    Honestly, I’m in shock. Completely.

If this comes to pass the No side got it massively wrong in terms of their assumption on what people would swallow. Hard not to be triumphant given the cow poo and lies they spewed.

We had a walkout in a local church last sunday when the priest tried to bring this up during a communion mass. That would not have happened in '83. Be very interested in how the church reacts to this.

They went with the populous vote. Media whoors don’t want to rock the boat

Why do you think the no side lost and the gap between the yes and no appears to be so big?

    Bla bla bla.

No side lost from imploding and lies from the crap they put on posters.

So no one has been able to answer my question without dancing around it and repeatedly showing the results from today, my question being distinct from what was asked today. Anyone with the balls to give a straight yes or no answer to a straight question? So I'll ask once more, does anyone believe there is a majority will in the country for abortion for any reason up until 12 weeks?

With all due respect, you need to take a proper look at this issue. Fertilised eggs/embryos are not "people". They're just clumps of human DNA and a couple of cells.

Take a look at this video and set aside the emotional blackmail. Here's some real science.

On the day GDPR was introduced... data now has more protection in law than babies.

Yes, what a wonderful occasion, enjoy your celebrations folks... at least unlike previous ‘joyous’ events there won’t be much risk of a load of ‘celebration ride’ babies being born 9/10 months from now.

    Hiya Declan.

Hold on, it did happen in 1983. I remember it. Not many but it did happen.
And people did it at huge risk to their standing in the community especially business owners.

Fair play to all those who cast their votes today.
Now I hope the likes of the Iona institute,Cora Sherlock etc. are never given a public platform again.
Every word Cora Sherlock uttered in interviews was a nail in the coffin of the No campaign. What was even more damning was what she didn't say when pressed on important matters. All bluster and scare mongering but little or no facts to back it up.

Can’t believe people are celebrating on social media. I think it’s very sad an innocent human at 12 weeks old or before is defencless in the womb. It’s way to broad for me.

How many weeks is acceptable to you? Because 12 weeks is necessary to account for the fact that some women don’t discover that they’re pregnant until as late as 10 weeks. What do you expect society to do for a woman who is not only a victim of rape and/or incest but also is unlucky enough to only discover she’s pregnant at 10 weeks after conception? Shrug our shoulders and tell her “tough luck love, hopefully next time you discover your pregnancy sooner!”

How many people voted yes to a question they weren't asked?

I wonder if they will consider increasing the proposed 12 weeks to 16 or 20 now with such strong support at 12 weeks.

Why should they, the mandate is for 12 weeks and FG is still a conservative partyy. Most European countries have had a 10/12/14-week limit for decades and there doesn't seem to be much desire to extend that...

    Is that what you want?

I haven't researched enough to be sure but my gut says I'd be happiest with about 8 weeks.

I'm crying, I'm one of the women who travelled to England. Never again are we going to force our girls across the water. On a personal level I feel the country supports me and doesn't judge me. For that alone I will be forever grateful to everyone who voted yes.

My friend travelled to England in her teens. Almost twenty years ago now but she only told me this morning. She was bawling. For her and for every other Irish woman, I hope so much that the exit polls are correct.

    Yes: Of course.

The proposed legisltion is well known.

It's also similar to other countries. I do not see the issue.

Whats with all this Fianna Fáil will be wiped out in the next election?
Didn't Labour over whelming support the marriage referendum and promised it to the people and they were the one's who ended up in trouble!

Not trying to detract from your efforts but I honestly don't think many people changed their minds based on the campigners/canvasers etc. The polls consistently showed a yes vote during the campaign. This was a foregone conclusion.

God the canvasers on both sides were a pain in the arse :pac:

Mod-This is going to be the only post election thread. Discuss the result. Anyone discussing the pros and/or cons of abortion will be thread banned or worse.

This means we'll have women coming here from the UK for abortions.

How will Unionism react to this ?

Many women only learn about their pregnancy around that time, your first period can still appear in some form and only when the second one is missing you start suspecting something.

Interesting to see what will Northern Ireland do now. Eventually will be the only area of the two islands with a restrictive abortion regime.

I'm waiting for the first DUP person to say that a united ireland is impossible because we are too liberal and godless.

I couldnt watch these debates but you mean there was a fact-checker that whistled in like a ref or something and called them out on their bull****?
One I remember was mcquirk was on about the wrong twin aborted in australia sometime last year. They had the Aussy rose on as fact checker and she corrected him on that. It was in fact 2011
