At the risk of being overly speculative, it's more likely that they had a previous connection and she tried to walk away from it.

Women are at the highest risk of being murdered shortly before or after breaking up with an abusive partner.

And his wife gave birth to a child less than a year ago, so their relationship may have been under strain that led him to engage with another woman.

Risk of being overly speculative?! Bit of an understatement there. There has been nothing to suggest they even knew each other.

Irish Times are reporting that he was up before the courts next month on serious drink driving charges, and had prior convictions for cannabis and being abusive in a public place. He was on bail for the drink driving charges

Apart from the fact that they lived and worked in relatively close proximity, that she was abducted a couple of minutes from her home and that a guy with absolutely no previous convictions or Garda issues abducted her in broad daylight?

The odds here are not in favour of "random abduction by a man who had lost his mind".

I'm not saying it's definite, but far more likely that they did know eachother.

    Edit:
I stand corrected on the "no previous" bit, but certainly nothing major there. He had never been done for assault or other serious crimes.

Stopped reading after that after their handling of reporting yesterday

The Gardai don't seem to think they knew each other, that it was an opportunistic 'grab',and that it was sexually motivated.

His computer history will show where his preferences lay anyway most likely.

I'm living in a small town over 30 years and there's plenty I've never even uttered a word to. Possible he was watching her without her even knowing him. Unless you know more than you're saying?

I wonder if he got triggered by Ana Kriegel reports... then saw a petite girl on her own.

You are possibly right but their connection could be an innocent one. People will try find a reason why he targeted her. She's lost her life and possibly suffered sexual violence, I think speculation that she was involved romantically with him is a bit of an insult to the victim and her family.

Mountjoy is full of murderers who weren't murderers until they murdered someone.

Yes his viewing history could tell us a lot the same with the scum that killed poor Ana in Lucan at this time last week.

I think the issue is you're suggesting they had some sort of romantic or sexual relationship and there is nothing to suggest this at all. It's disrespectful (at the very least) to suggest this about a girl who's just lost her life without having any evidence to back it up.

As you corrected yourself that he has no convictions, as we now know that is untrue. As we learn more about this guy we'll probably have some better insight into his motives.

Jumping to the conclusion of an affair is unfair, more information will come out about this guy in the coming days maybe we should hold off on suggesting something like that until there's more information to go on.

They could possibly have some connection we're not aware of but talking about some sort of relationship in that sense without anything to suggest it just doesn't seem right.

How do you know that he has no previous convictions and was not known to the Gardai???

His poor family too. Surely better off he's dead, maybe he had the knife to do himself in, the police helped him out there in the end

Just got sent a video of him picking up the Nissan from a garage last year. So strange to watch after what unfolded.

Mod-Seeing as a body has been found I've unstuck the thread. Also thread title will remain till confirmation from the Gardai. Lets hold on to the shred of hope.

Am I the only one pissed off at all the cars who rang into the Gardai to report seeing a woman in distress being driven down the motorway but never thought about following the car? I am not looking for heroics here but honestly is it too much to ask for the person to follow behind the car while on the phone to the guards??? A life could have been saved.

Too many people in this country never want to be inconvenienced. And following the car would only be that, an inconvenience. If he saw you following you could turn off the road or stop following him if your that much of a coward but from the reports not one car even bothered following him and carried on with their route.

How many rang in ? I only read about one ?
And if I am totally honest if I had kids in my car or he was driving at speed there is no way I would speed down the N 11 after him .

I agree but only for the women who saw the kidnap happen. I imagine not choosing to do so will haunt her for the rest of her life.

For the others it's easy to say this in hindsight with the knowledge of what happened but can you really expect people to follow every car where a person looks like they are upset, distressed or crying?

Particularly if you were going the other way or he suddenly turned off the road, which may have been the case here.

Easy to say that now with the benefit of hindsight. Abductions are extremely rare in Ireland and to come across one in progress is rarer still. The people that called the gardai did the right thing

Follow them and then what? Be the hero? Find out it was someone upset/distressed for an innocent reason?

This case makes me think of that woman Esra Uyrun who is still missing to this day, her car found in Bray 6/7 years ago, makes you wonder could this guy could be responsible?.. what a senseless act, I feel so bad for Jastines family.

I mean is this even up for debate? She was banging on the rear window screaming. I would follow the car while staying on the phone without even a second of thought. Why the hell wouldnt you? Someone's life is in danger

There are so many ifs, buts and hindsight. Whilst I hate this element of assessing the case such as the Garda bashing etc and some of the posters on here are shocking with diversion of blame, I do empathise with your emotions on this one. But it is a pointless exercise right now.
And I definitely don't blame the party for not following them.

    But i WISH they had.

Where did you hear that? The public weren't exposed to that level of information.
