Sure maybe Bryn can double job as director of rugby/interim coach :D. Very machiavellian, it's always operations guys.

How long are we giving him before we sharpen the pitchforks?

    A day? A week? A month?

6 1/2 weeks is the word on UAFC. But that's because the honeymoon period hasn't even started yet.... :D

UAFC wanted him sacked as Ulster coach while he was still with Connacht

    At least FODMcF isn't catchy.

I've gone ahead and ordered a shipment of pitchforks to arrive into Larne on 2nd January, give me a call if you fancy some profiteering

Don’t know to laugh or cry! Another coach bedding in mid season potentially! Can’t say I know much about him.

To be honest we are too focused on ousting Logan.  McF gets a reprieve until Logan is gone....

Anyone got a clue about the other 2 naysayers? (using a phone to upload this and think formatting has gone weird)

Edit: just seen discussion in Leinster thread.

    Other 2?

One of them is Joe surely?

Not sure who the other person is. Joey' s agent maybe?

To be honest I wouldn't want him forced into a move he doesn't want to make. By all means ask the question, but it's a big big question. If he wants to stay at Leinster then he should. It's not fair on him, Leinster or indeed Ulster if he is forces into a decision he doesn't want to make.

Also he might make the move. He is still very young and if you are still making your way in pro rugby and Joe Schmidt comes along and asks you to do something it would be bloody hard to say no.

I don't really want him if he has to be pretty much forced or talked into it. It's not fair on him or us.

Similar to the TV show Community, I vote that we turn Ulster into a synonym for messing something up. Because they've really Ulster'd the fúck out of these new coach and replacement 10 stories.

Superbly well run club, no question that Logan and Cunningham are the men to fix all our woes...

I really Ulster'd by double posting.

If Carberry leaves Leinster for Ulster, what does that say to McPhillips? He's coming along very well and he has a high ceiling. If McPhillips does leave then Ulster still need another 10.

    Well this is the thing.

McPhillips is doing well. It's true we lacked a bit of direction in the last 5 minutes on Saturday, but in fairness I'm not sure Joey (for all his talents) would be any better in that scenario, plus in a normal game situation we'd have been able to kick one of those penalties at the end to win the match and McPhillips would have played a huge role in winning in Thomond Pk. I think he's a very good player and I think this is being overlooked at the minute.

The presence of McPhillips also makes it much more likely that Carbery would be a one year deal and then he would go back to Leinster.

It's also of little use to Ulster Rugby. First of all, he looks pretty under cooked at 10 a lot of the time and while it's clear he has talent in abundance I doubt if he will maximise it at Ravenspan under such forced circumstances. I feel sorry for his position given the fact that he clearly stated that he is happy where he is. Why wouldn't he be?

If the plan allegedly was to benefit Carbery AND Ulster then that would be best served by Joey staying at the RDS under Sexton rather than what would be his lot in Belfast. Byrne is a far more rounded player and would actually be a great acquisition here. I also understand that he is content where he is. Such a series of moves sounds great in theory but if the players don't fully buy in to it how good would it be for them? Not so great.

Given the actions of the IRFU in removing Jackson they do have considerable responsibility in making up for their choice. I'm not exactly sure what they can do if no quality 10 is available. I think if none is possible - and Carbery certainly isn't in that category - than Ulster will simply have to make do with their own young players. Develop them. McPhillips, Curtis, Lowry. Fox etc deserve their opportunities.

Even if Joey was daft enough to take on the challenge and actually made good, as soon as Sexton retires he'll be off and Ulster will be still at square one unless Jackson is allowed back...which he should be.

I think Joey will suffer behind the Ulster pack. In theory it's a great idea getting him game time and being with Cooney from an Irish perspective, but I think throwing him into the environment up in Ulster could end up being disastrous.

Couldn't agree more! let McPhilips play on and learn his trade.

Most signings have to be talked into it. Nothing new about that.

Theres being talked into it and having your arm twisted.
Why should we put McPhilips experience on the back foot. We need guidance/tutor type player not another player just a little further down the road.

There is a difference between those things.

But we don't know if either of them are happening so I'm not sure why people would be going out of their way into getting wound up about either of them. Could be Carbery is interested in the rugby side of things but trying to get the most out of the IRFU that he can.

There is a few things stick out or wind me up at the situation.
When we asked for help for long term injuries it was refused. But now it suits the IRFU they'll happily try and force players here to fill gaps. But as you say we don't know the full circumstance or behind the scenes, could be an agent playing hard ball.
There is also no doubt Carbery is a good player. But I'd personally have McPhilips continue at 10, but happily invite Carbery to Ulster at 15. But we know that won't happen. Reminds me of Payne, our best 15 and Ulster being directed to play him at 13.

McPhil at 10 Carbs at 15. Problem solved ...

Seriously though Carbery would allow time for Mcphillips’ development as he will be gone with Ireland a lot. Doesn’t solve the problem that Carbery ain’t a great 10 though.

You think Ulster were forced to do something they didn't want to? There was a joint statement from both teams, so Ulster are just as much to blame here. If Ulster didn't want Jackson to leave, they would have said no. And sure if they didn't want it to happen, they would have fought a bit and someone who was there would have seen it and spoken up. IRFU have nothing to answer for here.

Logan? Houdini. He;s a useless tool. He hid from any responsibility and simply parroted the IRFU line. Don't kid yourself that Ulster had a choice.

It's common knowledge at this stage that the Ulster board voted 10:2 to keep them. Just because Logan fell over doesn't mean the club wanted them gone.
