Adaptive LED headlights are standard on the G30 afaik with laser LED headlights a very expensive option.

Just regular led headlights as standard.
Adaptive led an option by themselves or as part of visibility pack. The day running lights are different too, as per wailin’s picture.I have them on mine and they are brilliant. Dancing around cars and people. Significantly better than the regular leds I had with high beam assist on my 3 series.

The standard adaptive headlights are an €800 extra bazz, you have to specify them. The LED lights "with matrix function" are a €1800 extra but with the visibility pack you get them with high beam assist for €2k. A lot of the UK cars in Quinns have them and they do look very nice in fairness, but savage money.

Edit: Carsfan got there first ;)

Let me know what they are offering on the 640d out of interest.

I had a deal done on a 2015 cls Mercedes pending service history being produced. Independent dealer promised a full print out from Mercedes.
When I rang Mercedes, car had never seen a Mercedes dealer!!

Unusual Mick for that caliber of car not to have dealer history. What are you trading on it?

    Not trading.

How long will the gaudy tablet on the dash stick around, I really don't like it. The new Audi A6 set up looks lightyears ahead of it. E class looks good as well.

Audi interior looks like an epileptics nightmare to me in fairness. Merc interior is class leading imo. Nothing compares to them at the moment.

Both merc and Audi look great but all the reviews say the BMW system is still the best to use. The Audi system is by all accounts a step backward in its operations and the merc interior without the big nav display and with regular dials is nothing special although I think the larger nav screen is now standard.
They are unveiling the latest i drive update with the new x5 and x7 and I’m sure it will be on the new 3 too.

Mark are you looking for a price to trade your 640 for that 520 potentially?
    If so what’s your estimate?

If it’s a really good day I’d say €25,000. The 5 is fairly ok priced. I know people say it a lot but my car needs nothing to be retailed, it’s just been fully serviced, two rears are as good as new, it’s very clean and has 60,000 miles. There’s a good few 2012 640s with similar miles on Carzone for €29,000 now - even in dealers. It’s starting to look like I’ll have to put some of my savings down to cleanly get out of the car and I’m not really prepared to do that. So I dunno! Was told I’d be called back yesterday too which I wasn’t so that carry on usually makes me move on. A 30 second call to say I haven’t had time to get those figures is all it takes but the normal days have returned.

I was referring to the ambient lighting in the Audi. It's a nice touch nowadays having changeable interior lighting, but the Audi looked a bit over the top in that video! The BMW i drive is well ahead of the pack alright.

Lads what do you think of the M aerodynamic pack that can be fitted to the G30? Completely transforms the looks for me...looks bloody gorgeous :) Here's a 520d in Quinns with it:

Unfortunately even if your car needs very little to turn around for retail it just means more margin for the BMW dealer. Have you priced what it would cost to import a similar 640d from the UK? That is more around the figure a BMW dealer will give you for it based on my experience recently. As for call backs, I'm afraid your wasting your time with a lot of them and showing up in person is probably the best way to go even though the dealer can be at the other side of the country.

Worth talking to these guys also about this G30:
    https://www.carsireland.ie/car-dealers/county/dublin/stuarts-garages/detail.php?ad_id=1880703&r=s.php%3Fpp%3D50%26g%3D0

I bought my 530d off them recently and found them decent to deal with, you won't get a 2 year BMW warranty from them but a 2017 520d will have the bones of 2 years left on the original warranty anyway. PM me if you want more specifics.

It looks well and subtle on the darker colours but on the lighter colours I'm not gone on it because it seems to come in gloss black only. I seen a white G30 530e with it recently and the gloss black bits looked a bit felt imo.

71000 to 48000 in a year, that's a great deal for whoever picks it up.
If 71000 is a correct figure that is!

Went to the dealer in person yesterday the call back was just for a cost to change price etc

Last month when I last checked it was around €27,000 all in for a similar decent 640 from the UK not including ferries etc

Cheers for the heads up about Stuarts, that particular car is an X-Drive though, I really fancy the blue in the G30 with oyster. I’ll keep an eye on their stuff from now on. There’s a similar one with the 20s in BMW Wexford, it’s a bit dearer, has more miles and not sure if it has HK system, I was going to drive down yesterday but with the less travelled cheaper one I went to see being only down the road, I chose that one. Plus as you mentioned the BMW warranty will be there anyway.

All this said, I still turn and look at that 640 every time I park it so I’m quite happy to keep it too.

Very true bazz, would not even consider it on a white or lighter coloured car.

