Fair play to Piutau for having the balls to do that. Sure he has nothing to lose regarding Ulster or the IRFU but he will probably get a bit of grief now.

According to someone on UAFC the squad had a players only end of season do and Jackson and Olding were at it. Now to be fair I usually take a lot of stuff on UAFC with a pinch of salt but I hope it's true.

That's excellent news. There was talk he was going back to England and that would have been awful. Great prospect, always thought he had a future ever since I saw him with the U20s.

Ulster really showed up this past few weeks. Fair play to them. Encouraging stuff and some good young talent coming through.

He was in the perfect position to negotiate a very good contract so I'd imagine it was his agent that put out the word that he was heading elsewhere. Great bit of business for all involved.
Get yourselves a journeyman 10 to back him up now and things are looking better already.

Is it just me or do him and Stockdale look like they could easily be brothers?

Did they all go on to Ollie's Night Club afterwards?

I suspect that some of the female patrons of Ollies might have.

Wow, that's an interesting one. He's a great coach, has won every competition available to him at Wigan, and they're currently 2nd in their table.

What might interest Ulster fans is that the league season ends in mid-October. So depending on the transition period, you might get your man around the start of the union season.

Elton Jantjes? Not really sure he's the answer. Tends to be lead rather than leads, and a bit flaky. I suppose he's South African though, which often seems to be an important requirement for an Ulster contract. Ulster could do worse than sign someone like Hayden Parker, who's having a great season for the Sunwolves.

Yeah I mentioned hayden a few months back on this thread, he'd be an excellent signing. Though I think it's the JJ influence that brought him to Japan and which would probably keep him there.

He's still young at 27 and doesn't actually have that many miles on the clock due to some serious recoup time for shoulder and knee injuries (he's missed more than 2 full seasons)
He's more of a reliable basic 10 than, say, Janties who can be amazing or very poor.. Depending on the day.

I think ulster should be searching for someone like peter grant though. He's more of the older experienced journeyman and at 33 isn't on the scrap heap just yet.

Don't think we've mentioned this and it's easy to forget cos Cooney has been amazing...
We are fecked if he is called up to Ireland or gets injured.
Any prospects beyond Shanananahan and Stewart? What happened to Cairns? (I think it was Cairns - turned up and didn't get on the bus?)

Indo running that the IRFU are potentially going to block that.

Do we have a defib on boards. Think the Ulster fans may need one if IRFU block overseas signing

Indo speculating that they might block it because Nucifora wants Carbery to move. So the defib can go back in the cupboard for now. If Carbery won't move (which seems to be the case) then I can't see why the IRFU would throw a spanner in the works. So long as McPhillips keeps getting good game time.

Jantjies was never an option. No Irish province will be signing an NIQ 10 in a World Cup season after Ireland lost their 2nd choice 10

If Ulster can't get another Irish qualified ten, they have to be allowed sign someone. They can't go through a season with just McPhillips and AN Other from the academy. It's not as though there aren't enough IQ tens around the other provinces.

Well if the IQ options won't move to Ulster then what do the IRFU do? Leave them with one out half with 9 starts under his belt?

Sorry, I meant as a starter, should have been clearer. There'll be someone else there for sure, but not an international. And I'd say it'll most likely be someone IQ, the IRFU guys can be extremely persuasive.

Not sure what to make of it all to be honest! You’d think IRFU would be wanting to help not restrict us after the turmoil of this season. Seriously they gotta see another season like this and it will financially effect them?

There was an article (BBC?) Saying Ben Volavoka blocked too?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,538 ✭✭✭launish116

So are we take from all this until Carberry makes up his mind we're in limbo? and even then once he does we'll have potential signings blocked.

Don't take anything from it. It's media rumours with absolutely nothing concrete behind it, preying on a group of fans who are ready to believe them. Just like the old Stephen Moore rumours to wind up Munster fans.

I'm not sure about that, according to the French media Racing are interested in him so it'd take a hefty sum to compete with that

More a case look we're trying? last day of season ticket sales?
Not sure Jantjies is what we need, but beggar's cant be choosers! Always get the feeling Ulster prefer a marque name for seats on bums rather than performance on pitch.
Would take several Ludik type players to strengthen the squad over one Jantjies right now.

Could be anything. Could be purely media speculation. Could be Ulster talking to anyone and everyone so that as other pieces slide into place they have options. Could be a mixture of both. They're not exactly on great terms with the media at the moment.

I'd doubt it's a play for season tickets though. Doesn't seem likely to me.
