Can it be stated that many people who voted No despise the Catholic Church and the Iona institute in equal measure

Every election is usually reported by the exit polls, but it’s often days or weeks after the voting day that the counts are actually completed. The electoral college doesn’t formally vote in the president and Vice President until the Monday after 2nd Wednesday in December.

Ah come on while yes technically you are correct the president is not officially elected till the electoral college. That is just an exercise in tally up the votes you all ready know. The President and Vice President are known within hours of the vote. There us nothing wrong with the exit poll being told during the Late Late.

Personally I think the result while not in doubt will be closer then some think. The 12 weeks will come in (not in favour of that bit but hey democracy is great) but the no vote will show that the period is not to be changed in the years ahead

10 year old rape victims are few and far between.....do you even hear yourself. Oh its only a few? Ah grand so.

I was unable to respond to this at the time as the thread was closed immediately after. Suffice it to say its another huge lie from a Yes sider. I never ever said it was ok to have 10 year old rape victims. If you bothered to read my previous posts I continually said hard cases such as rape victims should have access to abortion.

Sad that a lie got so many thanks but I guess that's "modern Ireland" for you. A lot of people have only a passing regard for the truth.

I voted No. Conscience is clear. I voted on behalf of those unborn who have nothing to do with the Hard Cases and should from day one have been left out of this referendum.

I voted Yes for those children, for those mothers, for those father's, and to give families a chance to make their own choices.

I might not like their choice, or agree with their reasons for making that choice, but it should be their choice.

Well I was challenging the semantics of the claim. Moving on, it’s a little different in the case of the late late because RTÉ is state run television and it just looks mad funny not to run and schedule a special news broadcast rather than use it to plug their late night talk show.

Yes. Shortest time ever in a polling booth.

Polling station (Dublin) was worryingly deserted at 8.25pm.
Hopefully everyone’s gone for a pint after they voted.

Resisted the temptation to impersonate my aunt, dead 5 years, whose polling card arrived during the week. She’d be a hundred. A yes on her vote would have her spinning in her grave.

Then hopefully you voted yes since the constitution currently prohibits laws being enacted that would give rape victims access to abortions.

They can't, but I've seen a few 'independent' types hanging around Cork doing it today.

Not just the NO side either I was in Shannon today and there were people with yes signs and shirts at every roundabout out of the airport. Also in Enis

Generally allowed, all of these examples as long as they remain clear of polling stations.

Again I take it you didn't read back over my posts? If you had you'd see that I said if this referendum doesn't pass, there should be another to deal specifically with hard cases and exclude unborn children who have nothing whatsoever to do with hard cases. In fact todays referendum should have dealt with those cases. Now we are faced with the prospect of unrestricted abortion being brought in for unborn up to 12 weeks which includes the tiny minority of unfortunate hard cases and the over-whelming number of non hard cases.

That's all for this thread as its about how people voted. I will discuss it with you when the main thread re-opens if that's ok?

The Catholic Church, The Iona Institute, The Orange Order. They're the groups your views aline with if you've voted no. That's the reality.

Not reading through a bunch of posts in this issue no, there has been an absurd volume of posts on this subject.

The wrinkle is that not in 35 years and not even during this debate has anyone presented alternative referenda language that would do what you suggest. If this was really what the No side wanted or even people on the No side they should have presented language they felt would be better to replace the 8th rather than repeal it. As it is nobody seems convinced that legislating details and exceptions such as that in the constitution is a wise idea. I tend to agree. That’s why the 2nd Amendment in the US doesn’t say “except automatics, unless you have a permit, or explosives unless you have a permit for that, or...”

Edit: yes let’s continue in a bit

Never stood in as long a que as I did this evening for any election/referendum vote.

    My conscience also clear.

What time is the Irish Times exit poll due out I wonder? RTE's one is 11.30.

The KKK also voted for Trump but that doesn’t mean the ladies at my office that voted for Trump are white supremacists.

So what. Hitler like dogs I like dogs does that mean I align with Hitler and his thought. No it doesn't. Not does it it mean if someone voted no here (I voted yes) align with those above. Some of the yes crowd decry the NO campaign for there dishonesty and labelling yet are very quick to do the same. I voted yes to give people a choice however like no voters if I hear someone is pregnant I don't think hey loom a foetus I go yes a baby.

I know that but the result is called by the television networks and acceptance speeches are made, defeats conceded on the night due to exit polls.

    I voted yes this morning.

The desk where you get the voting card though, one of they guys had a copy of the bible, facing out towards voters... thought was a bit strange and possibly not allowed ? ...

Same as my one today, to be exact it was a copy of the New Testament, facing out directly in front of voters on the table. Granted it's standard practise, I don't recall if that was the same for previous refs and elections. What I don't get is why they couldn't have it on the side or wherever and just take it out if they doubted a voter's identity? Was the same on Whiddy Island, exact same copy according to the Broadsheet website (Population: 22; Turnout: 70%).

What is wrong with doing that?

    It's an important vote.

Every US Presidential election is ultimately decided by television exit polls.

You think the late late show with Ryan Tubridy is the appropriate forum?

Fair enough if you do but I think that's a very trite setting for something so serious.

    It's not an election.

Voted yes - fair amount of people in and out of the polling station (considering it only takes a minute to cast the vote)
Predicting 65/35 to the yes, if not better for the yes side from just talking to people.
Tiny percent in work voting no and the youth of the country are the ones that are gonna swing this to a big Yes win

Two yes votes from us. I believe all of our immediate family voted yes too.
