Delighted to hear. The lads are more than entitled to get on with their lives and work again. Fair play to Sale for ignoring the Twitter noise, but on a business level it makes sense - Jackson was on the way to becoming one of the best 10's in the world imo before he was stepped down, and he still could give a good 10 more years' service to the game

Taking the reduced salary makes sense, it gives them an opportunity to get back into the game with a very decent side, and be based in a big City. Had the trial finished in late 2017 I imagine more clubs would have been in.

I thought any deal might be kept on the hush until later in the summer but announcing it now makes sense I feel - let the easily offended Twitter mob blow off their steam now and by the time Jackson plays his first competitive game (4 months away at least), it'll be well blown over

AJ was a good friend/housemate of McIlroy in the US

There's loads about it that makes sense for them.

Sale are a good team. More importantly they're in a non-rugby city so most people around will have no idea about who they are. It's a good place for them to get out of the spotlight. It's up to them now to rehabilitate their image if they want to return. There's certainly people there they should be steering well clear of, which is the downside, but all in all it's a good move for them.

Great move for Sale as well, they're turning their disadvantage (being in a non-rugby area with a pretty small following and reputation) into an advantage which allows them to sign guys whose reputation would be majorly problematic elsewhere. May not be the easiest team to like, especially if its JOC and Folau on the wings, but they don't really need to care.

They're 7th in the league, if they finish there and Gloucester win the Challenge Cup they would make Champions Cup I assume?

I'm sure there'd be "protests" but given the paltry turn out at Kingspan for the one before the Ospreys game (far easier make noise on twitter eh?), I use the term "protest" very loosely

Would they be bottom seeds with Ulster based on league ranking? Or is that how it works?

Henderson's injury appears not to be as serious as first feared according to the BBC. Still a big doubt for any European play off on the 18th though.

I just read that Henderson is doubtful for the summer tour. He did look in a lot of discomfort when he left the field. Hope he recovers quickly and gets to Oz.

A European Cup playoff without Henderson, Deysel, Rea etc. is very worrying.

They were missing those guys against Glasgow and won. But no doubt it will be tough.

It's over 2 weeks away so maybe Rea will be back.

Ye but look how we did against Ospreys the previous week. We will have literally no ball carrying ability and Ospreys have proven they can defend! We camped for a hole half with little to no penetration.

One tweeter has claimed that Jackson has been spotted on a flight to Manchester. The same guy then wishes for the plane to crash.

At this stage I'd seriously consider forcing people to get some kind of license before being allowed to use social media...

    Lord Kilclooney at it again?

Saw that reply alright. I mean, really, how unhinged are some people? There are also people still freely calling them rapists online

Twitter really is an awful place. If I had teenagers I'd really worry for them if they were on it

I'm not sure what can be done about Twitter abuse but it only seems to be getting worse. Look at the vitriol the football referee Michael oliver's wife received recently too.

It's giving unhinged nutjobs a voice and a platform to spread crazy nonsense, all to an audience which will include impressionable young people. Very unnerving

    Sorry for OT rant

Twitter I see a cesspit for idiots in every form they appear. Jackson can't take comfort from being infinitely more successful at what he does than any of those losers. It has to be tiring having so much anger and ignorance built up

I always saw twitter as a platform for celebrities to communicate with fans. The fact these people think anyone cares what's on their mind or that they can abuse/troll whoever it might be is more than a bit sad

It’s the mob, easy to join and anonymous. You only had to read the thread here to see it and at least in the main the people there were trying to argue. I find it odd that of all the terrible things happening in the world the decided that the thing to go after was a couple of rugby players who were dicks. Even the other 2 lads were forgotten because they weren’t ‘celebs’ so nobody cared about them.

The whinging about twitter is a bit sad too. :)

You have to go looking for this stuff. It's not as though it's shoved in your face. I use it to keep up with scores in matches and the few rugby clubs I follow in the UBL. Also a couple of players and other sports I'm involved in. And Ryan Reynolds. Everyone should follow Ryan Reynolds. :D

The platform is designed to wind people up.

Just like someone here said that #ByeByePaddy was trending the day he got sacked. It wasn't, there were next to no tweets with it. But it was related to something that person was interested in so the algorithm showed it, then they assumed it was popular when it wasn't and got angry. And this happens constantly.

I told this story in this thread on this same topic, but the same thing as above happened when one guy, who didn't really know what he was referring to, tweeted #RIPCharlesManson and the platform was swarmed with people saying what a ridiculous thing it was to tweet and how outrageous it was. Then it just made the whole thing look far more popular than it was, but it was trending so people assumed it was a widely held opinion. They're all correct that it's a silly thing to tweet, but the response far, far outweighed the original tweet which no one would ever have noticed normally. The whole thing is fuelled by clickbait sites in whose interest it is to make both sides look big and scary to each other and push people to the extremes.

Just worry about yourself. There's people who were saying frankly disgraceful stuff on both sides on twitter or fan forums or anywhere else. All you can control is who you choose to interact with, thankfully the people on here aren't remotely as dreadful.

Sale have announced there is "no substance" to reports they are interested in signing former Ulster players Paddy Jackson and Stuart Olding.

That's an interesting turnaround given it was so widely reported.

I am quietly confident that these teams are extremely interested in signing the lads and leak the stories to test public reaction.

apparently sale have history in denying a signing only to sign the player shortly afterward

Similar to players linking themselves to other clubs prior to contracts being re-signed?
Just now its on the other foot, Sale have all the power and can basically get a world class outhalf for buttons.
Jackson's desperate for a contact and now with Sale denying any interest, back to renegotiating.

They did that last year with the S.A. scrum half and James O'Connor.

I see they haven't been successful in their action against the BBC either and now must pay £20k towards the broadcaster's legal fees.

Annus horribilis as Queen Lizzy once said.

Some radio reportage that there was immediate agitation from the Supporters as soon as the rumous began circulating. Not for the first time.

Those who believe that being found not guilty of something should not deny someone a livlihood will not like it, but these boys are toxic.

Jeez so sale sharks kill off the rumours as well. Presumably afraid of the PR fallout. PJ and SO are going to have to go Southern Hemisphere at this stage.