To be honest Mark I think you'd regret moving from 6 pot to 4 once you get used to the tech of the G30. Coming up 3 yrs for a 640d GC might be a better option? All important rear doors for the little ones. This here in med blue as well :)

What's the thoughts on the 530i? Only a 4 pot 2 litre, but decent performance.

    media?id=7d3d2f1f87894f0ea7984fd745787ef7&width=720&height=540&paddingColour=e8e8e3

Nap this with £1500 off, is €35,100, plus €9,800 VRT is €44,900.

It's the B48 engine which is a tweaked version of the same 2 litre found in the 330e and 530e. They have 180bhp (250 when combined with electric) while the 530i has 250bhp.

Carsfan had the 330e so would have good info on that engine and it's performance. Definitely a good option if looking to move away from diesel. 540i would be a beast of a yoke but obviously at a much higher cost.

Do BMW sell any ‘40i’s in this country? Seem to be relatively popular in the U.K. but definitely not here. I doubt they sell any non hybrid petrol cars here at all that don’t have an “M” badge...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,661 ✭✭✭Voodoomelon

There's a pile of 540s on Autotrader in the UK with awful looking exteriors, bizarre.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,518 ✭✭✭MarkN

Keane’s have/had a brand new 540i with POA on the ad.

I’d deffo be up for anything petrol, ideal world I’d have a 530e so maybe that’s what I should aim for. I hate the way things are going with the likes of 2.0 4 cylinders going into the likes of a 530i :(

Murphy & Gunn had a 440i GC for sale late last year, it was a BMW UK car though. There is a 530i G30 knocking around Limerick alright.

They originally had that car up for €60k, they wouldn't take my €52k for it and about 4 months later it was going for €47k before the add was gone so presumably sold for around that. I really wanted that car at the time.

Yeah Frank Keane had a 181 540i M Sport in med blue for 82k for awhile. Then it dropped to 78k and ad taken down, presumably sold. Nice motor with a good spec too.

I wonder did they actually sell these cars here?

Sales have fallen in the UK especially with diesels, so I wonder are BMW UK sending a few less common but nearly new/ex management cars over here to certain dealers and if they don't sell for a minimum figure here they get sent to or bought back by BMW UK.

You would imagine a dealer bringing in a 440i/540i from the UK would have a buyer lined up in advance given the tiny market they have here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,447 ✭✭✭Wailin

Possibly bazz. Yet the M5 would have an even smaller market I would think and Quinns had 3 181 in stock so they may be taking the risk themselves.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,825 ✭✭✭carsfan2

I assumed the 540i in keanes was a Bmw Ireland car they got in, or an upper management car of their own. There is a market especially on Dublin for nice machinery like that.
That said, when I bought recently, the four Bmw dealers I visited all said the 520d is still very much where it’s at and will continue to be for the next few years.
They reckon the hybrid will increase a bit but they still don’t expect any massive changes for at least five years according to one guy I spoke to. The government have also said they have no plans to increase the price of diesel.
In my case, a 530d with more miles and slightly less spec was 8k more expensive. I asked whether I would get that 8k back in 2/3 years as if so I might have gone for it but they reckoned the 8k premium would be 1/2k come trade in.
The M5 market in Ireland is another level altogether and a dealer like Colm Quinn or Frank Keane will find buyers for these cars no problem. The boom is back( at least for some)!

I always thought that the *40i would be a popular model here given that the 335i was quite popular in 2006/2007. Given that you're getting that kind of performance for half the motor tax cost as it used be (€1,494 vs €750).

There was an Estoril blue 440i on carzone ages ago which didn't last long before being sold.

Back in 06/07 cheap tax & low mpg weren't a priority for many and there was very few high powered cars that were anyway cheap to tax.

It's now almost seen as ludicrous to drive a car that likes it's fuel & is over a few hundred to tax.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,825 ✭✭✭carsfan2

Have they come back with any figures to you on the 520 Mark?
    I’m guessing not.
I see bill griffin motors advertising a 171 new model 530d with 18000 miles for 47900 euro, seriously undercutting other dealers.
Not sure that garage has a great reputation though.

You do have to wonder what sort of history does it have for a car like that to be priced so low.

Bill Griffin seems stunningly cheap in general. I don't know about the quality of the cars but on something like a 5 series, from his ads, you would generally get a 15 plate off him for same money as a 13 plate from a dealer.
Something has to give id imagine. By all accounts, you wouldn't get the Rolls Royce of customer service but he seems to be turn over a huge number of cars going by his ads changing all the time so I don't know.
