. It's all yours. Take it. Use it.

But now, ALL women have a choice. Meaning those who need an abortion can now get one. That's THEIR choice. Yay!

You were preaching about democracy so I'm simply asking for you opinion on a matter where a majority will is concerned. Do you believe there is a majority will in the country for abortion for any reason up until 12 weeks? Why do you keep stonewalling the question?

good if true, i thought it would be much closer. Thankfully most people seem more forward thinking.

Did I read somewhere John Waters said he would leave the country if it voted yes?

I'll buy the ticket for him, if he wants....Maybe set up a go fund me to get him a one way ticket to St Helena

If the offical result matches the poll, you might want to set a few up for some of the no side on here too going by some of their comments.

I hope the poll is accurate, but until I hear the official result I'm going to be wondering.

Not only them. Remember when we were asked to vote again on an EU matter in an unseemly quick time, because the first vote wasn't "acceptable"? Put it another way, if the No voters had got their way do you really think another repeat referendum wouldn't have come along down the line? Now that it looks like it's passed, do you think the Irish people will be asked to vote on the matter again? Though I do agree with you that there will be legal and political challenges afoot in the aftermath.

Amazed at how Irish celebs and high profile people voted yes. No compassion for the innocent life- no humanity. There all raving now on social media about the invetable yes victory.

Both RTE and IT polls suggest it was 4:1 in favour in Dublin

    in the face more like.

I'll never understand what they were thinking letting the likes of him or the John eejits anywhere near the media, social or otherwise.

I'm grateful they did though :D

The problem was that they didn't have anyone else. What the No side needed was a new Civic grouping to advocate that the proposal went too far but that hard cases needed to be legislated for. No was a motley crew of right wing Catholic fundamentalists whose views were well known and who's personalities are roundly disliked by normal people. No also needed the experience of a major political party to shepherd the campaign, the lack of experience with presenting an inclusive likable campaign was telling.

That said, it wouldn't have changed the result, just made it a little tighter.

RTE saying 69.4% in favour, largely the same as the Irish Times split

    Brilliant :)
