It’s Cheika, he’s bored with the basket case that is Australian rugby and wants a new challenge.

"New Zealand women's coach Glenn Moore has been linked with the head coach vacancy at Ulster."
"Former Northampton Saints director of rugby Jim Mallinder is believed to be another possibility for the position."

Preying there old rumours only surfacing now on BBC. Don't really match Bryn's latest comments.

Not in the slightest. Be seriously fuming if big money was spent on him. We need a loose head and 2nd and couldn't of been more evident than yesterday. I think McPhilips is doing a great job and just need a tutor/2nd to support.

I was only poking a bit of fun at the idea of a team ethos being an actual thing when it's clearly not.

Ulster should avoid Cipriani because he's a bit rubbish.

Matt O'Connor should shortly be looking for a new job (unless Leicester can't afford to sack him!) He be ideal for Ulster, especially since, having failed in his past two jobs the laws of statistics dictate that he's bound to come lucky third time round!

Not sure about that, he lost the dressing room in Leinster and the players have been quite vocal about him not bringing through youth players.

Pretty much the opposite of what Ulster should be looking at right now.

I just don't see them going with a guy like Farrell, Easterby, etc., i.e., a very good coach, but untested as a head coach. Notwithstanding the potential for upside, it really isn't what Ulster need right now.

If they've secured someone like Richards, Lancaster or McCall, Ulster could soon become a very serious outfit.

Edit - just remember Easterby was with Scarlets as HC before Ireland.

In all the coach talk, it seems to have been missed that Cunningham confirmed that IRFU are indeed in discussions with Leinster about Carbery or Byrne.

But Gibbes said... And sure it was only the confirmation bias of us Leinster fans...

    That's an interesting one!

Although seems like any coach with any association with Ireland or any reputation at all has been named at this stage.

There's a lot of very high ranking names being thrown around here. Ulster fans might want a bit of perspective here and realise that last time Leinster and Munster went on the market for a head coach (both probably more desirable jobs) they had similar expectations and both ended up with two ex club forwards.

Nigel Carolan is someone I'd love to see step up to senior management level.

Coached the Ireland U20's when they reached the World Championship final. His teams play excellent attacking rugby and he's a very astute judge of young talent. He tipped Ringrose to go to the top very early on. Might seem like an obvious statement to make now but back then nobody knew how good he would turn out. Carolan did.

Buer and I were burned once before on Carolan becoming a head coach...

The media are just scrambling to find everyone and anyone who could possibly fit. Ulster been surprisingly tight lipped on this one, not even a sniff of a name from the in the knows on UAFC which is really unusual.

Tana Umaga was shortlisted for the Munster job with Foley.

A big name player who had very limited coaching experience back then.

The Blues have been struggling under Umaga. They have finished 14th and 9th in his two seasons as head coach.

Maybe he's not fully to blame as the Blues have been a basket case of a club for the last 10 years. He's not responsible for the mess they're in but neither has he managed to turn them around. Munster were better off with Foley than Umaga even though Foley wasn't a great head coach either.

With Ulster not guaranteed CC rugby next year I doubt if the budget allows a big outside coach to come in.
Lancaster seems likely and they haven't disclosed it perhaps because they don't want to destabilise Leinster's end of season trophy hunt. It would also explain the lack of leaks.

Moving Lancaster up there may also entice some of Leinster's fringe players up there. So it could be part of a wider strategy. In fairness if Lancaster wanted it I'd be surprised if the irfu would turn him down. He seems to have fitted in very well at Leinster and is not the type to ruffle any feathers. He also has a history of bringing through younger talent.

Ospreys have also gone with Allen Clarke presumably knowing they may not have CC rugby either next season.

9 years coaching experience between Toulon, Counties Manukau and NZ U20s). He got Blues job in 2016.

Pat Lam was sacked by the Blues, so I wouldn't blame Umaga for their problems.

He had absolutely no head coaching experience back when he was linked to Munster.

I think he'd do well up here, but he's not been linked to Ulster so no idea why he's being discussed.

Getting a top class coach would be more important if there wasn't CC rugby next year to make sure they had it the year after.

Ulster could do well in the secondary competition which would be a great confidence builder for them.

He was the head coach at Toulon, when they had just been promoted and had a basket case of a squad. He then reverted to being a player under Philippe Saint-Andre.

It isn't just Ulster fans speculating and I doubt if any actual Ulster fans hold out any real expectation of a 'good' appointment given the recent history of duds. As for ex-players, Jeremy Davidson is leaving Bordeaux. I have no idea if he is any good or not but he is at the end of the first year of a 3 year deal yet is being ousted for Poux it seems. Not a great sign. So long as we don't get Willie Anderson, Bradley or some failed waster from Oz who is a mate of Nuciforatu.:D
