The majority didn't repeal this for the hard cases, they repealed this because it should never have been in the constitution to start with
If you want to make it about the "hard cases" then every pregnancy where a woman has to consider is it right to be pregnant for whatever reason (mental, health or whatever) is an hard case because women do not lightly have an abortion

There is no all or nothing, as the no side have tried to make as such, if you want to have an abortion you can - if you don't then you don't

The fact the legislation was out before the referendum meant people knew they had to accept abortion for any reason up until 12 weeks if they wanted to repeal for the hard cases

    You don't have a point....

    and no.

    So whats next,

Euthanasia, Prostitution, then no idea what else really?

None of these need a constitutional amendment. Abortion is unique in that it was banned in the constitution but that’s because campaigners wanted to stop any future law. Worked for a generation.

The outcome was always going to be a YES. The result was never in doubt.

I was talking to someone from Together For Yes/Trinity SU and USI a few weeks ago when the first No posters went up and blanketed Dublin city and they honestly believed they didn't have a hope based on the budgets the No side had. But they persevered through great difficulty, a sea of verbal abuse and occasional physical attacks and it paid off.

I hope the No campaigners enjoy taking all those inaccurate posters down :D

What's the odds there will be a legal challenge within 2 weeks. The guys and gals in Iona only like democracy when it goes their way.

It's your assertion that the "hard cases" won this, not mine. Therefore it's up to you to prove it.

A majority of the electorate voted Yes today for a variety of reasons.

I'm asking your opinion. Why can you not give a straight answer? Do you believe there is a majority will in this country for abortion for any reason up until 12 weeks, seeing as you're the one pontificating about democracy in action?

Can’t believe people are celebrating on social media. I think it’s very sad an innocent human at 12 weeks old or before is defencless in the womb. It’s way to broad for me.

There is no legislation, there is proposed legislation and the people agreed that 12 weeks is acceptable - still to be argued through

Keep banging your drum - but you have lost

As for the future of the likes of IONA and Ronan Mullen and Mattie McGrath. Well now they will just bring the battle into the halls of Leinster House. Remember the referendum only gave the power to legislate on the issue to the dail. It didn't compel them on what to put in the final legislation. And dont forget the 6 university senators have successfully lobbied and blocked any attempt to implement the 7th amendment to the constitution that would have widened the vote to all graduates. If 6 irrelevant senators can do that for nearly 40 years what do you think 50 or 60 pro life senators and TDs can do.

No doubt there is still work ahead but if the final result is even close to the polls then there won't be a huge amount of TDs willing to go publicly against something with such strong support. A tighter Yes will be a different matter.

This vote is going to kill Fianna Fail. They stand for nothing now. FG will push ahead in the polls. Expect an election very soon - probably in September. Why wait for the budget? No need now. Guaranteed to be an election. FG will capitalise and their new buddies in SF.

Unlike the Gay Marriage referendum, this time can the country please avoid all the tedious clapping ourselves on the back for apparently being such a progressive country.

The thing is, what happens next?
There were many no voters who cleaved to all the major parties, FG,FF and SF. They now will feel totally disenfranchised. I know some SF diehards who were appalled at Mary Lou's staunch endorsement of a yes vote (and I'm no supporter of SF but she alone had the guts to have her photo on a yes poster).
So is there now room for a conservative, populist, party of some sort. Renua II?

There has been apparent room for such a party since the 1995 divorce referendum but their putative supporters have shown absolutely no interest in voting for one. Why should they start now?

Same could be said for you. As I said earlier a great day for abortion on demand advocates. A terrible day for the unborn. Pat yourself on the back my friend. You've just removed the only protection unborn children have.

No I haven't. Approximately 68% of the Irish electorate has who are intelligent and measured people.

You have to stop talking about "Abortion on demand". It's not like that and you are being disrespectful to women with that line.

Also, unborn children have lots of protections from loving parents who want them which is just what it's like in other countries.

You forget also that abortion has always been here, and just exported and you were happy with that for the last 35 years and offered no alternative.

Finally, the 8th was killing mothers ,like Savitta and how can you defend that?

How do we know the people deem it acceptable? Because if they wanted to repeal for the hard cases they must of also validated it?

People are celebrating that a fundamental right has been handed back to women - whats wrong with that?
